‘Queer Youth of Color’

Verónica Bayetti Flores (@veroconplatanos) “has spent the last years of her life living and breathing reproductive justice. She has led national policy and movement building work on the intersections of immigrants’ rights, health care access, young parenthood, and LGBTQ liberation, and has worked to increase access to contraception and abortion, fought for paid sick leave, and demanded access to safe public space for queer youth of color. In 2008 Verónica obtained her Master’s degree in the Sexuality and Health program at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.” I’m sure “LGBTQ liberation” keeps her busy, but Verónica Bayetti Flores still finds time to write for Feministing.com:

For queer youth who know their rights in the face of a system that is killing them,
For women on government assistance who find joy in the news of pregnancy . . .
For those who dare to separate sexual pleasure and reproduction . . .
Your bodies, our bodies, are dangerous.
Your bodies are dangerous to the status quo. Your bodies bust through the armor of the gender binary and the patriarchy. Your bodies f–k up neoliberalism. Your bodies are ending white supremacy and heteropatriarchy. Your bodies are evidence that the colonial project has failed . . .
Your bodies are how the revolution begins.

“LGBTQ liberation” and “queer youth of color” is the feminist agenda in 2015. This was brought to my attention on Twitter by someone who thought “heteropatriarchy” was a new word I’d never encountered during my research into feminist theory.

Can someone explain to me how Verónica Bayetti Flores’s agenda of promoting homosexuality among minority youth is about “ending white supremacy” by beginning a “revolution” against “the colonial project”? Because a common-sense perspective might suppose that encouraging minorities to adopt the depraved perversity of our decadent elite would actually serve the interests of the elite. And if we learned that programs targeting black and Latino youth with this agenda are funded by major foundations with a record of supporting population control efforts aimed at the Third World? Well, I don’t suppose Verónica Bayetti Flores cares who is funding her “LGBTQ liberation” activism, but no honest person should be deceived about the real goals of this feminist agenda.

  1. Right because the best tactic for every small minority is to subsume your agenda into the agenda of an really tiny minority.

You can’t oppress people who have driven themselves into extinction.

  3. Oh, and she included a link to a poem by Audre Lorde. After reading it, I’m pretty sure Lorde thought she was a vampire.

  4. She seems to live in a “grand and glorious” head space that has much in common with suicidal religious zealotry. Folks like this are often tied less tightly to “what is” and keep their neurotransmitters flowing and showering with imaginaries. In the end, they can be highly destructive when they get a large following. Our job is to laugh at them so that they cannot be followed by people who can make a difference.

  5. I can’t see how it’s not, and I wonder what the parents think.

Also, their eyes – was that photoshop? *shudder*

  6. It ain’t about getting along with your neighbor, is it? Of course, neither was the uncivil rights movement.

  7. What I like most about this site, is that I can read and remark about the types of things that just aren’t discussed in polite company in my world—things that are disturbing beyond belief, and yet are very real and quite relevant… Hell, I wouldn’t discuss these things even with Mrs Z, FCOL!

I wish I could I tell my Real World acquaintances about these things, particularly those that are supportive of, or at best indifferent to, things like “gay rights”! i wonder how many of those people even realise this sort of madness is part of that deal…

  8. Geez louise… the huge challenge of the Eugenics movement has finally been met. The “problem” was always “how do we get the undesirable segments of our population to voluntarily stop breeding so that only good genes prevail without appearing hitleresque?”

  9. For women on government assistance who find joy in the news of pregnancy . . .

Which dovetails with your “Abortion Is A Feminist Sacrament” precisely how, especially given that said women are, by definition, victims of the Patriarchy?

For those who dare to separate sexual pleasure and reproduction . . .

Um, you’re a little late, Toots. I was in college in the late ’70s and ’80s. That train left the station with Griswold v. Connecticut..

Your bodies, our bodies, are dangerous.

    Try antibiotics.

  10. If it’s any consolation they aren’t getting anything they weren’t getting at home and, as a voluntary club, their parents are in control… unlike some program foisted on kids at public school against their parent’s wills.

  11. “I know, ’cause green is all about the environment and stuff, right? And, like, Soylent Green is so gonna stick it to The Man!”

  12. It’s like these freaks are some virus in a hot zone and all we do is watch it mutate into stupider and stupider strains

  13. I’ve talked to Mr. DM lots of times in the past about stuff I’m reading here, snd his eyes kind of glaze over. So now it’s like this:

Mr. DM: What are you up to, honey?

Me: I’m on TOM reading…hey!…where you going?

  14. For women on government assistance who find joy in the news of pregnancy . . .

You have to finish the sentence, thusly: “…because of the fact that her sugar daddy, Uncle Sam, has yet another mouth to feed.”

So, Verónica Bayetti Flores is a tool of the elite, and also a tool in the larger sense. But then, aren’t they all?

    Try antibiotics.

    Good one!

  15. Because of some gay relatives on Mrs Z’s side of the family, any mention of the relevant issues is cursory: such as “Do you think so-and-so and his partner will get ‘married’ now that it’s ‘legal’ now here?” The Eye Roll, The Frown, and The Silent END OF DISCUSSION look follows…

Right, then… Better get back to that leaky faucet! /Slinks away…

Mrs Z feels the same way I do, I’m sure, but she’s at best indifferent like most, and any real discussion is verboten!

Here at TOM, I find an outlet!

  16. Mrs. Z is lucky to have you, as you are willing to shut up and slink away so as not to be offensive to others and cause dissention in the family, which is, I think, the more loving approach. And certainly the Christian approach.

Mr. DM is not so fortunate, as his wife is quite frisky, let’s say, and does not have any self-control when it comes to mocking stupid ideas and behaviors. Not mocking the person per se (usually), but the idea. And I simply won’t give it a rest. You may have noticed this about me. =) Mr. DM is long-suffering to a point, but then feels obliged to restrain me just before (or after) someone breaks out a weapon.

  17. Waiting for the day she stumbles across my credit card statements and asks who/what is this “RSMCCAIN” I’ve sent money too…

  18. “What I like most about this site, is that I can read and remark about the types of things that just aren’t discussed in polite company in my world-….”
    Things like…Patpong?

  19. Nice to know that I’m not alone.

I drifted in here seeking truth about Kaitlyn Hunt because we lived there and our friends children were in school with that little tramp.

My wife still doesn’t get why all the reading about rad-fem, the patriarchy, etc. but I love her for putting up with me.

  20. Mrs. RKae doesn’t want to hear about this.

I sit and watch “NCIS” with her. In a recent episode, a gay sailor has been killed, and the pontificating from the scriptwriters is underway!

Gibbs has to say in his stoic tone (well, to be fair, everything he says is stoic), “Some people don’t like change.”

Right. I guess that’s it. Change. All change. Everything that falls under the heading of “change.” As if anal sex is the thing that decides if you’ll EVER accept change. “Hey! If you don’t like anal sex, then you just don’t like ANYTHING, mister!”

I keep quiet. I shake my head and chuckle to myself and let it just go by.

‘Cause, no, Mrs. RKae doesn’t want to hear about it for me.
