A Net-Based Sarah Palin Write-In?

by Smitty

Muir at Day by Day is provocative, but I find the idea fraught with peril. Just as Congress doesn’t call a vote without a fairly deterministic outcome, the likelihood of a Sarah Palin write-in going pear shaped and resulting in Obama II: What Haven’t I Fracked Yet? is far too high for comfort.

In my perfect world, a viable conservative candidate, e.g. Santorum, would bring her on as a VP, both to harness the energy she brings, and to line her up for POTUS in 2020. Because 16 years of continuous fiscal sanity would be a fantastic start toward restoring liberty to its rightful place in this country.

  1. “a viable conservative candidate, e.g. Santorum”

You owe me a new keyboard. Sprayed generic diet Dr. Pepper all over mine when I saw that.

  2. A vote for anyone but the GOP nominee is a vote for Obama. I don’t like Romney or Santorum, but both are light years better than Obama and close scrutiny of their actions will help keep them honest.

  3. Sarah or Romney? I’ll take Sarah.

2nd fiddle to any of the current crop? Nope. She had to play cheerleader to McCain. She doesn’t need to be anyone’s cheerleader ever again. Santorum as VP? Maybe. My fear with him is we return to the days of the “Moral Majority” – and lose.

  4. I disagree.  While gridlock is a good thing, in many ways, please note how Obama is polarizing the country (even more than it was) with only partial control of Congress.

Obama needs to go.  And a vote for anyone but a GOP candidate (even if it is Mitts), or refusing to vote at all,  is a vote for Obama.

  5. Cameron, I’m not sure how I can explain this in simple enough language, but I’ll try:

ORomney can’t / won’t take the necessary actions to turn this country around, such as agreeing to repeal ORomney care. He’s got a proven record as a flip-flopper, an “any position to get elected” candidate.

If we don’t take those actions, this country will not survive. We can crash at full-speed under Obama or 3/4 speed under Mitt. The end result will be the same…. with one CRUCIAL difference:

With Obama, the Copperheads own the crash.

With Mitt, they have cover. “Republican policies!!! Republican President!!! Not our ideas!!eleventy!” Never mind that Mitt architected a major component of the problem and approved of others and refuses to admit he made a mistake!

If the Republicans nominate this guy, they obviously haven’t felt enough pain to get their attention. If the country elects him, ditto.

  6. I’d prefer President Sarah Palin as well.  But I lost my starry eyed idealism with politics around the time Bubba Clinton was redefining the word “is”.  The odds of a write in campaign for President working (assuming that all states even allow that option) are Not Good.

Reality sucks.  Deal with it.  Palin can have another shot in 2016.

    Obama.  Must. Go.

  7. Welcome to the ranks of the Obamabots, Blake.  You are giving Obama what he wants and needs — a divided GOP.

  8. So you’re prepared for the Civil War when Obama ignores them? Because you’ll need 67 committed conservative Senators (no McCain’s, Maine sisters, Scott Brown’s, etc.) to confirm the impeachment to have any hope of removing him without one.

  9. Well said, Smitty!
Palin would be great, in fact my favorite of her is sweeping through the halls of congress throwing out the whores and moneylenders – Yeah, biblical, whazzup with that?!

  10. That’s a might thin strategy, SDN.  Obama already owns the crash…..and is busy blaming the Republicans, who do not control Congress.  And. He. Is. Succeeding.

Do you see anyone holding Obama accountable to the point that he cries “Uncle!”??   I don’t.

    Obama.  Must. Go.

  11. Oh great

    ORomney POTUS
    Boehner Speaker of the House
    McConnell as Majority Leader

Whats the differance if OHbama wins? Nothing!

Right now the DC GOP is the enemy of the USA. They Have the power to stop The Won and instead gave him everything he ASKED for!

Its the same shit once yet again…vote for the less worst. No more. The worst is in controll in the DC GOP.

    Palin’s my write in

  12. So, no thought that the GOP is giving Obama what he needs by purposely dividing the GOP?

How many times are you going to excuse the GOP for foisting Bush the elder, I mean, Bob Dole, I mean, John McCain, I mean, Mitt Romney off on the conservatives? You ever stop to think that at some point, conservatives are going to get tired of the GOP running same game every single election cycle?

Conservatives have had enough. You “moderate” GOP’er’s will never admit that conservatives have gone along and been team players, otherwise Bush I and II would never have been elected and McCain would have lost by an even wider margin. Now, when the chips are really down, again, the GOP is starting the “blame conservative” game again while never looking in the mirror thinking they need to perhaps change their policies.

Conservatives are always expected to move toward the GOP without the GOP ever trying to move toward conservatives. I’ll give you a hint, it isn’t compromise when only one side is  making sacrifices.

  13. Well, Santorum is maybe one or two light years better than Obama, Romney might be almost approaching the speed of sound better, but I haven’t heard any sonic booms yet.

  14. With that many Republican Senators, which I doubt we will get, we could impeach his ass. Of course there’s the little problem of the ladies from Maine, and the RINO from Indiana, Arizona, and SC, etc., so we’d unfortunately need to pick up more than we should reasonably expect.

  15. Abject stupidity on stilts. The republican party is more conservative now than it’s been in a generation. The difference is the gaggle of self-righteous flakes these days who claim the mantle of “real conservative” behaving like a bunch of spoiled ass brats threatening to screw the pooch if republicans don’t nominate the second coming of Barry fucking Goldwater.

The republican party isn’t the problem. You are.

  16. I’ll try to use simple language for you, too:  Supreme Court Justices Sotomayor and Kagan.  The next President is likely to appoint 1-3 new Justices and another 2-300 federal judges, all for LIFE.  They will affect this country for at least another 30 years directly, with a legacy extending well beyond that.

If you don’t think there will a huge difference in the judges appointed by ANY Republican and Obama, there is little more which can be said to you, and no point at all in saying it.

Oh, you want to “send a message,” then?  You know what message you will send?  “I’m irrelevant, please ignore me!”

It will be a pleasure for us all.

  17. Supreme Court Justices and other lifetime appointments to the federal bench.  Appointing regulators and overseeing the rules they make.  Appointing the US  Attorneys and Attorney General.  Signing the repeal of ObamaCare.

There’s a few differences right off the top.

Don’t let your personal disappointment screw up the country for the next forty years, mmmkay?

  18. Cool, all name calling and no substance.

Yeah, the GOP is so conservative, the current standard bearer, Romney, thinks we should keep the good parts of Obamacare. Romney is such a staunch Constitutional Conservative, he will immediately grant Obamacare waivers.

When President Obama does an end run around Congress, it’s an imperial presidency.

But if Romney talks about doing the same kind of thing, I’m supposed to be okay with it?

Thanks for letting me know just how pragmatic your principles are.

  19. No reason at all that she should.  Been there, done that, got the tee shirt from a losing campaign.  Not again.

If she runs again it should be at the top of the ticket.  That way she runs the campaign her way, owns the result and can implement her vision if she wins.

The write in idea is emotionally satisfying but there won’t be nearly enough of those to win, unfortunately.  And I agree that in the general election staying home or any kind of protest vote is the wrong way to go, regardless of how we personally feel about whoever the nominee is.

    Obama. Must. Go.

  20. Since I reserve the right to withold my own vote, I obviously have no grounds to tell Muir et al what to do with theirs.

I would ask them to consider what this sideshow is going to do to Sarah Palin’s future viability as a candidate and conservative spokeswoman, though.

  21. He wouldn’t have to get his appointees past an 85% Democrat legislature (and at least for the first two years, would almost certainly have GOP control of both houses of congress; it’s hard to see how Romney wins without the GOP keeping the House and flipping the Senate).

  22. You do you case no good by calling JeffS a moderate.  If you had hung around here for any length of time, you would know he’s a true-blue conservative.

I intend not to vote for Willard is he’s the nominee, because, as SDN remarked I certainly plan to “take my despotism pure”.  But you do this cause no good by slamming good, honorable people like JeffS.

  23. Oh, come on, Adj: they despise her and will do whatever it takes to neutralize her, unless she becomes like them a pod person.

I just watched the segment on Larry The Cable Guy’s Only In America show with Todd and a fleeting appearence by her [do check it out at the 30 minute mark] and, having been around Establishment GOP types since the age of fifteen, I can tell you they think such people are, at best, to be humored, but never, ever, invited to the party [pun intended].

  24. A vote for X is a vote for X, not for Y or Z. And if it benefits Y at the expense of Z, big whoopie. Nobody owes it to you to vote for the candidate you prefer.

  25. He could have gotten more conservative judges through the Governor’s Council [which does the advise and consent to all judges, not the Legislature] because in Mass. the GOP has been a joke for so long that many conservatives have joined the Dems so that they have more than a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning elections – it’s an unusual situation.

  26. What’s the matter, upchuck, run out of names to call people? come on, give me a substantive argument. Or, are you only able to to make personal attackes?

I think it was adjoran who pointed out the federal judges and SCOTUS appointment is something to be concerned about.

That’s a pretty good argument, substantial even.

It’s an argument that might slow me down, then again, it might not.
