Teachers Arrested for Child Pornography

Sunday, after reporting the arrest of a youth football coach for allegedly raping an 11-year-old cheerleader, I did a Google News search and quickly compiled a list of five other recent cases where cheerleaders were molested by coaches. My young friend Christine Rousselle objected that I was unfairly tainting an entire profession for the acts of a few bad apples. OK, then, let’s do the same thing by the same method, but using different search terms. St. Charles, Ill.:

School officials in St. Charles are moving to fire a Sycamore man arrested this week on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Jerome McCauley, 45, was charged Monday after police searched his home in the 300 block of Grant Street in Sycamore. Court records show he acknowledged having between 1,000 and 1,500 images and five to 10 videos of child pornography, some showing 12-year-old girls.
St. Charles School District 303 soon will begin the dismissal process, Superintendent Don Schlomann said. McCauley is a 19-year employee with District 303, who taught seventh-graders and coached volleyball at Wredling Middle School. He was placed on leave after his arrest.

Marblehead, Mass.:

A Marblehead High School physics teacher has been placed on leave after he was charged in Rhode Island this week following an investigation into child pornography.
William Morgan, 30, of 18 Maverick St., Marblehead, was arraigned Thursday in a district court in Warwick on charges of possessing child pornography and transfer of child pornography, state police in that state announced.
The case was the result of an undercover investigation by Rhode Island state police, the United States Marshals and the Secret Service. Morgan was one of 11 men arrested.

Wilmington, Del.:

A University of Delaware elementary education student, who served as a student teacher in Middletown and Townsend, faces more than two dozen child porn charges.
Bradford Holstein, Jr. was arrested after a search of his Newark home on Thursday.
Police and members of the Child Predator Task Force confiscated four computers and several digital storage devices, on which they found multiple video files of child porn.

Marion, Ky.:

After an investigation by Kentucky State Police, a Crittenden County High School teacher is facing a number of sex offense charges including possession of child pornography.
In late August, Kentucky State Police say they received an anonymous tip regarding an inappropriate relationship between Blair Winders and a female high school student. . . .
Blair Winders, 37, of Marion was charged with the following:
• Sexual abuse 1st degree
• Use of a minor under 18 in a sexual performance
• Prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor regarding sexual activity
• Possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (51 counts)
• Distribution of obscene matter to a minor 1st offense
• Tampering with physical evidence
Winders was booked into the Crittenden County Detention Center.

Erie, Pa.:

A suspended northwestern Pennsylvania high school teacher awaiting trial on state court charges that he molested a boy for several years has now been charged for a second time this year with producing and possessing child pornography.
The latest charges filed by federal prosecutors in Erie allege David Montgomery, 43, of Erie, enticed two boys — described in court documents as one born in 1995 and the other in 2002 — to commit sexual acts so he could make photos or videos.
The charges involving the 1995 boy stem from at least eight incidents between July 2005 and July 2010, while Montgomery made pornography featuring the other boy once in August 2010, according to court documents.
The new charges, first reported by the Erie Times-News on Wednesday, grew out of a search of Montgomery’s residence in April that occurred after a now-18-year-old man claimed that Montgomery molested him repeatedly from age 8 to 15.

Bangor, Maine:

Patrik Ian Arsenault, 27, pleaded not guilty Friday in U.S. District Court to three counts of sexual exploitation of a male minor child and one count each of transportation of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Arsenault had been a teacher in a regional autism program Wayne Elementary School and was supposed to start at W.G. Mallett Elementary School in Farmington in the upcoming school year as a special education teacher in kindergarten through grade three, according to a previous published report. . . .
Arsenault was arrested at his home in August by Maine State Police and agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. . . .
Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney told the Bangor Daily News in August that the incidents involving the boys allegedly occurred in Belgrade between June 15 and July 30. They are the children of someone Arsenault knows and have mental disabilities, she said.
“It’s really upsetting that he not only created the child pornography, but also distributed it on the Web,” the prosecutor said. “It hurts the victims every time it’s viewed by another person.”

Niagara Falls, N.Y.:

Deborah Lee Updegrove Tipton, 45, a former Lockport resident and a Niagara County Community College and SUNY Brockport graduate who became a teacher in Asheville, N. C.,, is appealing her child pornography sentence on the grounds that it is excessive.
Tipton was sentenced last month to 18 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges related to child pornography. Her appeal was filed on Oct. 2 with the United States Court of Appeals.
The original case against Tipton stemmed from charges that she filmed videos of a nude 12-year-old girl and sent them via the internet to her boyfriend, Chadwick Hamby, of Hendersonville, N. C.,the former principal of the school where Tipton worked.
According to reports, Hamby, who seemed to be drifting from his seven year, adulterous relationship with Tipton, enjoyed sexual fantasies concerning animals and children.
Tipton, desperate to keep Hamby’s interest, according to testimony by an FBI special agent, introduced a then 11-year-old child into the couple’s chat room talks, and later created pornographic videos of a girl, nude in a shower, that featured her genitals.

That’s just a sample of stories — all from the past week — found by doing a Google News search on “teacher + child + pornography,” the same way a Google News search on “coach + cheerleader + rape” found multiple articles from recent months.

My apologies if this method of aggregation may create unfair suspicion, but the world is full of freaky creepazoids nowadays, and there are certainly ample grounds for suspicion, fair or not.

  1. How dare you treat school coaches and teachers as if they were Catholic priests? The media has reported that priests committing criminal acts were a systemic problem while similar behavior by any educator should be treated as an isolated case having no relationship to any other such case.

  2. The incidence of abuse by public school employees is significantly greater than abuses in the Catholic church, another significantly under-reported story:

    Hamby, who seemed to be drifting from his seven year, adulterous relationship with Tipton, enjoyed sexual fantasies concerning animals and children.

    This man was a SCHOOL PRINCIPAL and Tipton was so desperate to maintain his romantic interest that she PRODUCED CHILD PORN VIDEOS just to keep him.

    That’s a special kind of crazy there . . .

But, of course, if the logic that Catholic priests abusing children is an indictment of the system, the priesthood, and the Church is accurate, then what our host has dredged up — and I believe that “dredge up” is exactly the right term to use — should be an indictment of the educational system, of teachers, and of the National Education Association. Oddly enough, I haven’t seen The Philadelphia Inquirer make that argument yet, but I’m sure it will come soon.

And somehow, some way, the professional media, as always eager to link such things to institutions and beliefs they don’t like, failed to note that the the child sexual abuse amongst Catholic priests was homosexual sexual abuse; 80.9% of the victims were boys, but, oddly enough, the media never considered that the problem might be homosexuality rather than the priesthood.

  7. Of the five cases which our host listed which indicated the sex of both the teacher and the victims, three were heterosexual and two were homosexual. It might be argued that five is too small a sample size on which to draw any conclusions, but 40% of the pornography being homosexual as far as the adult perpetrator is concerned represents a far greater percentage of the cases than the proportion of homosexuals in the population.

  8. I think it would be money well spent to create some charter schools where these kinds of educators & students like Kate Hunt can be put in one school. Let the students of any age have sex with each other (straight or gay or bi, or whatever), let the educators in on the action too. Also the parents, bus drivers, custodians, etc. Let the public at large in for a fee – wouldn’t need to have Parent Teacher Organization fundraisers.

  9. Thanks for pointing this out. People seem to be conveniently unaware that the problem within the Catholic church is predominantly of a homosexual nature.

    As it is with the BSA and scouting organizations globally, as it is becoming in schools, as it is within the military.

    Where there is fire, there is a homosexual.

  18. Someone once asked Slick Willie Sutton, the bank robber, why he robbed banks. The question might have uncovered a tale of injustice and lifelong revenge. Maybe a banker foreclosed on the old homestead, maybe a banker’s daughter spurned Sutton for another.

    The only thing that keeps those with a pedophilia sexual orientation (or is it disorder? I’m confused now) in check is the cultural, moral and legal boundaries we have in place.     What an idiot. People just love to cover up sexual abuse or exploitation with this “you’re going to taint them all” excuse. The more people are aware of the potential danger of sexual harm in any profession, the more they will be able to protect youngsters and adults.

    This is like the disgusting propaganda line that liberals love to use to cover up homosexual and bisexual abuse: “homosexuality has nothing to do with pedophilia” – except it does every time it does. There are plenty of homosexuals and bisexuals who exploit or abuse youngsters and it doesn’t taint the little repugnant gays to make people aware of it. On the contrary, it protects potential victims and it aids real victims.
    However, liberals will throw all children under the bus in their fanatical attempt to normalize homosexuality, given their twisted priorities.

  24. And there is another question: how often are they surrounded by profoundly cowardly or other perverted adults? That is, in many cases, predators are being enabled and supported by one or more adults around them who know or suspect something is going on. And then you have the kind of person who is a pile of dung (like a partner/spouse) who chooses to be blind and not to know – on purpose.
    And yet – many states still do not have mandatory reporting laws! A great example of the terrible harm that apathy can do in a society.

    The APA and liberals promote every type of adult sexual harassment and unwanted same-sex advances by homosexuals and bisexuals by telling people that having homosexual desires is natural.
    And all of it is categorized as “sexual orientation” and given the corrupt stamp of approval of normality by the APA.

  27. Yes, it’s true that they talk about them more – which is good. And, it’s also true that nowadays, they also tell everyone they are just little victims fighting for their civil rights of equality, if they are have a perverted mind towards people of the same sex – which is bad.

  30. And yet the so-called “civil rights issue of our time” (vomit) is not dealing with child abuse and children’s completely trampled over rights, but normalizing every type of sexual perversion and dysfunction in the name of equality, namely for the LGBT crowd.
    A perfect symbol of the corrupt priorities of liberals. Perhaps the most horrible problem in society, violence against children, is not *the* rights issue of our times, but shouting that every pervert is normal, somehow is.
    On that note, I am glad that more socons are speaking up against factory farming and animal abuse.

  31. don’t forget: bisexuals are just as turdy and criminal – and most are married, and conveniently use their “married” appearance as an alibi against sexual harassment or abuse accusations, when it refers to a victim of the same sex.

Well, that’s just it: people have a natural tendency to excuse or look the other way or somehow ignore what they know or suspect from their family and friends; “Oh, Uncle Bob, he couldn’t really have done that; it was just some kind of misunderstanding.” Jerry Sandusky got away with his crimes because he was a well-known, and well-liked man in the community, while his victims were just nameless kids.

    And it isn’t just sexual abuse that is treated that way; people tend to look the other way when their co-workers are stealing from the company, just as one example, even though not reporting such theft often places the people who looked the other way in as much career jeopardy as the thief himself. This kind of thing happens all the time.
