In Case You Missed It, @MileyCyrus Got Super-Skanky on the VMAs Last Night

Of course, I didn’t watch MTV’s Video Music Awards, but the morning news shows were running . . . er, highlights of her performance, from which I gather that the name of her latest hit song is, “Do Me in the Butt, Total Stranger, Because I Need Money to Get Me Some Meth.”

OK, I’m hat-tipping Ace of Spades for that joke, because that’s what Ace would have said circa 2006, before he got all “respectable” and stuff. The inspiration lives on. Anyway . . .

How skanky was Miley Cyrus last night? Mika Brzezinksi felt the need to condemn it as “disturbing,” because Mika would never let a total stranger do her in the butt, not even if she needed some meth.

Mika’s not working on a Masters degree in Gender Studies, however, and doesn’t understand how 21st-century pro-sex feminism regards this whole “do me in the butt” thing as empowerment.

Da Tech Guy has some relevant thoughts, none of which involve the phrase “do me in the butt,” for which I’m sure you’re grateful.

UPDATE: Can I pick ’em, or what?

Apparently, linking to the “about” page on @Andria_XX‘s blog constitutes harassment. The real problem, however, is that when you’re living inside an intellectual cocoon — and if a graduate program in Gender Studies doesn’t fit that description, what does? — you’re not accustomed to being directly criticized, let alone ridiculed as a nincompoop, and you may actually forget that the secondhand radical ideology you’re being spoon-fed is controversial out in the real world.

UPDATE II: Aannnnddd she just switched her account to protected status, an experience which I’m sure she’ll blame on the patriarchy.

UPDATE III: Blame where blame is due:

Hats off to SooperMexican, who spotted Andria’s Tweet, and to Zilla Stevenson who realized I needed to see it, and I think there was An Army of Heteropatriarchal Davids who spontaneously decided that Andria deserved Dumbest Person on Twitter recognition.

  1. Andria’s PARENTS pay THEIR good money…or you and I, depending on how many student loans she defaults on.

  2. Colgate University has offered a program in Peace Studies since around about 1970. My inside man in the skunkworks tells me they hand out about a half-dozen diplomas in the subject per year on average (in graduating classes that number just shy of 700).

For thirty some-odd years, the program was run by a British sociologist whose research speciality was ethnographic study of (leftoid) protest movements. The current director is an architectural historian. That makes little sense, but since he has an avocational interest in Israeli politics and some adjacent areas of the Near East and occupies a place on the marches of the Jewish Vichy caucus, I guess he was considered a suitable successor by the previous occupant (now retired to that sceptered isle, where all the roast beef is overcooked, all the toast is cold, all the dental care is wretched, and all the intellectuals despise the Jews).

The funny thing is, the upper stratum at Colgate has long had a more vigorous regard for appearances than Hamilton College down the road, so they avoid the sort of scandals which erupt when academic patronage is distributed to gauchiste gargoyles with no demonstrated academic competence (they actually have an ‘artist/activist in residence’ at Hamilton College).

  3. Yay! She bravely came back from the self-imposed exile no ine gave a damn she umposed. Guess no adked to follow her?

  4. Wait, I need some clarification here.

    Is homopatriarchy ok?

Does ‘homo’ trump patriarchy, or is being gay just a get-out-of-feminist-mindcrime-jail free card?

Keeping up is getting downright difficult.

  5. Yay! She bravely emergef from the self imposed exile no one cared about her imposing! Get her on Oprah!

  6. That explains the sheer, ungodly inanity of many that I receive.

If I am ever found under my desk, whispering, “Please make it stop!”, you will know the reason why.

  7. She’s 50, and, unless her parents are both well-off and insane, she must be finding some way to pay for this herself.

Perhaps she gets paid to work terms like “heteropatriarchical” into tweets?

  8. It’s painful, isn’t it? I’m nearly 50, and I run a foundation. She’s still working on a degree in “Studies”.

  9. Yours is one of the comments I LOL’d over. There have been many on this thread. So entertaining. (I don’t get out much 😉 )

  10. Usually students, trying to sound smart while writing a 10 page paper 3 hours before it’s due.
Or instructors, trying to sound smart so their papers will be accepted at the next big conference with a free bar.

  11. Does that mean that shaming Ms. Cyrus for an obvious lack of talent and creativity is out as well? (seriously; the girl can’t sing or dance, isn’t decorative in any aesthetic way, and even her attempts at shock are woefully banal and robotically derivative…besides the whole slutty skanky thing).

  12. Rush warned that people would succumb to “anal poisoning” for their extreme sycophant-ism (did I just make up a word?).

I’ll bet they share and compare polyp photos.

  13. heteropatriarchal slut shaming, the new olympic sport. I don’t think heteropatriarchal is meant to be capitalized even at the beginning of a sentence, because Obama!

  14. We need to be prepared for Him. Remember that Elijah and Moses didn’t look at God directly. Imagine what would happen if we weren’t prepared?

  15. I don’t necessarily care about her (although she seems to be a very troubled young woman, and that is at least cause for some pity — as well as alarm; the ranks of “troubled young women” seem to be swelling; Ms. Cyrus is merely an example). I do however care that this display of hers is being marketed to society (especially young people) as somehow ok — both from a moral and artistic sense. It’s corroding our values as well as our taste. Just my opinion though.

  16. And after gossiping about it with a black colleague: you know, there may be a point to this “Miley is putting on a minstrel show” thing. Colleague made an interesting comment about how, as a black person, the behavior Ms. Cyrus displayed (the twerking) and her past comments which allude to being so down with blackness just highlights things that most black people really don’t want to be solely defined by;in fact, aren’t exactly proud of….as well as mentioning that if that was one of their kids there would be some disciplinary action meted out, perhaps locking them in their rooms for life.
I can kind of see this, because Miley’s dad has made a very big deal about being redneck and hillbilly (I myself come from a blue collar background) — and the image Mr. Cyrus (and his daughter) is projecting is very caricatured in regards to them as well…and his daughter’s stunts aren’t helping either. I mean, if you really look at it — isn’t this display of Ms. Cyrus a bit smacking of a side show carnival act? One that helps to further a meme towards two classes of Americans that alludes to their underclassedness? As well as portraying women as well, whores?
In which case, I might enquire as to why feminists are so on board with defending her and her tawdry displays? Hmmm…makes you wonder, huh? Maybe someone should ask perhaps?
