Scott Brown: Taking Sexy Back
— The Other McCain, Jan. 13

Bringing Sexy Back
— Maureen Dowd, Jan. 26

OK, so we’re both cribbing from the same pool of pop-culture phrases. She does get in one good line:

The only question left is: Why isn’t Scott Brown delivering the State of the Union?

Maureen Dowd covers politics the way Us Weekly covers Hollywood: It’s all about celebrities, who’s up, who’s down, who’s in, who’s out. She’s not going to travel around central Massachusetts interviewing the lady at Mighty Subs or the parishioners at St. Anthony’s. She’s only interested in the superstars.

Thank God for Scott Brown, eh? This gives MoDo an excuse to do something other than sling snark at Sarah Palin.

UPDATE: Jennifer Rubin takes MoDo a bit more seriously, perhaps more seriously than she deserves to be taken. As a journalist, what kills me is that Dowd gets paid to write op-ed columns for the New York Times — which last month laid off 26 actual journalists — and turns in such utter crap.

Some of the reporters who got laid off could probably write better stuff. But they’re not Maureen Dowd, celebrity journalist. They never dated Michael Douglas. Or their editors.

MoDo is a luxury item, a gaudy and overpriced ornament, in an age when the news business is heading rapidly toward a low-budget WalMart operating model. I’d say Sulzberger should fire Dowd, but I’m hoping the ax falls on David Brooks first.

Let’s see, she is using the Left’s crappy judgement about Obama to reflect on the Right’s judgement of Scott Brown. Oh yeah, I really want the left’s advice when evaluating candidates…

    No Signs Of Intelligent Life?

Since the Scott Brown win I have not heard the phrase “Teabagger” being used by MSM Reporters. It’s not because those same Reporters weren’t relishing using it as an epithet for Average everyday Americans. Their Corporate Masters called them off because of the Scott Brown win?

I think tonight’s State of the Union Speech will have a strong Clintonian flavor.

It’s NYT week at You Have To Be This Tall To Go On This Ride blog spot

Why does Maureen Dowd compare our President to Mr Spock?

The State of the Union “Rescue, Restore, Rebuild. Mr Spock makes his move.

“When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go”

You know Maureen is not-so-secretly crushing on Scott Brown. It’s her ‘thrill up the leg’ moment. Dated Michael Douglas eh? Let me tell you something about Mr. Douglas…

“..that Obama is missing something — an affinity for and emotional attachment to ordinary Americans. That’s no joke. It’s a serious failing in a president, and one not easily remedied.”~ Jennifer Rubin

I believe she misses the finer point here. It’s not that he has a character flaw that predisposes him to emotional elusiveness, the man is not hardwired for emotional attachment.

    He is missing a chip.

He lacks empathy which is a very serious charge and does not bode well for the citizenry. The narcissistic supply is dwindling and that is what makes his engine run. When it blows, we are SCREWED.

As for MoDo…arrested development, high school, circa 1962.

Modo once invited my wife to her house for a shower for a mutual friend and my wife was actually surprised by Modo’s simple furniture and unpretentious behavior. Deep down inside, I still think she’s one of those shy Catholic-school girls who overcompensated in the frantic ’70s-80s feminist upheaval and donned a pen-portrait of herself as a cynical sophisticate who is a pseudo-populist snark slinger. [She broke into journalism as a SPORTS WRITER for the old Washington Star.] Despite her writing like the National Inquirer or Page Six NYPost lightweights, my wife says she is very quiet, & guesses that MoDo likes old fashioned he-men and strong silent Jon Hamm types.

She dated Warren Beatty as well as sex-addict Mikey Douglas, but she might have wanted a marriage & kids & was actually engaged or living with a conservative NYT science writer of Irish heritage.

She is not prone to excel in the tough back-and-forth swordsmanship and rapier wit that true feminist Ann Coulter, with her U.Michigan Law degree, wields with such clever savoir-faire.
