No right thinking person should seek to diminish the tragic facts of the Trayvon Martin case, which merit full investigation and trial. On the other hand, American Power notes: “Trayvon Martin Case Threatens Race War in America“. The coverage on the local news has been at saturation level. Do any right-thinking people not grasp that the media frenzy has nothing whatsoever to do with justice, and everything to do with power?
When #OccupyResoluteDesk said “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon” he owned this whole thing. Should further violence be piled upon violence, Obama is culpable.
Arguably, this is the most leadership Obama has displayed in over three years of occupying the Resolute Desk.

From Wikipedia:
The Resolute desk is a large, nineteenth-century partners’ desk often chosen by presidents of the United States for use in the White House Oval Office as the Oval Office desk. It was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic Exploration ship Resolute.
What an interesting conjunction of memes, between the #Occupy movement, Hayes, Obama, and even Obama’s contempt for the British.
Would that there was less at stake, for all that.

Oh it completely about power and control. And there are no innocent parties…that’s the really sad part; that’s the hard reality of the situation — everybody thinks they want this to go just enough out of hand because they are pretty sure they personally will not have to pay for any bad consequences.
Of course when I say “everybody”, I mean all ideological, etc. parties involved — some individual people have managed to keep their heads and do the right thing.
Obama acted stupidly. Again.
The most intentionally divisive and cynical politician of my lifetime. You can take that man out of the street, but you can’t take the street out of that man. And the guy isn’t even of the street.
God help this nation.
Obama is a man-child of the living room in affluent suburbs where Leftist congregate.
The Ayers Dohrns also have a salon in the city Bob.
The lynch mob has drawn first blood….

The trouble is, if a race war starts many will not be able to avoid getting involved. They will bring it to many of us.
If someone tries to set your house on fire or tries to pull you from your car how do you stay out of it?
I think the responsible thing to do is to call for rule of law to get re-established, don’t side with either Zimmerman or Martin just because, and castigate those who are, because they are essentially standing on the sidelines and hoping to get some political traction from the foment.
Personally I think Martin was a punk and Zimmerman was a dumbarse, and while those aren’t criminal, those conditions can create scenarios like this. Sounds like both wanted to start something with the other — dumb, just dumb, and dumber yet to pick a side on this.
I also believe that there should be a call for all citizens (who are capable of doing so — because there are some that can’t and shouldn’t) to be trained in the proper use and deployment of firearms…so maybe people would at least handle them in an intelligent and thoughtful manner (it seems that a lot of people really don’t, and it’s getting worse). If people can have access to free condoms and IUDs, then they should also have access to free firearms training — consider it a health and public safety measure.
Trapped in the ice and abandoned was the fate of the Resolute.
Smitty explain why you know with such certainty the events of the shooting demand a trial? Are you privy to facts that the original investigators were not aware of?
Also, could you specify the charge(s) you believe match the facts?
Talking about lynch mobs, everything old is new again…
I’m not Smitty but here’s what I see: Zimmerman knew he was armed and did not have to follow Martin (he was advised not to even); now even under FL’s law you have to have reasonable expectation of self-defense and where this is a problem in this case is Zimmerman did not have to follow Martin…most people wouldn’t (especially if they were unarmed, they wouldn’t risk it)…why did he? And why did he get out of his vehicle? Again, most wouldn’t.
Remember: Martin may have been up to no good (then again, maybe he wasn’t; he hadn’t done anything up to the point); Martin beat Zimmerman (self defense kicks in) but what did Zimmerman say to Martin (who does not know that Zimmerman is armed and is not wearing any uniform to distinguish him, so to Martin this just looks like some average person). It was wrong of Martin to attack Zimmerman, but if Zimmerman instigated, knowing he himself was armed, then self defense does get called into question.
I think this whole incident could be filed under “When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong”…really wrong…oh boy…
except possibly trespass into a clearly marked area he hadn’t necessarily been given permission to enter.
Second, whether Martin had a weapon is immaterial… unless you want to argue no one ever got killed by a punch.
Third, anyone walking behind you in the street is fair game to take a punch at?
In the meantime our beloved leader steps into it again, this time with Putin — but that’s not the news of course.
Right now I’m rather ticked at the Republican canidates for not pointing this out. It isn’t that I don’t care about this case (it points to a lot of things that are going wrong in our country) but this snippet about the exchange between Obama and Putin is, imhao, a heck of a big freaking deal.
No more obsessing about roadside attractions, and many kudos to the canidate that first brings this up (I’m not going to hold my breathe).
Open fire. This has a salutary effect on would-be lynch mobs and arsonists.
Actually, the Romney campaign has some something. In restrained Romney fashion but they have done so.
Here’s a link about it:

I urge you to check the actual facts for yourself, and not to rely upon the media, which has not been an honest broker in this case.

All of which means absolutely nothing, ie. you are talking circular nonsense.
Self defense does not ‘kick in’ in the absence of credible threat or overt assault. Following someone does not constitute a crime. Hell, neither does verbally confronting or questioning someone.
By your own accounts Zimmerman did nothing illegal, and nothing to warrant a physical assault by Martin. You even said so much – ” [i]t was wrong of Martin to attack Zimmerman…”
Martin’s continued assault, with Zimmerman on the ground and unable to retreat, would be considered grounds for lawful self defense even in the absence of a ‘stand your ground’ law.
Martin acted stupidly, as teenage boys are wont to do.
TRIAL?? Some “investigation” you call for, since you already know what it “merits” . . . sounds a lot like Idiot-Boy Santorum on TV yesterday assigning malice to Zimmerman with no evidence at all. That guy is really dumb, good thing he will NEVER be President.
There ALREADY WAS an investigation. The cops interviewed Zimmerman at the scene and the station house – without an attorney – and all the witnesses, noted the physical evidence, and concluded they had no probable cause for arrest – which is REQUIRED under Florida law.
So they referred the matter to the DA, who reviewed the facts of the case and concluded there was nothing to prosecute.
Even Martin’s friends posting goodbye messages on his Facebook page only expressed sorrow and loss – not one mentioned any anger or outrage, because everyone knew there was no injustice here.
UNTIL the loving family – which hadn’t been so concerned about where Martin was on the night in question – found an attorney and started smelling a payday. Enter race pimps Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Obama to throw gas on the fire, the New Black Panther Party to fund violence, and Rick “Thick As A Brick” Santorum to pronounce guilt, and you’ve got a full-blown circus.
Yeah, I looked at that — and yeah the trespass.
So?
Did that give Zimmerman the right to go play Deputy McGruff? No, it didn’t. He called 911, was told not to follow, did anyway (and why was he out of his SUV?), and none of us (probably not even the cops) know what happened between that 911 call and the assault and subsequent shooting.
Again, Zimmerman knew he was armed — when you are armed then you have a responsibility to not escalate (because you have the capability of killing).
Here’s a quetion: what if Martin really had been a true blue banger and he had his own piece? Zimmerman could’ve wound up dead. Or worse, Billy the Kid and Sheriff Cassidy here decide to have themselves a little shootout and somebody else could have wound up dead. Then what would you all be saying about this? (that is if we would have even learned of it)
And that is why this whole thing is toxic and it is a bad idea to go making some sort of hero/martyr out of either of these dipshats.
yeah, but we don’t know if Zimmerman said something to Martin that instigated the assault
And remember, Zimmerman is armed; he knows he is armed…and that could change the dynamic a lot
Yeah, Martin acted stupidly — he’s also dead. I think he already paid the piper on this. But Zimmerman wasn’t exactly acting intelligently…he was negligent. He doesn’t deserve to be rallied around. In fact, he may be as my uncle (a criminal lawyer) used to say “not exactly innocent even if he is not exactly guilty”.
At the very least he needs his CCW permit yanked (and maybe we need to be thinking about how those are issued…because I really don’t want a bunch of bozos who think they’re going to be Dudley Dooright walking around armed).
If you’re going to have it, then use it correctly…free lessons (ongoing for the entire time you hold a license), a public safety and security issue; let’s do this.
Well then kudos to Mitt; I’d give him big freaking kudos if he hadn’t been so subtle (why Mitt? why can’t you?!)
But at least he brought it up and hasn’t appeared to step in this mess too much (attention Newt and Rick).
An attorney would encourage the family to press charges — because of what I just reiterated. The attorney found something to go off of.
This is why lawmakers need to cool it with the ambiguously worded laws too — it just asks for situations such as this. This is going to do wonders for making the case for concealed carry and fewer gun control laws (which some on the right want too; they aren’t exactly all proud, bold backers of the 2nd)…oh boy.But by all means, beat the drum of outrage to score political points for this guy, even though it will cost you in the end (have to do exactly what the left does after all).
Obama is pure evil, as in there is no. good. in. him.
I’m not talking circular nonsense: if Zimmerman accosted Martin with an intent to start something, that turns what Martin did into aggravated a/b, then it opens up the idea that Zimmerman trailed and accosted Martin with purpose (a good attorney could make Zimmerman look like he was stalking Martin or that he attacked Martin first; I don’t think he did that necessarily, but he did go after him…his own motives should be questioned).
Playing the Fearless Fosdick of the neighborhood watch is not a good reason for doing what he did — guys not a hero, he’s a yutz…at best.
Mind you, I’m not in Martin’s camp either — he was a hotheaded, idiot punk, but he’s already paid his price to the piper.
and might I add:
It doesn’t matter one freaking bit what Martin’s friends and family were acting like prior, it doesn’t matter what Martin’s twitter account reads, it doesn’t matter if the rumors of him dealing drugs before are true — because Zimmerman knew nothing of any of this on that night, and on that night Martin wasn’t doing anything (ok, except for acting suspicious and a possible charge of trespass…that usually warrants the blue light special driving by and telling you to go home, maybe escorting you there…but that wasn’t allowed to happen now was it? and why wasn’t it?).
What matters, what the law has to concern itself with is did the law get broken by Zimmerman (and honestly, he stretched it, he walked up to the line and saluted it, and depending upon the judge they may rule he broke it if it goes to trial) — and it also needs to concern itself with: is the law worded in such a way that incidents like this could happen again and possibly with worse results? Because the law has to protect and serve the public, and that’s really the only topic of concern to any of us on the sidelines.
In which case Martin’s lifestyle is not the point, nor should we be turning it into a major topic. Wouldn’t matter if he fathered 20 kids, sold meth, and kicked puppies for a hobby — his lifestyle is not on trial.
I’m encouraged though that more conservatives than usual seem emboldened enough to call out the left on their racist BS hunt for Tom Wolfe’s proverbial “Great White Defendant” (ignoring for the time being, that he is a Hispanic).
Hopefully, the tide is turning against our divisive, racist President and his allies.

Well that does definitely need to be called out, and the stupid Panthers need to be called out plus any stupid @#$%@#$% that supports them with this, but I think it should be called out on any crime where the media decides to either bury it or turn it into a circus. Because that’s wrong — and the right isn’t exactly siding with what’s right here themselves.
Crime is crime, and they should all be treated equally — the skin color, gender, class, religion, clothing, yadda yadda of the victim or the perp (or in this case the two freaking idiots) should not matter. Equal before the law.
I am however not hopeful, because the right is merely mirroring the left and forgetting that the prime thing here is “equal before the law” rather than — they sided with “X” and turned him into a martyr, so we’re going to make “Y” ours. In fact, I’m pretty much without any hope.
Again, you saying things not in the record. “Deputy McGruff”?
Come on! You’ve made your mind up, so I won’t bother you with the actual facts.
Once again, you are just making stuff up. That’s dishonest.
The facts are the facts, not what you might imagine them to be.
…so Martin gets benefit of the doubt, but Zimmerman does not…right?
There is nothing ambiguous about the law. There is nothing ambiguous about the facts as related by the witnesses and the physical evidence.
Yeah, the attorney “found something to go off” all right – $$$$. And guess what the grieving mother did? http://tinyurl.com/boxcasl
The point is no one was thinking Zimmerman had done ANYTHING wrong, including Martin’s friends and family, until the lawyer shows up and the possibility of a payday appears.
They didn’t give a rat’s patootie where he was all night, but now, oh, the pain, the pain, nothing can make up for it but some money would help!
There has been NOT ONE SINGLE SHRED of evidence that indicates Zimmerman did anything wrong, or that the police did not investigate the matter thoroughly and professionally, or that their conclusion and the prosecutor’s conclusion that there was no probable cause upon which to make an arrest, was in any way inaccurate or based on incomplete information.
NOTHING.
Rich Lowry, Santorum, and the other leftist-butt-kissing sob sisters are 100% wrong.
I hear he’s fond of children and dogs.
So he’s got that going for him.
Yes, you are talking nonsense.
You say, in regard to Martin, that ‘self defense kicked in’ but are not willing to assert that he had any justification for getting physical – stating “if Zimmerman accosted Martin…” something that has not been reported and is mere speculation on your part.
You then double down on your inanity by stating that you “don’t think” Zimmerman attacked Martin first – ruling out any possible justification for Martin assaulting Zimmerman, thus making Martin the aggressor. Bravo, you are self refuting.
Quit while you still can, it is obvious you are attempting to create a narrative to suit your prejudged opinion of what the outcome should look like.
Well, there are days when I’ve certainly felt like it, but I digress.
Thing is: Zimmerman should have let the cops (who were on their way) do their job instead of proceeding — he didn’t, he escalated the incident by confronting Martin. Come on! That’s not something anyone should condone — again, Martin wasn’t doing anything that needed direct, immediate intervention when Zimmerman accosted him. This is not the sort of behavior you want to give tacit approval of by defending Zimmerman to the hilt.
Support the rule of law instead, which kinda takes a dim view to citizens deciding to take the law into their own hands (which is operating on many different levels in this whole tangled affair).
Next of kin have absolutely zero to say about whether charges will be filed. Yes, a victim can decline to press charges, but even in such cases the prosecuting attorney can still bring charges if he deems them in the public interest.
The family can bring a civil suit. But that is another matter entirely. More importantly, there is little point in bringing suit unless there is a possibility of a significant recovery from the . I doubt Zimmerman has a pot to piss in, much less any way of paying a judgement.
That is why there was all the hoopla about malfeasance by the local officials, and ‘stand your ground laws’ – these were all trial ballons seeking to expand the potential list of defendants to someone who might have deep pockets.
That, and race baiting and grievance mongering from the usual vultures.
Following somebody after you have been advised by the dispatcher does definitely give away the fact that you are indeed getting the idea to act like Deputy McGruff!
What part of “don’t do that” is so hard to understand? Cops were on their way; there was no reason for Zimmerman to proceed, but he did anyway.
Like I said: would the comments be different if somebody in one of their houses had gotten shot instead?
I’m thinking yes…
Try reading the whole thing…
“One witness, who has since talked to local television news reporters,
told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding
him — and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for
help.”
Thus far and apparently; can we wait for an investigation?
No, neither of them do.
The only benefit of the doubt Martin gets is he’s already paid his price for being dumb, so he’s a moot point.
As for making things up: Zimmerman is now saying Martin went for his gun…which means he had his gun out. Why? And if that’s the case, then it raises questions about the whole attacked from behind (unless Zimmerman is really freaking stupid — once you point that thing, you don’t turn your back on the person you drew it on; in fact, you don’t ever draw a firearm unless you are committed to discharging it — second rule of firearm usage; first being, be very damn sure that the situation warrants using that firearm in a safe and responsible manner).
I could make the same arguement.
I said “I don’t think” because we don’t know, but we don’t know. And no matter what, I stand firm by what I have said: Zimmerman was stupid for engaging with Martin and this led to what happened. He doesn’t deserve to be made into some hero for being a dumbarse anymore than Martin. What he did was stupid, and wrong, and irresponsible — and those are not things I’m going to support.
