Marshall University Journalism Professor Expresses Violent Fantasies Against NRA

Professor Christopher Swindell rants in February 2011 YouTube video

America’s university faculty lounges harbor totalitarians, and Christopher Swindell, Ph.D., is a campus commissar of communications at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. His field of expertise apparently includes Hating Right-Wingers 101:

Watching the celebration at the NRA convention over the defeat of background checks was the most nauseating experience of the day.

Coherent sentences are optional for Professor Swindell:

This foaming at the mouth, Obamar is coming for the guns, Nanny Bloomberg is a bad billionaire, and most despicable of all, those survivors and victims are pawns in the liberal agenda is knuckle-dragging Cretan talk.

(He means “cretin,” unless the professor or his spell-check program intend an insult to residents of the Greek island of Crete.)

And no matter how many times Sen. Joe Manchin tries to explain his compromise (a decent attempt thwarted by extremists), the hard right lies and foams. The repeated lies now seem like the truth, what with the likes of Sen. Kelly Ayotte telling them.
Probably the most serious miscalculation opponents make is the guest list for the NRA speaker’s podium. To let the half-wit half-term quitter Sarah Palin have a microphone is to alienate the very people Republicans need to work with on future legislation. To say nothing of the other speakers. . . .

A journalism professor wrote this ranting gibberish? I’ve seen better prose in the comments at Daily Kos. Eventually, Professor Swindell gets around to making his point — The Glorious People’s Army must crush this reactionary insurrection of the kulak saboteurs!

The NRA advocates armed rebellion against the duly elected government of the United States of America. That’s treason, and it’s worthy of the firing squad. . . .
Normally, I am a peaceable man, but in this case, I am willing to answer the call to defend the country. From them.
To turn the song lyric they so love to quote back on them, “We’ll put a boot in your —, it’s the American way.”
Except it won’t be a boot. It’ll be an M1A Abrams tank, supported by an F22 Raptor squadron with Hellfire missiles. Try treason on for size. See how that suits. And their assault arsenal and RPGs won’t do them any good.

Do Professor Swindell’s colleagues on the Marshall University journalism faculty approve these sentiments? Do the taxpayers of West Virginia know that they’re paying this semi-literate clown to teach journalism to their young people? I’m sure readers will be shocked — shocked! — to discover that Professor Swindell agrees with Charles Johnson:

“Stop treating climate change as a myth. Good conservatives should abandon leaders who take this settled issue and kick it like a political football.”

That’s from Professor Swindell’s 2011 YouTube rant entitled, “Why we’re not getting along.” Of course, he’s a semi-literate journalism professor and not a climate scientist, but I’m sure “good conservatives” won’t mind letting Christopher Swindell, Ph.D., tell them who their leaders should be, just like I’m sure the taxpayers of West Virginia don’t mind paying the salary of a professor whose environmental agenda would effectively shut down the coal industry.

    Based on my experience with armed federal employees, the weapon most likely to be abused is a .40 Glock or Sig. I’m not worried about the guy who drive M1As.

  6. If climate change is not an “end of days scenario” then why do idiots like Swinden care so much about it? Michael Chrichton and Bjorn Lomborg are right, climate change is happening (to some extent), but it is probably not driven as much by CO2 as people think (a lot of it is solar cycles), it is not a catastrophic issue, and throwing trillions on it is fool hardy and hurts the environment by denying money better spent on habitat preservation or other social needs.

  23. As with most “Schools of Journalism,” the faculty is comprised of wannabes who couldn’t make it in the English Department. Few if any have ever actually worked as a journalist at all.

    In this fellow’s case, it is evident his ignorance isn’t confined to English and journalism.

    Close. Take a look at the first sentence in the paragraph and the way he spells “Obamar.” He thinks what he’s doing is clever– by making these allusions to unintelligent, redneck RWNJs. But he’s not clever. He can’t write a cogent sentence in English. It’s sad.

  37. I couldn’t find a single comment on that “hot mess” of his that was in support of the professor. Not one. In fact, Swindell kept fabricating threats from commentors in some ridiculous attempt to achieve victimhood status.

    I suspect he is feeling the heat because nobody likes him anymore. And since they have bigger issues to deal with right now (IRS Scandal, Benghazi, “Drones R Us”, Sebelius Blackmailing Scandal, Press Spying Scandal, “Get Ted Cruz Before He Get Us” Campaign), the left isn’t exactly running to defend the professor.

    And he’s being totally obliterated at the WV Gazette.

    For some reason, Biden and barack decided it was a good strategy to kick the miners to the curb. So this guy’s rant is about as timely and useful to the average Mountaineer as the old joke about, “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln.”
