Any of the Republican field is better than Hillary.

Even, Lord help me, Jeb Bush.

    Debatable.

About the only Dem I’d consider voting for is Jim Webb, on defense policy and unafraid patriotism alone.

And only if Jeb was the General Election nominee.

I’d vote for Rand Paul over Jeb Bush or Mke Huckabee. Fortunately there are other, more attractive options.

I’m not suggesting anyone vote for a Democrat, nor would I suggest that anyone vote for Jeb Bush. If that’s the choice, one might as well vote for the communist.

I’ll probably get banned from Breitbart. I suggested that if Andrew were still alive he’d fire the editorial staff. Well, it was more of a declaration.

But one writer (a paid writer, so I feel justified in going after the editors) has submitted an effective hagiography over a single candidate, by virtue of submitting around eight fawning articles on him in just two days. The candidate doesn’t matter. It’s the complete destruction of the boundary between earned media and serving as a paid shill.

Isn’t this why Kaus left Carlson’s operation?

    I noted that yesterday.

I don’t mind it as much when it’s a blogger. Stacy was more than a little supportive of Santorum and entirely dismissive of Gingrich last time. His site, his privilege. I even felt like he had many good points about both, even though I never felt Santorum had a real chance (or that Newt’s flaws ruled him out entirely). Plus, Stacy covered the campaign in the old-school way: by going where the candidates were and interviewing them. He covered the various campaigns honestly, and was tough on all of them.

As Adobe Walls pointed out, Ace has tended to jump on a single candidate pretty early (he was a Perry fan if I recall). Same deal: his site, his privilege.

(With bloggers, the name is the brand. So it’s like listening to talk radio hosts.)

But Breitbart is a media site living off of ad dollars, with paid editors and paid writers. I like the fact that they mix opinion in with their news and analysis, but you can’t pretend to be an “analyst” while being completely in the bag for one guy. (Especially some of the treacly, over-the-top drivel they coughed up in support of him.)

(I like Walker as one of my top three or four choices, and I agree he has probably the best resume as an executive, so I’m not biased against him. I’m just not going to be fooled by silly, tongue-bath articles.)

  13. Daniel Freeman
    April 23rd, 2015 @ 6:20 pm

I’ve been thinking about it, and every single one of those articles is about his position on immigration. There’s more to Walker than one issue, and the writer has used lines like (paraphrasing) that it will be interesting to see if other candidates pick up on this winning position. If he feels that strongly about it, his tongue baths might be available for other candidates too.

  14. K-Bob
    April 23rd, 2015 @ 6:26 pm

You’d think so. Sadly, Walker’s position is neither “new” nor “bold,” (which the writer seems unable to resist calling it) since it’s pretty much the generic conservative position. It’s so generic that even Rubio has staked out that position.

(Jeb and Rand Paul, and likely Christie do not hold that position, but most of the others do.)

So the writer’s loaded question about the other candidates picking up on it makes it look like he was just born this week, and has absolutely no idea what’s been going on .

“Better” doesn’t matter. Lung cancer is better than pancreatic. Falling from a thousand feet with no ‘chute is better than falling from fifteen hundred.

But if we don’t get a Restoration-minded candidate, it won’t matter who wins. SCOTUS chairs won’t matter, Tax cuts/increases won’t matter. None of it will matter.

Falling from a thousand feet with no ‘chute is better than falling from fifteen hundred.

That’s like saying it’s better to be burned by a 1,000 degree fire than a 1,200 degree fire.

In both instances, the probability of being either killed by the sudden stop at the bottom in a fall, or suffering life threatening third degree burns from the fire is approximately the same.

    Or if you prefer…Tomato- Tomahtoe
