California Official Who Misreported Unemployment Is Obama Donor

Bias? What bias?

Marty Morgenstern, the secretary of the California agency that substantially under-reported unemployment claims last week, contributed to President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential election campaign, The Daily Caller has learned.
On Oct. 11, the federal government reported that weekly jobless claims were down significantly, suggesting a dramatic national increase in economic growth and a steep decline in layoffs. Jobless claims, according to the Labor Department, had fallen by 30,000 to 339,000, their lowest level since February 2008.
The good news for the Obama administration spread quickly, with outlets like CNN and Bloomberg declaring, “Jobless claims fall to four-year low.” . . .
According to campaign disclosure records, Morgenstern donated $4,600 — the maximum amount allowed by law — to the 2008 Obama camapaign . . .

  1. It would be of some interest to see if certain other sources of “good news” for Barry have similar histories. Take Candy Crowley, for example…

  2. Bias? Enough with that goddam word! This is overt manipulation. It’s partisan action. It’s not a damn attitude!

  3. This is why investigations and exposure of perfidious acts of the prior administration are crucial. Even though civil or legal sanctions would be difficult to obtain, that doesn’t mean their actions shouldn’t be exposed and vilified. When Republicans take office their actions are constantly scrutinized by the Winston Smith Media while Social Democrats abuses of power go not only unpunished but unmentioned.

  4. I believe in giving everyone the benefit of the doubt because I know sometimes larger states do submit incomplete initial numbers. So I’d like to know how many times in the last four years the California numbers have been partial, and how many of those were under the same guy.

If California is frequently sending in partial numbers at first, it could be just an incompetent bureaucracy that doesn’t care about deadlines because there are no consequences for missing them. OTOH, if this was the first time in years it happened in California, that looks very bad.

This is terribly serious, a state official breaking his oath and manipulating required submissions to affect a national election? If that’s what happened, the guy should be dragged naked through the desert and then shot. After a fair and impartial trial, of course.
