    Making a black James Bond is just another stupid PC move. What they could do is make a black ’60s spy and bounce that around to address racial issues in a way that could be witty, funny and clever ala In the Heat of the Night as the spy finds different meanings to be black from Cairo to Rio to London to New York in little background noises to the story.

    But no, without imaginations, they’ll just plug a black guy in and leave him as nothing more than a Kiplingesque Hindu in a monocle who dreams of being a Scotsman. Somehow they think that’s a good role model, like the faithful Gunga Din maybe.

    I’ve seen Idris Elba in a number of roles and I think he’d do a good job, regardless of whether the studio is doing it for PC reasons. I’m less enthused about SLJ playing Nick Fury because he’s really playing Samuel L. Jackson while wearing Nick Fury’s clothes.

    No one’s questioning his talent – it’s the casting that’s moronic. And how was black Nick Fury leading Howling Commandos in WW II? Omar Sharif can play Dr. Zhivago but lord don’t let a white Russian play Omar Sharif. Why not just make Tarzan black, and Jane Eyre? How about Popeye the Sailor and Hernan Cortes? Lord Jim could be a HIndu with an all white cast from Borneo and with King Kong thrown in.
