BREAKING: Kaitlyn Hunt Refuses Plea Offer, Will Face Trial on June 20

Posted on | May 24, 2013 | 123 Comments

Kaitlyn Hunt, the Florida 18-year-old who admitted a sexual affair with a 14-year-old girl, has rejected a plea-bargain offer from prosecutors in Indian River County and will face trial June 20 on charges of lewd and lascivious battery.

UPDATE: Hunt’s supporters had mounted an online campaign claiming that she was the victim of homophobic prejudice in an effort to pressure prosecutors to drop the felony charges against her.

While prosecutors had offered a plea bargain that would have kept Hunt out of prison on supervised release, Hunt and her supporters wanted the charges reduced to a misdemeanor. Hunt’s supporters say because her sexual involvement with a 14-year-old freshman girl — which began inside a toilet stall at Sebastian High School — was consensual, she should not be charged with a felony.

UPDATE II: Liberal organizations and major media have united behind the #FreeKate movement’s argument that Hunt is a victim, and have demonized the parents of the 14-year-old as “bigoted religious zealots.” However, in an interview with the local CBS affiliate yesterday, Jim and Laurie Smith, denied those accusations, saying they twice warned Hunt to stay away from their daughter. The Smiths say they only went to police after a Jan. 4 incident in which their daughter went missing overnight; a sheriff’s department arrest affidavit in the case says the 14-year-old ran away and spent that night at Hunt’s house, where the two teens “put their fingers inside of each other’s vaginas, put their mouths on each other’s vaginas, and both of them used a vibrator on each other to insert it in each other’s vaginas.”

UPDATE III: It is doubtful that Hunt’s attorneys will attempt what Da Tech identifies as The Roman Polanski Defense:

“Judges want to f— young girls. Juries want to f— young girls. Everyone wants to f— young girls!”

But the cross-examination should certainly be interesting, eh?

And what about the forensic evidence? Will prosecutors include the vibrator as Exhibit A? If readers want to send me to Florida next month to cover The Teenage Lesbian Trial of the Century, this would be a good time to hit the tip jar.

UPDATE IV: Darleen Click at Protein Wisdom:

Merely three years ago Whoopi Goldberg was rightfully chastised for defending Roman Polaski’s sexual relationship with a 13 year old girl by questioning whether or not it was rape-rape. . . .
On one hand, we have the the Obama Administration demanding universities criminalize even “offensive” speech as sexual harassment, making all college students nascent sexual harassers; but we have a whole new social movement dedicated to decriminalizing sexual behavior with 14 year olds . . .
Minors must be emancipated from their parents and adults must be dependent on The State.

Dan Collins at The Conservatory:

Meanwhile, on Twitter, with the hashtag #FreeKate, and elsewhere online, the far left has tried to make this a cause celebre, painting the issue as one of two young girls being in love, but tormented by the younger’s Christofascist Godbag parents. . . . [T]hey go so far as to lie about the age of the younger girl, stating that she was just 17 (you know what I mean), when these incidents occurred, because that helps them shape the narrative of victimization.

You should read the whole thing. The automatic conflation of “gay = victim” is one of those emotional buttons that liberals love to push. And speaking of pushing buttons, hit the tip jar.

You’d hate yourself if I missed this one, wouldn’t you?

I graduated from Sebastian High, where alll this nonsense is going on. It is a small town, where majority of the population are old people that have moved there to retire by the water. This left us high schoolers very bored. I was not born and raised there so I wasn’t in this category, but one thing I noticed about the groups of girls was that they are very premiscuous and daring when it came to sexual relationships. Even now that I have moved on, there are girls in 8th grade that are acting what I remember 11th graders were acting. This problem could have happened anywhere else, its a much more common situation than we realize, but this is a crime and she’s lucky that its even getting attention if it werent for the over dramatic town that it is. The girls both are getting what they asked for. The kids in that town seem to think they are invincible and no matter how much drama or illegal things they take place in, it won’t stop em. It is DISGUSTING for an 18 yr old, regardless if she just turned 18 or not, to engage in that type of behavior with a 14 yr old. But like i said, that town is on a different level and its just gonna keep happening, despite the sexuality of the participants.

September actually, but technically you are more correct than I. I was under the impression that the alleged crime was committed a few months after turning 18 at the start of her senior year, but I guess you got me on that point. They are still less than 4 years apart in age, which covers them under the states “Romeo and Juliet” laws.

Leave it to the nut-jobs to drag politics and religion into a high school relationship. This is nothing more than a ” Contributing to the delinquency of a minor” case and she should only receive community service at the most. We had several cases like these in my high-school alone, however all were straight couples (to my knowledge). That is how they were all handled. 18 year old high school students have younger girl friends and boy friends. It’s high school, it happens. I was 16 years old and had an 18 year old girlfriend myself. They are taking this to far because of the homosexual circumstances. People can say what they want. A first offending female teacher that has sex with a 14 year old male student does not receive such a harsh consequence as this. For Christ sake they are both high school students. It’s not as if Kaitlyn is a teacher and it’s not as if Kaitlyn came off of the street and solicited the 14 year old girl. She doesn’t even have a record of child molestation. As I said, she should be punished, but not as extreme as this. If you look back at history, every similar case involving straight high school couples has been dealt with a much less harsh consequence, unless there were accusations of rape. However in the cases where the punishment was severe, coincidentally all include either interracial couples or like this case, same sex couples. It is a hate crime committed by various court systems. Under hate crime law it is known as “Criminal Penalty-Enhancement”. Some punishments do not fit the crime. You don’t give threaten someone with 15 years for a high school relationship, especially since it is commonplace for a senior to date a freshmen. I hope people aren’t naive enough to think that doesn’t happen. It did when I was in high-school. My own cousin had a child at 15 years old by an 18 year old senior. It’s nothing but hate and disgust of homosexuality from the 14 year old’s parents and the court system. No one said anything when 16 year old Miley Cyrus had a 20 year old boyfriend.

Nope. We have no way of knowing what the parents think of homosexuality nor is it relevant. They didn’t want their kid in a relationship. They are the PARENTS. The younger girl was used sexually in a bathroom. She was picked up by the older girl without her parents permission and was taken to the older girls house for sex. She refused to leave the younger girl after being told by the parents alone Sob stories about “luv” by some leftists and accusations of bigotry are irrelevant.
Cute little Kaitlyn the cheerleader doesn’t want to be told what or what not to do by anyone apparently. She broke the law. Some sort of punishment is necessary.

If it were a strawman, I’d agree, but it’s not. Operationally, there is no difference between the agnostic and Atheist when it comes to morality. Both are parasites.

Muslim morality is, at best, inconsistent and does not leave any room for itself among the reasonable. One reason Communists liked using Muslims was because of the idea of Taqqiya. It fit well with communist morality, which was also immoral.

There is a myth about that conservative is just another name for classical liberal. It ain’t the case.

You wanna be a moron go right ahead. You have repeatedly made a fool of yourself on this blog with many of your ignorant comments and have done so while insulting others from your ignorant stupidity. My profession has forced me to sit through many civil trials and I have witnessed judges ordering a witness to answer questions against interest time and again, even after trying to take the 5th. You wish to post the opinions of some shyster that has, most likely, had the same thing happen to one of his own people, you are welcome to do so. I have stated what I have witnessed, and has been the general opinion of the Law Profession for ages. I did not make the statement in a vacuum.

I would tell you to go back to things you know, but that would mean you would post very little here.

Oh I agree, the vast majority of people that claim to be conservative are of the CLASSICAL conservative type and it most certainly is not classical liberal.

I think the laws need to be reformed for men and women. The punishment against Kaitlyn is excessive and unjust. Her lover was her peer and we all need to acknowledge the uncomfortable fact that teens are sexual creators who are in the exploratory phase of their development. I am appalled at all the hateful, bizarre comments here; there is so much projection coming from the bigots who call her crazy and vice-ridden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWy5YKCyj9I

The only difference between an atheist and agnostic is the atheist has the courage of his convictions. As for my moral convictions, they wouldn’t be much if I saw them the way you see such things. Not every opinion is worth the same. My morality is based on timeless values that don’t debase a society. Can’t say the same for those of your ilk.

Are you also appalled at the “hateful, bizarre” smear campaign being waged by people on your side against the younger girl’s parents for the hate crime of being concerned about their daughter? Do you go to their websites and tell them so? Could you offer us links to your critical comments on those websites? Surely you’re not a self-righteous hypocrite.

I’ve never been to those websites and I’m being honest with you. I think the girl’s parents have control issues, though, and are very likely homophobic or, at the very least, have issues with sexuality.

I have no doubt that is exactly their thinking. They’re gonna gamble the other parents (the Smiths) aren’t gonna want their daughter on the stand, hence, a better deal as the trial gets closer. The Hunt’s don’t have to do anything but wait. Heck of a gamble, but I bet it works.
