When I describe radical feminism as taught in university Women’s Studies programs, one typical reaction is, “So what? That’s just a bunch of academics. Besides, wait until those idiots get their Women’s Studies degrees. Where are they gonna get a job?”
Maybe your child’s school. Katherine Timpf reports at National Review:
A Nebraska school district has instructed its teachers to stop referring to students by “gendered expressions” such as “boys and girls,” and use “gender inclusive” ones such as “purple penguins” instead.
“Don’t use phrases such as ‘boys and girls,’ ‘you guys,’ ‘ladies and gentlemen,’ and similarly gendered expressions to get kids’ attention,” instructs a training document given to middle-school teachers at the Lincoln Public Schools.
“Create classroom names and then ask all of the ‘purple penguins’ to meet on the rug,” it advises.
The document also warns against asking students to “line up as boys or girls,” and suggests asking them to line up by whether they prefer “skateboards or bikes/milk or juice/dogs or cats/summer or winter/talking or listening.”
“Always ask yourself . . . ‘Will this configuration create a gendered space?’” the document says.
The instructions were part of a list called “12 steps on the way to gender inclusiveness” developed by Gender Spectrum, an organization that “provides education, training and support to help create a gender sensitive and inclusive environment for children of all ages.”
Read the whole thing. You might also want to read the Gender Spectrum guidelines. Readers will perhaps not be surprised to learn that Gender Spectrum founder Stephanie Brill is author of The Queer Parent’s Primer and The New Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth, and co-author of The Transgender Child: A Handbook for Families and Professionals. In a 2010 interview, Brill said: “As a part of the butch/trans community, my social and professional world is very gender diverse.” So at least she practices what she preaches, eh?
The point is that this kind of radicalism can’t be contained to college campuses. Inevitably, the feminists who learn “gender theory” in Women’s Studies programs will want to implement those theories throughout society, including your local public schools — even in Nebraska! As I have previously explained (“Radical Lesbian Feminism: Coming Soon to a Public School Classroom Near You?”), the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is pushing to introduce “gender studies” to the high school curriculum, “creating innovative spaces for young people to engage in feminism and activism, equity, and social justice in today’s classrooms.” The AAUW symposium on this program featured lesbian teacher Ileana Jimenez.

The hashtag #IDG2014 is for “International Day of the Girl” and, when you see radical feminists declaring how “committed to culture change” they are, doesn’t this make you just slightly curious as to what direction they intend to change culture?

What we need in our public schools is not gender studies but to include evolutionary biology and especially sexual selection and how it creates sexual dimorphism in mammals. Once pupils understand the basics of such things they will forever remain immune to gender theory
The notion of “human uniformity” is perhaps the most important idea of both marxism and today’s liberalism.
Oh for the good ole days when gender was all about nouns and verbs matching up
Where the word gender was reinvented http://web.archive.org/web/20050802105953/http://www.infocirc.org/rollston.htm
Get em while they’re young…
In the way, way back, I taught college courses in a foreign language, which language included gendered nouns. The very first day of the introductory course included an admonition not to try to guess the gender based upon sex, i.e. male v. female v. neutral. Such an approach was doomed to fail.
You may recall a couple of decades ago, the movement to declare certain linguistic expression as “sexist.” It didn’t last long, because even female, feminist linguists called B.S.
It is the desire to indoctrinate our children with this sort of crap which, in part, explains the educational establishment’s antipathy to homeschooling and parochial education. People are removing their children from public schools in droves. Yes, they’ll pay their taxes, but they won’t vote for tax increases for public schools, preferring to save their money for homeschooling curricula or parochial school tuition. In many states, funding is based in part on the number of student butts in the seats. Each defection from the public schools means less money for teachers, teachers’ unions, and programs such as the one described by our host.
My youngest child will escape this madness. I fear for my grandchildren. The state cannot abide a refusal to submit. See, e.g. Connecticut’s war on homeschoolers, speciously attributed to Adam Lanza. It will become increasingly difficult and then impossible to rear your own children the way you wish. It’s only a matter of time, unless drastic steps are taken now.
Tammy Tibbetts @tammytibbetts “Thank you @feministteacher for inviting @cjbrandt & I to speak to your smart #HSFeminism class for #DayoftheGirl”
Forget feminism and learn basic grammar: CJ Brandt and me, not CJ Brandt and I.
“Create classroom names and then ask all of the ‘purple penguins’ to meet on the rug,”
So they can’t even call them children?
Lunacy. The difference between colleges and schools is that, for the most part, kids MUST go to school whereas colleges are optional. If you want to attend something as idiotic as gender studies (ie: feminist ideology indoctrination) in a voluntary college, then it’s your money and time to waste. But in schools… absolutely not. Marxist ideology is not going to be forced down my kinds throats.
I don’t disagree about the danger of all this, and where it’s heading, but as a popular radiohost asked yesterday, “what are you going to do about it?” No one does anything and that’s why the “agenda” continues its long march forward.
Actually an increasing number of people are objecting to this sort of thing and we are doing something about it. We are fighting entrenched and well funded opponents though, so progress is slow.
THIS.
What’s wrong with identifying them as animals. There ain’t nothing unique about us.
Take your kids out. There is no excuse. “I don’t have the time or money.” Bullshit.
Get rid of cable TV. Get a smaller house. Buy used cars. Save and scrimp where you can and use that money to save your children.
For years, I’ve been preaching to members of my congregation of Christians: The public schools of 40 years ago do not exist. They are factories for a progressive, atheistic and controlled populace. They are gone. Done. The only hope for your own children is to remove them.
Now.
Just saying that the other radical folks in the world have already started that equivalency. http://www.peta.org/blog/rat-pig-dog-boy/
“women’s studies” is a repellant bit of patronage for people who have no business being in academe. The thing is, 99% of the student body ignores it. It’s a supply-side phenomenon. One institution I knew well handed out shy of 700 arts-and-sciences diplomas in a given year. The mean number of women’s studies majors in these cohorts was 2.
Unless this is an odd one-off, the origins of this mess would not be the women’s studies program (which is in the arts and sciences faculty) but in the teacher training faculty, which is commonly a collecting pool of pseudo-academics and sectaries. Here and there on such faculties you can find a capable psychologist or historian and perhaps some practical courses on the mechanics of teaching. However, the whole business is 50% vanilla ice cream, 50% manure; it tastes more like one than the other. Cleaning up teacher training programs should be a priority and one in which state legislature should not be shy about.
Only when hetero-males become a small persecuted minority in the US, will women than start demanding that the “perversions and manufactured statistics Alliances”… that have poisoned American law enforcement to persecute and Inflame the public against them….be lifted immediately.
One side’s pushing “creationism” while the other pushes this nonsense. Oy Vey.
So why did the right wing not do this? Why was there no incentive for them to get jobs at teachers, administrators or text book authors? Why was the entirety of education surrendered to the left without a fight?
It’s now too late to fix it, I fear.
So we must all become insane so that the insane no longer feel insane?
I have read that France is not so welcoming to American gender-theory…Is this true???
The Adam Lanza thing is typical leftist insanity.
They tell us that school shootings are an “epidemic” – so much so that we need metal detectors and cops in the schools; we need to punish children who bite a pop tart into the shape of a gun.
But how is Adam Lanza’s home-schooling connected to this? How is it that school shootings are an epidemic, yet only ONE shooter is home schooled? All the others actually attended the schools where they shot people.
So how could Lanza represent any sort of “worrying trend,” being that he’s the only one of his kind?
Talk about Reality completely eluding the left! They can’t bear to refer to “boys” and “girls” – things which ACTUALLY EXIST – and instead opt for the imaginary: “purple penguins.”
Since when do middle school kids “gather on the rug”? And I, at least, can easily imagine the howls of mirth that would follow upon being referred to as “Purple Penguins” or any other idiocy. To say nothing of the eye-rolling. The room would sound like a bowling alley.
Aside from the fact that this is just idiotic, it’s insulting. No kid – even the ones who do suffer from “gender confusion” – likes being treated like some sort of cretinous delinquent who can’t deal with reality.
[…] Stacy McCain: […]
The “right-wing” was ignored. Stuff like this has been an issue all my adult life and educrats didn’t want to hear from anyone that might actually know something.
To be a cretinous delinquent requires a at least a BA in Gender/Womyn’s studies.
How do the black penguins feel about the purple ones getting the privileged treatment?
I dunno.
I think it has to do with the left making it a mission to get jobs in education and the right not bothering, opting instead for
“nuts and bolts” professions.
The left went out with a sense of duty and a goal (which we’re seeing come to fruition now).
It’s not illegal to be a communist or to have crazy beliefs about gender. Nor is it illegal to get a job as a teacher. So they put those two things together and made things happen.
The purple ones will have to “check their privilege!”
Sadly the right has its own brand of lunatics, namely the bible-thumping creationists. Since they deny evolution altogether there was no push to include such things at school. Hence we are were we are today.
Further more teaching is less rewarding financially than other fields for the same amount of college investment. Also teacher tend to come from the lower academic achievement levels.
But isn’t “International Day Of The Girl” creating a gendered space?
Silly leftists, creating a dogma that even a six-year-old can see right through.
Lanza’s homeschooling was for a very brief time period and if memory serves was in large part due to his inability to function in a public school setting.
Besides, she can’t even use “I” and “me” properly.
Exactly. Today is good. Sign them out and never take ’em back.
For pity’s sake, you know that logic and reason have no part in this discussion…
I denounce you and your hurtful, intolerant logic.
As a part of the butch/trans community, my social and professional world is very gender diverse.
Seems like gender diversity is just a part of life (unless you go to Smith College). How about diversity of thought, though? I’ll bet she doesn’t know a single born-again Christian, either personally or professionally.
We all goofed. We Knew that the dumbest college students were going into education but figured that as long as they were at least a millimeter smarter than the students that everything would be alright. Boy were we wrong. These marxist morons and their warped ideas now infest the halls of academe like cockroaches in the White House.
All of this Genderal Confusion is about survival. Even a generous counting the LGBTQWHATTHEHELLWASTHAT puts that whole spectrum of humanity(?) at 6% or less of the population. As an objectively significant portion of population they are irrelevant. That fact constitutes an existential threat to their existence at least theoretically. Therefore their survival strategy through the culture generally and the schools particularly is recruitment and 2nd tolerance if necessary mandatory tolerance. It is only by increasing their numbers or gaining the forbearance if not enthusiastic tolerance of a significant portion of the 94% non-watchmacallit population can they insure their survival.
Is this real?

Both the major teachers unions are comprised of something like 80% women. Women tend to be liberal, after all, the Republicans are at “war” with women.
This is why legitimate jobs are being off shored left and right. Because we expend so many resources on idiocy like this.
Great…we teach our young to play pronoun games versus anything of actual value…
It’s breaking. All of it. Everything. Who is breaking it? The ideologues who spread their poison and those who stand by while they do it.
So…you get what you beg for, want it or not. Enjoy your dog turd. That’s about all that will still come out right, in the end.
Those who can, do.
Those who can’t, teach.
It’s not illegal to be a communist… -there’s part of the problem. Communism should have been illegal because it advocates the overthrow of government of The United States. The First Amendment is not a suicide wish.
I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating. I worked a regular full job while I homeschooled. Homeschool hours do not have to be the same time or days as public school. School is when you say it is.
You can buy curriculum including books, worksheets, tests and teacher’s editions. I got all mine used at homeschooler exchanges, then resold when I was done. I’m sure I didn’t spend more than $200 on curriculum across the entire time I homeschooled my two kids. You’d spend that on uniforms and special supplies every year on a single kid for public school.
Think you’re not “smart enough”? Think again. The curriculum hand holds you if you want it to. Plus, all my curriculums were Christian and creationist, which worked well with our home training.
Oh, and prayer in school is allowed, and even encouraged, at your own homeschool.
p.s. My kids got into college with no problem.
So what “cow” came up with “purple penguins” ?
