The U.S. Crumbles, While President ‘I’ Candy Couches It On ‘The View’

UPDATE: CNSNews dropped the page, for whatever reason. I updated my URL to point to Google, and my source article is the second link.

UPDATE II: Aha, a ruse! Thanks to Thane Eichenauer in the comments.

CNSNews reports the Lakota Sioux, led by Russell Means, have called it quits for the second time.

“We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us,” long-time Native American radical leader Russell Means said. The move potentially impacts the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

Russell Means was good in Last of the Mohicans. But his declaration that the Lakota are not longer in the U.S. is not exactly bombing Fort Sumter.

I’m sure the 7th Cavalry would love to have another go at them.

Looks like CNSNews deleted the article, Smitty, although the meme is all over the INTERNET.

Russell Means has been barking about this for decades. If the Lakota Sioux could have seceded from the Union, they would have done so years ago. From his perspective, it’s not about Obama, it’s about redrawing the map to favor the American Indian. Period.

That said, this would be a good time for Means and his AIM to try and do so. Personally, I doubt they could do it, not without the active cooperation of the state governments involved. There’s a lot of enthusiasm in AIM, but not a lot of talent.

So, your people won’t take free fedgov money anymore? Is that the idea? The tribal casinos will start paying full taxes?

Russell, brother, I completely agree you ought to break lose from what has become the Native-American model for the USA collectivist post-capitalist future.

That is to say, anybody who wants to see how socialism looks only needs to visit a tribal area, right? Squalor, Russell? Is that the right word? That’s what you’ve been living under, and it’s killing your tribes.

It isn’t America you’re rejecting, chief, it’s Obama.

The small, but independent-minded, Paco tribe is preparing to secede, too.

How do I know we’re Native-Americans? Family folklore. If it’s good enough for a Democratic senator-wannabe, it’s good enough for us.

Be sure to check out our new casino, and take advantage of our low, low cigarette prices!

He was also the voice of Powhatan in Pocohantas. Which does not add credence to his political views; that’s like John Kerry doing the voice for an Oompa Loompa for yet another remake of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”.

Russell Means is pissed off at the government. I get that. But he doesn’t speak for the Lakota or Native Americans in general, but I am sure many share his views. Okay. My reaction to that is, stop offering the buffet special at the Tribal Casino and that might have more of an impact. And I am not saying that to mock him, it just reaches a point that people have to move on and make the best of current conditions. I am more for giving tribes greater self control and less interference by the federal government.

Bad Eagle, at the link in Update II, offers a better explanation of the situation. I was not trying to snipe at you; the snark came out badly. My apologies.

Russell Means has trying to use AIM for his own agenda for a long time; I had to deal with the fringes of AIM whilst going to college in South Dakota, so I don’t have a particularly high opinion of the man.

My own experience with tribal government (which are NOT standard, not by any means) is limited, and I was not aware of Mean’s standing within the tribe, but what Bad Eagle says does make sense.

The first two results point to CNS News and all I get is a 404 Page not found error. DR.David Yeagley’s column at Bad Eagle tells the enough of the story. Than, below, has the link to it.

I’ve known several People who were involved in AIM, and none of them have good things to say about Means.

Never met Russel Means, though I did have to put up with some of his disciples, having gone to college in the southwest during the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ little sailing trip. A couple of them were certainly living up to the other translation of the A.I.M. acronym: A**holes in Moccasins.
