Between his inevitability and his electability, Romney’s advocates would have you believe their man is an unstoppable electoral juggernaut, a lead-pipe cinch to become the next President of the United States, and they’ve managed to sell that proposition with the assistance of journalists who seem suspiciously eager to ignore all evidence to the contrary. So when Santorum won his 11th victory Saturday in Louisiana by a margin much larger than anyone had predicted, the media went out of their way to pretend that this result was neither surprising nor significant. Fox News actually interrupted coverage of Santorum’s victory speech in order to permit their reporter Carl Cameron to provide the pro-Romney angle on the Louisiana vote. Sunday morning, Fox brought on Romney surrogate John Sununu and gave him 10 minutes of airtime to pour cold water on any notion that Santorum’s 22-point margin of victory in Louisiana might portend any meaningful revival of conservative resistance to Mitt. . . .
Read the whole thing. (Hey, if Rick can yell “bulls–t” at the New York Times, I think I’m OK yelling “kiss my ass” at Al Cardenas.)
UPDATE: Daria DiGiovanni stands by Santorum:
It’s refreshing to watch a GOP candidate for President express the outrage so many of us are currently feeling.
Stacy when did you becaom so nuanced?
You used to write plain AngloSaxon.
“Kiss my ass!~”? Sounds a little like JF Kerry
The above is sarcasm for the highly educated liberals who read and do not get it.
As dthe left never does; right JFK?
[…] II: Stacy McCain asks Roll Over for Romney?, while reminding us of Fox’s News Channel’s obvious and disgusting pro-Romney bias, […]
Go for it.
Because whiners, crybabies, and sissies deserve to have a candidate, too.
But mostly because it will ensure Sweater-Vest Boy will not be a viable candidate in the future. He can go back to his shadily-financed house in NoVa and his lobbyist law firm and once more disappear into the muck of influence peddling, where he belongs.
Hear hear, Stacy! It warms my heart to know that Rick can see all the lies these people portray in their daily “reporting.”
And you can take credit for helping re-elect the Teleprompter by favoring an Etch-A-Sketch for the GOP nomination.
Want another reason to roll over for Romney? Carly Fiorina the senate candidate foisted off on CA by the RNC and documented exporter of embargo’d tech to Iran, just endorsed Mitt today. It really does seem like the DC GOP is determined to re-enact CA 2010 on a national scale…
To answer the question: No.
How about just rolling over for reality. You know, before reality, like, you know, rolls over you?
Romney is the antithesis of the GOP, he may have a good head for business but when it comes to being conservative he has no clue. I too am tired of all this “Let’s just get behind him because he will inevitably win the nomination” crap. The RNC and their minions (Karl Rove, FoxNews, etc)need to step back and allow the people to decide.
Is that the kind of reality you want? Where people are made to be compelled to “embrace the inevitable” (pronounced inevitable by whom? I might add; I’ve heard that from the very start, why?)
Sometimes there are bigger things than winning. I like my feet on the ground rather than my back; I would prefer to keep my own opinions for as long as long as I can, so “No”.
I am sure as hell not thrilled with Mitt Romney as the GOP Candidate. I do not want to “roll over” for Romney. But I am more than concerned with Rick Santorum jumping in on the public lynching of George Zimmerman.
http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/03/rick-santorum-calls-trayvon-martins.html
Is there any alternative to the current GOP candidates?
Go look at the video link of Santorum saying he does not know what happened with Zimmerman and Martin, and then go on to say Zimmerman acted with maliciously. How would Santorum know? Is that a lie or did Rick say it?
http://evilbloggerlady.blogspot.com/2012/03/rick-santorum-calls-trayvon-martins.html
As compared to WHO? The serial adulterer who is the most despised political figure in America and has been for 16 years running, even when well out of the news and out of office? Or the whiny little crybaby?
Well, there’s the prospect of the convention throwing all these people out in favor of another candidate. I think we ought to make the current CIA Director an offer.
“compelled”?
You are are as full of it here as on the Martin case. Nobody is compelling anything.
Somebody SHOULD HAVE compelled you people to attend math class, but it’s way too late for that now.
Yes, it’s a Great Conspiracy. Fox News, The Establishment, all those millions of voters, they’re all just out to get you people.
Watch out! The Bilderbergers might be under your beds!
Sleep tight, Snookums.
You don’t get to choose your own reality. You can ignore it, avoid it, and deny it, but you can’t change it just to suit your whims. It just is what it is. If the world was made of fantasies, then you could have a pot of gold guarded by your own personal little leprechaun, and a flying unicorn to take you wherever you wanted to go. Unfortunately, the real world isn’t made that way. When most people grow up they find out the hard way there isn’t going to be a magic prince that’s going to sweep you off your feet and make all the bad ogres in your life go away. You wake up one day and realize that magic prince has turned out to be just another fucking dick with his own issues. And it seems like that’s going to be how this presidential cycle ends. With a fucking dick few of us really want, but hey-he’s what we got so we better get used to it.
There is something to be said for the concept that the fix has been in for Romney for some time now. There really is an Establishment it seems and they have been behind him, to varying degrees. I’m not the least bit fucking happy about it, but it is what it is. Maybe the next time conservatives will learn to stop being so picky and be disciplined enough to get behind somebody that walks the walk and talks the talk. Until such time, we’re going to continue to be stuck with these fucking dicks that care more about maintaining the status quo. It makes me sick, and it pisses me off, but on the other hand, I have to concede its as much our own fucking fault as it is theirs.
I love the way you can pronounce the Gingrich campaign dead in one post and then complain about the Santorum campaign being pronounced dead by others in the very next post. I tip my hat to you, sir.
You’ve got to realize that it’s not primarily the Romney folks throwing Rick under the bus now. It’s all the other Republicans who might want to run in the next cycle or get the VP nod in this cycle and don’t want to see Santorum established as the next frontrunner.
That’s Palin, Huckabee, Rubio, Christie, Jindal, Perry, Bachmann, Paul, Pawlenty, Daniels, Haley, Ryan, Kasich, Cantor, McDonnell, Thune, Portman, Pence, Martinez, Sandoval, McMorris, Huntsman, and maybe even Gingrich. And all their friends.
This of course is what happened to Mitt Romney after his second place finish in 2008. Romney won 11 states in 2008, Santorum should win a few more. Like Mitt, Rick will likely be passed over for VP and then spend 3 years in purgatory, if he behaves. Otherwise, it’s an eternity.
If you stick it out with Rick Santorum until Maryland votes on April 3, California votes on June 5, or even until the convention, again, I tip my hat to you.

Newt Gingrich has lost his last embedded print reporters, reporters on the trail confirm.
The last two print reporters covering Gingrich full-time on the trail
— from POLITICO and the Atlanta Journal Constitution — pulled out on

Santorum has indeed been displaying a great deal of outrage and passion. Whether that’s a good thing for him is not quite so clear.
Better a crybaby than a liberal.
He won’t go for it; although he certainly is capable.
[…] a post over at The Other McCain, Stacy puts his argument more succinctly: ‘Kiss my […]
I know, because I won’t bow down to the inevitable.
And my math comprehension skills are just fine; got an A and everything in it — for reals!
So…how’s the math stacking up for the general right now?
Dude, if you cannot wrap your head around the notion that insular bureaucratic, political entitities like the RNC and the DC GOP will take care of their own at the expense of the interests of their supporters, you have no business criticizing the judgment or grasp of reality of others. It happens at every level of government, from town councils to the White House. We happen to be living in a time when the practice has become toxic and malignant, so embracing a candidate endorsed by those same entities is a Bad Idea and should be opposed. We may lost, but So Da Fuk Wat. I’m Irish, it’s not like it’s never happened before. But if I have to go to my knees, I want the flesh of my enemies’ neck in my teeth, not some other body part.
I’d rather have a candidate who calls the press on their bullshit than a candidate who still tries to bullshit us that Obama is a good man.
Didn’t say anything about changing reality — just said I don’t want to give in to the reality that others seem to want me to.
Nothing is going make Romney my dream canidate, and I don’t feel as though I should have to lie and say that he is.
I don’t see how that is not facing reality.
Oh, and I’ve already voted, so it isn’t as though convincing me is going to make a difference in the primary at this point. So why the big push?
Just a simple tactic: get Americans to vote for you by telling them you are the inevitable winner – everyone wants to jump on board with a winner. Worked for the SCOAMF, and it could work for Romney.
Fact remains: a sizeable majority of voters not voting for the Democrat are rejecting Romney.
How does Romney fare among Democrats who won’t vote for Obama this year? If they are polling for Santorum, it’s time to retire Mitt to Aspen and go for the win.
http://petraeus2012.com/ That is like Political Rule 5!
If Newt wants to convince us his campaign is not at death’s door, he needs to do something non-dead… like win a primary. Otherwise, he’s just Spike Milligan hanging of John Cleese’s shoulder in the Bring Out Your Dead scene, and dragging him down.
Yeah, and Rick is just the guy to convince the voters to “retire Mitt to Aspen”, right after he convinces Protestant Christians to repent of all that sinful birth control they’ve been practicing.
If he had run . . .
There will be no brokered convention, though. You know that, and so does Stacy.
Hard to predict the general this far out, especially when we are still wasting precious time on whiny losers.
In 1976, if the election had been held a few days later, Ford would have been reelected. If the 2000 election had been held the Friday before, before the DUI story came out, it would not have been close.
He’s nobody’s “dream candidate” that I know of.
For that reason, you seem willing to damage his prospects with Santorum’s ever-more-strident rhetoric, which you are encouraging.
Face the reality of helping Obama.
Obama got 69 million votes last time. We cannot win without converting at least 5 million or so of them.
If we are screaming about how evil he is, they won’t bite, because they would have to admit they were suckered. People don’t like to do that. Stacy and Cain, Stacy and Santorum, for examples.
So the prudent course is the “nice guy over his head” approach. YOU want red meat, the swing voters do not.
Are you just insane?
Establishment types like Mike Lee, Jim DeMint, the head of the ACU, Rep. McCarthy?
You really prefer Obama to Romney? Because of those eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil “establishment” guys?
Need a calculator? Romney’s drawn a lot more votes than the others, so how do you stretch your brain to imagine they would fare better in a general election?
Whut kind of commie talk is that. As far as Rove and DC are concerned, the vote of the people is like “monkey points” (net profit points) in a film deal. We can play with them all we want but they have no intention of ever letting us see a penny off the deal.
Jim deMint ain’t got a say. Neither does the ACU, except as they retain the good will of the GOP leadership. Reince Preibus and the RNC and their network of backers and institutional supporters do. Or doesn’t it worry you to see Federal workers donating to Romney’s PAC? There’s a bunch agitating for smaller government.
How’d that work out for John McCain, Adj? Remember, “You don’t have to fear Barack Obama, ma’am…”?
Need a map? He’s been pulling his wins in a lot of states the GOP ain’t gonna carry on ANYONE’s campaign map.
It is not exactly a conspiracy when (most) all the conspirators are being so naked in their advocacy. More of a gentlemen’s (heh) agreement.
I say most because it certainly would appear that the Paulbots have lost much of their steam now that they’ve realized that they were getting played by their ‘Obergruppenfuher’ in order to protect Mittens’ flank.
So, your ‘conspiracy’ aspersions aside, it is, and indeed has been, a concerted effort by many to sell ‘the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama’ (aka Mr. 40% and-no-more) as the inevitable ‘choice’ to run against Obama.
Even though, due to his support for state-run health care, TARP, stimulus, AGW Cap-and-Trade, federal minimum
wage increases tied to inflation, the necessity of higher gas prices,
the right of a state bureaucracy to overrule religious conscience, and
the prudence of an individual mandate, he is substantially no different that Obama.
No one is telling Santorum to roll over because they’re worried he’s might make some massive comeback, they’re saying to drop out because it’s hurting our chances in the General when you have a fellow Republican every day taking pot shots at the obvious nominee. It also keeps our side stuck in 1st gear while Obama gets a MASSIVE head start.
Please show me a map of how Santorum gets to 1144 delegates and the percent he’s have to win in all the proportional states. You’re talking about winning by 70% of the vote in every primary until the Convention. If Romney withdrew from the race, Santorum wouldn’t be able to pull it off.
At this point, Santorum is no different than Newt, it’s just about spite and sour grapes. The latest outburst just shows what a child he is, I honestly feel sorry for his family, the look on his poor daughter’s face is heartbreaking.
Romney sucks! But he sucks less than Obama. I’ll vote for a ham sandwich over Obama, and if Romney wins the nomination, i’ll vote for the scumbag. And reserve the right to say “I told you so” to all the Romneybots if he wins and sucks.
If Santorum loses Wisconsin, he’s done. That’s the next big test, and he absolutely has to win it to be viable. And even if he does pull it out, that doesn’t mean he’s got any kind of decent shot at becoming the nominee. There’s still New York, California, Maryland, and others. My guess is he’ll lose Wisconsin. The next state of any significance that he might have a shot at winning, besides Pennsylvania, is Texas, and I even doubt he can win that. And if you really want to get down to brass tacks, I wouldn’t bet any serious money on Pennsylvania.
Actually Richard he’s been winning in many states the GOP not only can win, but in may cases absolutely must win. Ohio. Florida. Virginia. Nevada. New Hampshire (yes, those three measly electoral votes could make all the difference). Maybe even Michigan. And Arizona, which might seem like a sure thing, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
How many states now have you said that?
