‘This Is a Tragedy in the Family’: @Belle_Knox’s Horrible Disgrace

Army physician Dr. Kevin Weeks returns home from deployment in Afghanistan to learn that his youngest daughter Miriam has become notorious as the Duke University porn star “Belle Knox”:

Amanda Minor, the mother-in-law of Miriam’s brother Paul, told MailOnline: ‘This is a tragedy in the family. The father is one of the best human beings I’ve ever met. He is just back from Afghanistan; he served his country, how awesome is that?
‘He’s so proud of his daughter; there’s no way they could have known this was going on. It’s terrible. . . . This is a nightmare what the family are going through.’ . . .

You can read the whole embarrassing thing.

Remember that this is what the freshman Women’s Studies major calls “empowerment.” Miriam Weeks probably feels extra empowered now that both the New York Post and NewsMax are also on the story.

  1. Not 100% buying it. Don’t know the guy of course but girls typically don’t become screen whores by accident. I would bet decent money something nasty happened in her past to mess her up.

  2. It appears from the article that she’s a liar, too. First, blame the folks, then backpedal and blame Duke. Also lies about financial aid. If you attend an expensive school (which I did), low cost loans will not cover most of your expenses – you have to take out higher interest loans, which are available to students in her family’s financial demographic. She chose not to. I don’t view her as a victim or a heroine.

What will be interesting is how her family, who by this account seem to be practicing Catholics, will interact with her. Love the sinner, hate the sin. If I were in their shoes, and I recognize that I’m not, I would love her and welcome her home, but there would be ground rules. For example, since she is clearly able to take such good care of herself and is so empowered and happy, I would cease paying for any tuition. She would not be allowed younger children, unsupervised. Why? She says she started viewing porn at 11, and just loved it and doesn’t see any problems with her lifestyle. Not an influence I want around younger kids. Loving your child doesn’t mean you are required to subsidize their bad decisions.

  3. One small thing we could all do would be to stop calling these people “stars.” How many porn trash have ever, really, attained a level of success that could even remotely be called stardom?

  4. Question: is there really much difference between Miriam Weeks and Lena Dunham? Other than money and double dates with the Prez?

  5. Uhhh, have you actually seen Lena Dunham?

Actually, Miss Dunham does have some talent, kind of like Amanda Marcotte has writing talent, that some people enjoy, and for which they are able to make some money. Miss Dunham could probably do her show without being naked half the time, though she chooses differently, and her on-screen sex is (supposedly) simulated. She’d be more properly compared to a stripper than a porn star.

But if she wanted to do real porn, I’m guessing that there wouldn’t be much of an audience.

  6. Well, a few have, and those who don’t probably hope that their porn careers wind up unnoticed and unconnected to their “real” lives as possible.

  7. I wonder if we’ll see any “Her father disapproves of her porn work because he’s repressed/part of the patriarchy” editorials from the “feminist” crowd…

  8. 50 years old and the old man has zero equity in his half million dollar home…more debt to get the little darling a women’s studies degree. She’s obviously been taught to live above her means.

How is she going to do this when she’s all used up, as 25 in porn star years is like 50 in people years. I sense suicide in her future.

  9. It is always tempting to speculate on the circumstances and history which lead to this sort of thing. At some point, one’s children become adults and begin making their own decisions and those decisions (not the individual) must be judged. Ms. Weeks is not the first child to go astray, the quality of her upbringing notwithstanding. She may be an adult, but her decisions do not bespeak an adult level of maturity.

It is, however, distressing to see people suggest that somehow the cost of her education was/is a contributing factor to her decision. I find that disingenuous in the extreme. We all have wants, and by definition those wants are infinite. Resources, however, are not. Based solely on Ms. Weeks’s own words, she seems to believe that her desires are an entitlement, justifying any action deemed necessary to fulfill those desires. Thus, she attends Duke at a cost to her/her family exceeding $40,000 per year instead of attending Vanderbilt for free. And that $40k per annum cost, in turn, justifies any action on her part. That way lies madness.

  10. You’re actually comparing Lena Dunham doing a nude scene on a show she writes, directs, and produces, to being a stripper? You rigid little prig. How much longer will it be until social conservatives are as dead as the dinosaurs? Another generation maybe? And for that I hope we keep producing more Dunham’s, and Belle Knox’s because it’s the death knell for your cause.

  11. I guess the other thing we’ll be taking to our graves is the esoteric knowledge that apostrophes are for possessives and not plurals.

  12. Aren’t you guys always telling everyone they have to “pay their own way” when it comes to schooling, medicine, etc.? Well, this is what paying your own way looks like sometimes, especially in a desperate economy like ours, that has almost no safety net, especially for young people. Your default response would to be to her to “get a job!”, well, it looks like she got one! Strangely you guys are arguing for more austerity, too. I guess we’ll be seeing a lot more college girl porn stars, drug dealers, and young women looking for sugar daddies to pay their freight. Guarantee Scandinavia doesnt have young women doing porn or hooking to pay for an education, but of course they’re commies, and we’re a civilized nation. Right….

  13. Oh, look. You’re back and still refusing to deal with the issue of refusing a free education at Vanderbilt in favor of $160k outlay for Duke. How obtaining an offer of a full scholarship at a top 20 national university and then rejecting it is society’s fault is not clear to any rational person. Ms. Weeks is the one who insists that porn is necessary for her to obtain an education, an assertion which according to her own words is a lie.

And BTW, I quite familiar with those European systems to which you refer. Indeed, a university education is taxpayer supported. It’s also limited to a very small portion of the population. In Germany, for example, one’s career prospects are determined at age 10, based solely upon one’s academic achievement and tests, without regard to one’s background or demographic. So, if you want that system, fine. I’m all in.

But instead, we have an immoral system which allows everyone–regardless of his/her abilities or chance for success, to attend a college and which, thanks to government control of student loans which are nondischargable, thanks to a Democrat controlled Congress some years back, and which are bestowed upon Universities and colleges without regard to whether the students actually get any value for the money spent, while administrators live high on the hog at the expense of students and on the taxpayer’s nickel.

  14. “At some point, one’s children become adults and begin making their own decisions and those decisions (not the individual) must be judged.”

Exactly. When I was a teenage hellion in the 1970s, chasing the sex, drugs and rock-and-roll lifestyle, this was something my father adamantly opposed, and certainly he felt that it reflected poorly on the family.

All parents — all good parents, anyway — take pride in their children’s achievements, and feel some sense of responsibility and shame if their children should fail. A desire to please one’s parents, to be an honor to the family name, is therefore a motive to good conduct.

The rebellious child — such as I was, and as Miriam Weeks now is — selfishly disdains parental advice, eschews considerations of family honor, and goes the way of the Prodigal Son. Well, as Ben Franklin said, experience keeps a dear school, but a fool will learn in no other. And boy, did I learn mine.

Unfortunately for Miriam Weeks, the feminist movement justifies her rebellion as “empowerment.” It’s a terrible thing to tell young people that their vices are rights.

  15. It is worth mentioning in this context, that the Progressive Left works tirelessly to eliminate the concept of family honor by doing everything in it’s power to destroy the Family as an institution. It goes back to the “don’t trust anyone over 30” trope of the Sixties. As you point out, making one’s parents proud and avoiding shaming them is an effective restraint upon behavior. When that’s eliminated, all behavior is permissible, under the extraordinarily permissive and accommodating regime of “Daddy Government.”

  16. Frugality and humility as virtues which, like the virtues of chastity and modesty, Miriam Weeks scorns. Someone pointed out that she turned down a full ride to Vanderbilt (ranked #17 nationwide) in order to attend Duke (ranked #7). In other words, a Top 20 school wasn’t good enough for her, she had to have a Top 10 school — no humility. And it is this less-than-frugal decision which imposed the higher cost that she uses as an excuse for her porn career. Yet the little narcissist tries to shift the blame to her parents and to Duke, so as to protect the myth of her own blamelessness.

  17. Let’s read between the lines. She got a full ride to Vanderbilt; her parents probably told her that they were willing to pay $X for school, which would have covered Vandy but not Duke. She chose Duke anyway, and her parents won the game of chicken by not cutting tuition checks. A desperate Miriam then turned to selling her body to stay at Duke. (The Vany scholarship is probably gone by now.)

  18. Who made it possible for those Euro trash to have an experiment (now seen to be a failure) in socialism? WE DID. Good ols American boys and girls serving their country which provided the security for those nations to experiment. If they had paid for their own security during the cold war and beyond, their experimant would never have been attempted. Precisely because we, through the expenditure of treasure and the time out of our servicemembers lives, protected them is why they could play about with socialism and nihilism it’s natural outgrowth. 28 years of the draft and 30 years of the volunteer military has covered Europes ass. Now that Barack has pushed socialist experimentation to America, who is going to step up and protect us? No damn body!

  19. My heart goes out to that family. All of them, including the daughter. This has got to be one horrible experience for them all.

  20. GetOffMyLawn obviously attended Duke.

A publicly-funded state school wouldn’t turn out something that dumb…

  21. So what is the result when we pander to their desires to be treated like an ’empowered’ feminist?

  22. I think most of us go through a rebellious phase of varying degrees. Thankfully social boundaries allow one to look back on that behavior with the better context of hindsight. I can’t recall anybody celebrating my behavior and I failed to make the global news.

With all this pandering empowerment, toleration and celebration bulls–t, all we do is reinforce bad behaviors. This is behavioral science 101. Society maintains laws and social and moral boundaries in order to subtly influence (manipulate) the masses towards behavior that is actually for the betterment of society.

We are now actively promoting and encouraging behaviors that will ultimately destroy society. Go figure.

  23. When Democrats are going down in flames, the media will flail about for anything else to report.

  24. So, it is your position, I take it, that we should honor this young lady for her job choices? Well, perhaps: it’s true, I suppose, that she wasn’t on welfare, and I’m happy enough about that.

But it’s also true that the choices people take continue to impact them throughout their lives. She might have lived poorer had she been a waitress, but she wouldn’t be facing a complete career dead-end now that she’s known.

  25. This girl has very receded gums for an 18 year old–she is literally ‘long in the tooth’.
    I’m suspecting meth.

  26. If the girl started viewing porn at 11, that’s not good but it didn’t turn her into a porn whore. Kids today find that stuff on their own. You may think you have “parental controls” but you don’t control the computers at the library, and the Librarians Association won’t tolerate any filters. Or the kids have friends who can bypass controls.

They don’t all start making movies – although it certainly has contributed to an overall degrading of the culture.

I suspect she was subjected to some sort of abuse at a younger age. By whom and of what sort I have no idea. But she didn’t wake up at 18 a porn whore. She was groomed for the role.

Kaitlyn Hunt’s victim is a victim because she was 14. We don’t know what happened to Weeks, or when. If Hunt’s victim grows up and at 18 does lesbian porn, did she go from victim to perp overnight? I don’t believe Weeks did, either.

  27. Best thing to do for Miriam is to pray for her. She’s looking for love in all the wrong places and although considers herself very spiritual seems to have lost connection with her Roman Catholic roots, There’s a wealth of beautiful, spiritual material in the Roman Catholic Church that is empowering, and spiritually enriching including works by Francois Fenelon, Brother Lawrence, Saint Therese of Lisieux, Julian of Norwich and St. Faustina to name a few.

  28. Yes. That is very compassionate of you. It must be terrible for her family and I can’t believe Miriam actually likes the notoreity. That’s one reason why she didn’t want to be identified by her own name. I think deep down it is shameful for her to admit that she does this. Denial isn’t a river in Egypt.

  29. We don’t know what other assets Dad may have. The starter home could be owned outright and have been converted into an income property, etc…

  30. If I were betting money on it, I think your statement is the one to bet on. Watching that stuff may mess up a lot of relationships (because of the expectations aspect), but to blame her teen “stardom” on it is bogus. Someone talked her into it, and that someone recognized the type.

And “the type” is not merely a chick who puts out. There’s a lot more willingness to accept abuse, even if it’s all under the guise of role playing.

  31. I thought the same thing. I had to wonder why anyone would do meth, especially when you see what it does to people. But one reported effect is heightened sexual something or other (I don’t even know what). It’s like the worst possible drug for people with “issues.”

  32. “It’s a terrible thing to tell young people that their vices are rights.”

And the fact that it’s done for political purposes just underscores the fact that it’s pure child abuse.
