“The problem with socialism is, sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.” Venezuela is learning that lesson the hard way.

Typically South American leftists don’t quote Margaret Thatcher, but they should. But then they wouldn’t be leftists (although they probably would be happier).

Give props to Hugo Chavez: not just anyone can take a major petroleum exporting nation and turn it into Venezuela!

All those poor people who kept Chavez in office (until he had enough power to make sure of it) can rest assured. .

They may stand in line and be rationed for water, milk, flour, and toilet paper, but at least the Glorious Leadership still lives in luxury as they attempt to match the $2 billion “estate” Chavez left.

And Hugo Chavez could be reached, but declined to comment.

He was a genius, all right. Came into office on a military salary, and saved enough to leave a $2 billion estate behind.

Now that is some shrewd investing! Too bad he didn’t manage the state’s finances as well as he did his own.

Regarding his luck with investing: I hear he got advice from Hillary back in the 90’s.

Well, there is a similarity. Hillary’s “luck” came by brokers illegally “parking” and “commingling” her investment until it could be switched out for the real money used for profitable trades.

Chavez’ “parking” involved backing up trucks to the loading docks behind the major banks, and taking the national reserves for his own.

Well…since as Gertrude Stein said ‘*a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose*’, I would assume parking is parking is parking.

Further, per Billy Shakes, parking by any other name would smell as rotten; it stinketh much liketh the Thames at low tide.
