Shorter Jeremy Hammond: ‘Blame Bush!’

First, from the Justice Department Web site:

Jeremy Hammond Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For
Hacking Into The Stratfor Website And Other Company,
Federal, State, And Local Government Websites

Defendant and Others Disclosed Sensitive Information
About Thousands of Innocent Individuals

Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that JEREMY HAMMOND, a/k/a “Anarchaos,” was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to 10 years in prison in connection with his role in, among other hacks, the December 2011 hack of Strategic Forecasting, Inc. (“Stratfor”), a global intelligence firm in Austin, Texas, that affected hundreds of thousands of victims, including employees and subscribers. HAMMOND was also sentenced in connection with his involvement in multiple additional hacks, including computer intrusions into the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Virtual Academy, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, and the Jefferson County, Alabama, Sheriff’s Office. HAMMOND pled guilty in May 2013, and was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska. . . .

Seems straightforward enough, right? Hammond had a previous federal conviction for hacking the site of Protest Warrior and, because this exploit with “Anonymous” was therefore his second conviction, he was obviously going to do some serious time.

But it was for The Cause, which means that the  criminal had to strike a pose as a Heroic Victim and, at his sentencing hearing Friday, Hammond delivered a lecture to the court that included this:

The acts of civil disobedience and direct action that I am being sentenced for today are in line with the principles of community and equality that have guided my life. I hacked into dozens of high profile corporations and government institutions, understanding very clearly that what I was doing was against the law, and that my actions could land me back in federal prison. But I felt that I had an obligation to use my skills to expose and confront injustice — and to bring the truth to light. . . .
My introduction to politics was when George W. Bush stole the Presidential election in 2000, then took advantage of the waves of racism and patriotism after 9/11 to launch unprovoked imperialist wars against Iraq and Afghanistan. I took to the streets in protest naively believing our voices would be heard in Washington and we could stop the war. Instead, we were labeled as traitors, beaten, and arrested. . . .

There you go, the criminal’s creed: Blame Bush!

  1. I know, right? But I’ve explained before how a certain slice of the Moonbat Left (including Roger Shuler) are trapped in the past:

The circumstances of Bush’s 2000 election — the contested Florida vote and the Supreme Court ruling that decided it — drove a lot of Democrats crazy. Claims that the election was “stolen,” and that Bush was “selected not elected,” tainted his presidency as illegitimate in the eyes of many liberals, and subsequent events confirmed their opinion that there was something inherently fraudulent and corrupt about the Republican who occupied the White House for eight years. There was the 9/11 attack (an “inside job,” conspiracy theorists insisted) followed by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Along the way, in the 2002 mid-term election, Republicans shocked everyone by gained enough seats to take control of the Senate, so that the entire political apparatus in Washington was in GOP hands. Even the judicial branch, liberals believed, was tainted by Bushism because of the conservative majority on the Supreme Court that had declared him the winner of the 2000 election. Anti-war activists marched in the streets screaming “No war for oil!” while on the Internet, conspiracy theorists ranted about Dick Cheney and Halliburton as the villains of the melodrama. When Bush was re-elected in 2004, liberal blogs overflowed with claims that Republicans had cheated, rigging voting machines in Ohio to defraud Democrat John Kerry of victory.

They may have been crazy before, but once they contracted Bush Derangement Syndrome, their madness was incurable.

  2. The only upside I can see to having nothing but effete, treacherous Republicans is there’s never any blame the Left can believably ascribe to them. All they’ll ever have is Bush. So at the current steady rate of intellectual decline, in 10 years the conversation will go,

40 year old lib: “This is all Bush’s fault!”

    20 year old kid: “Who?”

  3. And his tirade blaming our last real President reduced his sentence by how much again? 😆

Perhaps he can share a cell with that other, oh-so-noble warrior, Bradley Manning?

  4. Oh, believe me, I use Mr Manning’s real first name quite deliberately. I refuse to accept the cockamamie assertion that he’s really a woman. He has XY chromosomes, a (doubtlessly small) penis and (probably atrophied) testicles; it would take a liberal or an idiot — please, pardon the redundancy — to think that he is a girl.

He is unquestionably male . . . which is not to say that he’s actually a man.

  5. Yeah, better to let the US military at the behest of oil companies and other conglomerates turn the middle east into a slaughterhouse.

  6. They’re still better people than anyone from that administration or representative of conservatism in general.

  7. Bigot. Why is it so difficult for you to accept other people’s differences and choices? And why is the hallmark of all right wingers a rigid, petty, narrow mindedness? It’s not a good quality.

  8. Just so I’m clear. If someone decides they want us to call them something they are not, we should respect their decision.

If someone buys something we think is “substandard,” or that don’t consider things that are physically impossible, we should make laws against it.

  9. Again are you really so petty that if someone has sexual reassignment surgery and now want’s to live as a woman you’ll keep calling them a man? Did you really leave your brain back in the high school locker room? Amazing what a complete dickhead you are. And you wonder why people hate conservatives? YOU’RE ASSHOLES.
