How Much Do You Hate Commies?

Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Loan executes a Vietcong terrorist, February 1968.

Salon.com’s Jesse Myerson (@JAMyerson) says “misconceptions” about Communism are the real problem, although survivors who escaped Communist regimes might beg to disagree.

Personally, I think the main problem with Communism is that we haven’t shot enough evil lying Commie scum:

Five years after the Bolshevik Revolution, Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises predicted that the Soviet project was doomed to fail. In his classic work Socialism, Mises explained that the attempt to replace the market system with central economic planning could not succeed, because the planners could not possibly have the information necessary to make all the decisions which, in a market economy, are made by individuals whose needs and desires are reflected in prices: “The problem of economic calculation is the fundamental problem of Socialism.”
“Everything brought forward in favour of Socialism during the last hundred years,” Mises wrote in 1922, “in thousands of writings and speeches, all the blood which has been spilt by the supporters of Socialism, cannot make Socialism workable. …. Socialist writers may continue to publish books about the decay of Capitalism and the coming of the socialist millennium; they may paint the evils of Capitalism in lurid colours and contrast with them an enticing picture of the blessings of a socialist society; their writings may continue to impress the thoughtless — but all this cannot alter the fate of the socialist idea.”
Undeterred by Mises’ criticism, the Soviet Union spent the next seven decades proving his prediction correct. By the time the Communist utopia collapsed in bankruptcy and disgrace, it seemed that everyone with two eyes and a brain understood the lesson: The Marxist-Leninist project was a complete failure and, as historians documented in The Black Book of Communism, tens of millions of people had died for this mistake, deliberately starved or slaughtered by totalitarian Communist governments.
The persistence of Marxist-Leninist regimes in Pyongyang and Havana notwithstanding, socialism has been utterly discredited in exactly the way Mises prophesied in 1922. . . .

Read the whole thing at The American Spectator. It’s already a Memeorandum thread, linked by Instapundit and Patterico — thanks! — and to answer the question, “How much do you hate Commies?”

Probably not as much as you should.

  1. No, she’s always had a bug up her butt about modern agriculture, “modern” defined as anything after 1812 or so…

  2. Wealth is a combination of knowledge and capital.

If the knowledge is separate from the capital, or the capital from the knowledge, the wealth no longer exists.

  3. I was a little unsure myself what “it” referred to in your first sentence, but I presumed “it” was Myerson’s piece, not our host’s.

  4. India is hardly an example of a “capitalist country”. Are you really that ignorant? It was heavily socialist – run by an avowedly socialist party since independance.. Only recently have a Hindu nationalist party with a platform of increasing capitalism in India has been in charge. They have very slowly reduced the socialist bureacratic impediments to business.

You really are utterly clueless aren’t you?

And Rwanda? What the hell does that have to do with US capitalism? It wasn’t a US colony at any time, we didn’t occupy it or run it.

You just pull utter nonsense out of you backside.

  5. my brother-in-law the Wall Street gold macher’s wealth does pretty damn good no matter which way the msrket goes. He has a pretty good idea where that ‘destroyed’ wealth ends up.

  6. When she first showed-up here, Alessandra appeared to be making very good points about the insidiousness of the homosexual movement and it’s evil aims, but then she showed herself to be an irrational rabid zealot about it, willing to believe every single claim made against Homosexuality, even if the sources had been discredited.

So too with ‘Socialism: Organized Evil’ who has allowed his or her mask to droop a bit so that we can see the tell-tale markings of a White Supremacist.

  7. Charlie Sheen was “fired” from his job, given $25 million in severance pay, and retains all his syndication piece of the seasons he was on. Maybe he wasn’t “winning,” but it would pass for it in most places.

  8. The difference is that where children may rarely starve to death in a capitalist country, it is never due to the economic system and always due to the criminal negligence of their caretakers. Children were intentionally starved to death under Stalin and Mao, as a tool of the communist system to eliminate dissent.

  9. Indian “capitalism” is distorted by their bureaucracy – the “Raj” was originally a holdover structure from British governance, but was rapidly corrupted. It can take years for permission to upgrade the equipment in a factory, and a decade or more to gain approval for a new one to be built. Along the way, everyone gets a bribe.

That ain’t “capitalism.” Well, maybe as Democrats see it.

  11. I wonder if there’s some genetic defect that attracts people to Communism. And I wonder, “if we killed a whole lot of them, could we eradicate it?”
An interesting hypothesis…and one I would like to test.

  12. Calvinists don’t dispute the existence of free will. They recognize that human “free” will is limited to the extent that Man’s nature is depraved. Read Luther’s “The Bondage of the Will.”

  13. Using another computer…

I’m not contending that the starvation of one child by individual miscreants is comparable to the starvation and execution of a hundred children by deliberate policy.

I’m checking to see if you have it in you to condemn a certain evil as evil.

  14. Tell than to Demonrats, they are still pushing communism but only because they don’t care about anything or anyone but their own power, they are living in the here and now, the destruction comes long after they spent other people’s money for their lifestyles, Dems are evil evil people
