How Smitty Killed Osama bin Laden

By now, you’ve seen the headlines at Memeorandum:

Osama bin Laden Killed by U.S. Strike

Bin Laden Is Dead, Obama Says

Sources: Al-Qaida head bin Laden dead

BREAKING: BIN LADEN DEAD

Osama Bin Ladin Loses Popularity
and 30cc of Brain and Skull But
Mostly 30cc of Brain and Skull

Everyone was suspicious last year when Admiral Smith got his orders to deploy to Afghanistan. Why was this middle-aged naval reserve officer from Virginia being sent halfway around the world?

The cover story that he would be providing IT services for troops based in Kandahar and Bagram was plausible.

But of course, it would be. Nudge, nudge.

However, those of us who know Smitty to be a natural-born killer were deeply suspicious. When the United States Navy activates the fearless leader of the top-secret REMF Stealth Ninja team, it’s serious business.

I’ve noticed that some people are already beginning to argue that President Obama seems a little too eager to claim that he, personally, deserves credits for Bin Laden’s death. Others are saying that certain facts — including the report that interrogations at Gitmo delivered the key intelligence necessary for the raid in Pakistan — show that President Bush deserves more credit. But we don’t need that kind of partisan finger-pointing, when it is so clear who really got the job done: Smitty.

While the Admiral of the Afghan Seas has put up an “obligatory” post dutifully repeating the official version of Bin Laden’s death, I think our readers know that the real story must have been a lot more dramatic.

Perhaps readers can suggest some details in the comments. Meanwhile, I offer this tasty headline:

OSAMA BIN LADEN: FOOD FOR FISH

Here’s the scene of the cadets celebrating at Smitty’s alma mater:

And given that it was the Navy that got the bad guy, here’s some appropriate music.

UPDATE: Great minds think alike, says Bob Belvedere:

Interesting coincidence:
=December 2010: Smitty sent to the Afghan Theater Of Operations; appointed Admiral Of The Afghan Seas
=April/May 2011: Navy Seals pursue and kill Osama Bin Laden
Mmmm.

Sarah Palin graciously gives credit where credit is due:

And how does the UK Guardian describe this? “No credit for the Obama administration from Palin, which seems both churlish and in character.” Just can’t let go of the politics, can they?

UPDATE III: Norah O’Donnell’s Typo Heard ‘Round the World:

In an attempt to release the news of Osama bin Laden’s death quickly late Sunday night, MSNBC correspondent Norah O’Donnell accidentally reported on Twitter that “Obama” had been “killed” instead.
“Obama shot and killed,” Norah O’Donnell posted on Twitter, citing NBC Chief Pentagon Correspondent Jim Miklaszewski as her source.
