Kagan Confirmation Circus

Posted on | June 28, 2010 | 21 Comments

Yes, Michelle Malkin has declared this Kagan Kabuki Week in the Judiciary Committee, where Democratic senators will pretend that Kagan is a moderate pragmatist, and Republican senators will pretend that they’re still relevant. Some quick hits:

Flashback: Remember when Professor Glenn Reynolds called Kagan a “wise choice”? He didn’t mean that as a compliment, really.

Guess who gets the Google hits for “Elena Kagan nude”? Always glad to help. You can thank me later, ma’am.

UPDATE: Politico headline:

GOP plans attack on Kagan

When I was an assistant editor at The Washington Times, I waged a one-man campaign against using the language of violence to describe political debate. That kind of headline depicts the Republican Party as a gang of ruffians ready to assault the nominee.

Good news champs! Your Wikio rating has soared from 142 to 49 although I can’t see why HuffPo is no. 1 and Michelle Malkin is no.7. That’s whack.

Truth is elections matter. The left got that early and often, especially after Bush 2000.

The republicans and the conservatives thought elections were tools to manipulate internal debate. Now hopefully we know better. If not we’re screwed for a very long time.

She gets in because she’s not Lizzie Borden. Obama gets his picks. Is she qualified? On the left, who as been qualified for the last number of picks? Ruth? Sonya?

    It is what it is.

Today’s four very divided decisions ought to provide excellent fodder for Republican Senators. Whether the aforementioned are willing to use that manna from heaven is another matter entirely.

    Oh btw, elections have consequences:

Any guess on how Kagan would come out on this case?

Good decision btw linked above, Justice Thomas gives a spirited defense on why black people need guns to fight off racists like Robery Byrd (the Dems shifted during his life from skin color prejudicies to class warfare and wealth redistribution).

NYC residents will soon be able to defend themselves. Bloomberg will have to limit his state nannyism to regulating cooking oil.

Today’s decision in McDonald v. Chicago reaffirms that indeed gun rights apply to citizens, thus limiting the ability of the several States to restrict gun ownership. A 5-4 majority decides the case in favor of the Second Amendment. The plurality (Alito, writing, with Scalia, Roberts and Kennedy, joining) believe it to be another fundamental right incorporated through the Due Process clause (like, say, abortion, contraception and gay marriage). The lone voice crying in the wilderness, however, Justice Thomas, openly and forcefully critiques the plurality for going down this path. He would incorporate the right through the Privileges or Immunities clause of the 14th Amendment. His solitary opinion is a MUST READ.

Naughty, naughtly, Elena. I hope you agreed to a safe word in the event things get out of hand.
