Feminists Chase ‘Avengers’ Director Off Twitter, Because … Gender Theory?

Let me explain something up front: Hollywood blockbusters are not made by conforming to people’s pet political theories. The target audience is 12-year-olds who want to see a lot of explosions and chase scenes and stuff like that. Yet the bottom-line calculations of box-office profit mean nothing to feminists:

Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon is officially off the grid, having quit Twitter today (May 4).
The filmmaker signed off from the social media service with two final messages to his 1.15 million followers. . . .
Whedon has been criticized by some Avengers fans and critics for using Scarlett Johansson’s international spy Black Widow in a typical ‘damsel in distress’ role in a few key scenes late in Age of Ultron.

OMG, a female character getting rescued by a male hero? Oh, we can’t have that kind of stuff in movies in 2015! We must critique the social construction of the gender binary within the heterosexual matrix!

No more studio executives and producers and directors — no, this capitalist structure of movie production must be replaced by a system that guarantees social justice! The era of white cis male heteropatriarchal movie-making is over! Henceforth, every script will be created by a committee of Women’s Studies majors under the supervision of Judith Butler, Sally Kohn and Anita Sarkeesian, and all characters must be either lesbian, genderqueer or oppressed minorities from the Third World, preferably disabled or, at least, neuroatypical.

Your next super-hero blockbuster will be about an undocumented Guatemalan paraplegic bisexual with a harelip and chronic depression.

And the 12-year-olds are going to like it, or else.

  1. Poor Joss. Turned out the crocodile didn’t eat him last.

Somewhere Saul Alinsky is saying, “Hey, wait a minute…”

  2. How has anyone missed the fact that feminists actually DO nothing? Getting offended is not a skill.

  3. Not so sure.

In modern America, I think we have indeed made that a profession. (Same with “being cool.” That’s now a paying occupation.)

    Gave you a thumbs-up anyway.

  4. The Age of Chronic Feminist Depression.

    Wait a tick… that’s not science fiction.

    Those pods are HERE!

    Okay – a one-armed Guatemalan gender-queer. Let’s call her “Super-Bee.” Stings like a bitch.

The Scarlet Witch – bi-sexual Hindu and OCD. Her power is she can survive any flame started by a man.

The Wasp. Morbidly obese cis-normative Muslim ADHD who lassoes men with head-scarves.

The Black Widow – Albanian atheist love-child of Norm Chomsky and Greta Garbo, born with an extra super-leg.

    Avenge yourselves gals!!!

  5. Wait….did you call them “gals”???

    Denounce yourself, filthy patriarchal rape-apologist!

  6. Hollywood discovers CHORFS now. Goody! They’ve played the SJW game too long and it’s about time they got stung too.

  7. The target audience is 12-year-olds who want to see a lot of explosions and chase scenes and stuff like that.I loaned you the money to get that damned typewriter out of hock how many times, and this is what I get?Whedon is a feminist himself, his children carry his wife’s sur not his. He’s a big supporter of gay rights as well. So I think you missed the larger story that was he could never do enough to satisfy the radical left simply because he was a man.A product of a Soviet program that created women assassins in AoU the Black Widow reveals that the final step was to be sterilized. That probably ticked off a bunch of the SJWs. I didn’t really see a moment where Romanoff needed a rescue. All of the Avengers needed a hand here and there in the battle. And where a lot of fans want a solo for the Black Widow, right now all of the films are leading for a climax in 2019. Meantime, Whedon is off to write Wonder Woman.I’m sure Robert Downey Jr. is welcoming Whedon to the fold now. Downey walked out on a interview when the interviewer wanted to interrogate the star on a comment he once made on how it wasn’t possible to come out of prison a liberal.

  8. What’s with Marxists and legs? I just watched FridaRush as Trotsky and lots of Hayek nudity. And she ends up with a wooden leg. God help us if Stacy ever watches that film.

  9. Ha Ha. Some poetic justice. As much as we despise the feminist internet grievance mill, there are few things more satisfying than watching a preening, portly, balding, sniveling mangina, who sold out the male species at every opportunity, finally get hoisted by his own feminist petard. (Though I don’t think anything will top the downfall of Hugh Schwyzer.)

I do not know whether Whedon is a feminist-SJW true believer or just an opportunist, but I really wondered why it took so long for him to suffer some feminist backlash. Most of his shows and films depict conventionally attractive female persons in revealing outfits which some heterosexual males may find titillating. Even when you try to market it as some “strong independent woman” or “girl power’ canard, feminists do not like that. He was always on thin ice and it seems that he became complacent and overplayed his hand. Perhaps he thought his office as the pop culture eunuch chamberlain was secure.

To think, just a month ago, Whedon was Twitter-shitting on “Jurassic World,” calling it “sexist” so he could earn some more feminist brownie points.

Mock on, Whedon. Mock on, Futrelle. Mock on, Arthur Chu. Mock on, manginas of the world.

Dance your little monkey dance and abase yourselves all you like. Perhaps once day the feminists will let you eat their shit.

  10. Stacey left out a secret ingredient that 12-year-old boys are quite interested in. Mammary glands.

  11. The irony of this all is, back in his Buffy days, Whedon used to actually submit his script to a female college professor/mentor for approval of their treatment of women before shooting. He openly boasted of the fact.

Proof therefore that 1: You can’t be progressive enough…
and 2. Proglodytes always eat their own in the end.

Maybe he’ll realize this someday and sit down for a couple of beers with John Milius.

  12. Stacy this is your chance to make it in Hollywood! Quick! Go pitch the Law and Order episode where Joss Whedon committed the murder!

  13. Ah yes, Law & Order. The show where the conclusion to every episode was some white male Wall Street billionaire who secretly goes to the ghetto every night to devour poor black children.

  14. Joss Whedon is a coward. He has in the past both used Twitter to mock those who support causes and ideas with which he disagrees and has supported those who do the same (via retweeting). The moment the mob turned on him, he bravely ran away. Robespierre learned it the hard way, when are these liberal progressives going to learn that mob rule is not a good thing?

  15. “Henceforth, every script will be created by a committee of Women’s Studies majors under the supervision of Judith Butler, Sally Kohn and Anita Sarkeesian, and all characters must be either lesbian, genderqueer or oppressed minorities from the Third World, preferably disabled or, at least, neuroatypical.”

I am wondering what this would look like. Is there even a movie that fits all of these requirements out there today? I have a feeling it would fall so flat that no one would ever want to do it again.

  16. I like the tweets below that that are all… What’s wrong? I just said something about sexism in the movie and that’s somehow bad?

From the same people who would treat any criticism of their ideas as reason to have safe spaces.

Granted, the tweet that said, “You ruined my life!” might have been sarcasm directed at the poor snowflakes.

  17. I expect them to totally ruin Wonder Woman. Whedon had written a script for Wonder Woman, btw… (looks for link)… darn, can’t find it. Well, if I’m not making it up totally, what I remember is Whedon wrote a WW script where WW’s boyfriend plays a part in helping her to learn how to get along in the modern world and understand lowly humans. I know this because I read an article trashing it because of that. Wonder Woman shouldn’t need a man!!!! eleventy.

But it seems clear to me that what a WW origin story would need is for WW to be a chauvinist, of the female sort. She looks down on men because of her upbringing. And yeah, Steve can help her learn to view humanity with compassion, but she also has to learn and grow during the story and what she learns needs to be how not to be a chauvinist.

There is NO CHANCE of that happening. And while someone might write and film a very good WW movie, it will be micro-criticized to DEATH, no matter what they do with it.

This… is why we can’t have nice things.

  18. Hollywood is an interesting place. It’s governed by two competing emotions: Love of Leftist politics and love of money. How many crappy leftist odes have we seen come and go to great reviews and abysmal box-office receipts, while things like American Sniper make zillions.

  19. No one can ever be pure enough, because thought-policing is about power, not results. Those who comply little will be demanded little more, and those who comply much will be demanded much more.

There are worthier goals to work for — like ending honor killings of rape victims — but they can get the same rush for less risk and less energy by hounding a rich, powerful ally off of Twitter. So that’s what they do.

  20. Oh, oh, oh: you know, the costumed identity of each of the Avengers is actually a personification of some kind of oppression, right?

I mean, obviously, Captain America is jingoism, right? And Iron Man is the military industrial complex, Thor is white privilege.

Umm… gets a bit less plausible after that. Maybe the Hulk is Mutually Assured Destruction… you know, the ol’ cold war threat posed by US nukes… maybe…

    O-ppressors O-ssemble!

  21. The stock L&O villain was selected off the following checklist:

    1. Angry white male
    1. a. Angry Rich White Male
1.b. Poor or Middle Class White Male Usually Acting Out Against More Successful Woman or Person of Color (wealth and success being signs of villainy in White Males and signs of virtue and character in Others).
    2. Angry fundamentalist Christian
    3. Angry conservative politician (usually acting out a scandal performed by a Democrat in real life)
    4. A member of Homeland Security.
    5. An angry white Christian male member of Homeland security.
    6. Insert Homophobic subtext as dramatically necessary.

  22. The old joke about Bally pinball was that every machine they made, save Space Invaders, featured the female chest in its artwork.

  23. No, no, no Stark has rejected the MIC and become the poster boy for kumbaya capitalism.,, except when he blows the **** out of things out of sheer moral superiority.

  24. Pppbbbttttt… Iron Man will ALWAYS, ultimately be the dupe, the traitor, the villain because originally, in the comic book, he was a death-dealing arms-dealer whose moment of truth arrived in the jungles of Vietnam.

  25. RSM has been giving free crazy lessons here for years now. You put in the time, you get the results.

Don’t hate me for being a good student >:^)

  26. On occasion, they did merge some of the categories.

Like one episode of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” in which the perpetrator is a white male conservative Christian father who lost his job but still wears suits to maintain his middle class pretense, objects to plays by homosexual playwrights, murders his coworkers, murders most of family, but spares his daughter because he wants to molest her.

  27. Hawkeye is obviously an ersatz or Reverse Robin Hood, representing the expropriation of surplus value via wage slavery.

    “Snort”

    Obviously

  28. Perhaps replacing “DO” with “produce” would make a more accurate statement here.

  29. What’s that again about not speaking up for the Jews, Socialists, Catholics, etc. until they came for me?

  30. […] wait to see the movie The Avengers. I’ve heard it’s been a big hit at the box office, but the director has found himself in the cross hairs of the radical feminists. You know, because a man rescued a woman. Or something. It’s so hard to keep up with the fem […]

  31. There is irony in the fact that despite the screaming and screeching about how he ruined Widow (perish the thought!!!) people will go see the movie in droves so all the people predicting it’s Whedon’s last film or screaming that he should be kept away from Marvel will likely not get their wish.

That is unless Whedon actually really cares about all the BS that turned up on his Twitter feed.

Fact: Women tend to not be as strong or buff or powerful as men.

Fact: People like to hear stories about the weak being helped by the strong.

So, what’s so wrong about having a man rescue Black Widow huh? It’s a theme people like and this is the entertainment business. The movie exists to make money, not to give feminists warm fuzzies. I’m sure Widow does a lot of butt kicking in other parts of the movie so why can’t she falter a bit somewhere, Iron Man isn’t always perfect either.

  32. Pfft! You’re talking about the guy who wanted to buy Coca-Cola for its distribution network and use their vending machines to distribute antibiotics and vaccines in 3rd World slums, And no, I didn’t make that up, that was an actual story arc.

  33. Well, yeah, except when he got his start with the Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime, stealing audience members’ wallets after Ringmaster hypnotized them with his top hat.

Of course Hawkeye was also the first Marvel hero to sleep with the Black Widow, proud head of a long list.

  34. Captain America is the politest jingo you’ll ever meet. Except in the Ultimates editions where he is a SERIOUS hardass.

  35. Clint Barton started out as a thief, then was seduced into industrial espionage, then joined Cap’s Kooky Quartet. Great character. One of my favorites. Tom Defalco’s portrayal of Hawkeye in Avengers Annual #16 really exemplifies the character. No powers, down to his last arrow, overmatched and outmaneuvered, he wins by cheating, just like he should.

I honestly believe (damn invasive thoughts) on some level he represents some kind of transmogrified, hierogliphic Robin Hood. Taxation and wealth redistribution, maybe?

  36. Captain America is also ableism. Iron Man is also class privilege. Thor also represents the patriarchy through his dad, who is a literal patriarch. The Hulk represents both nuclear science and toxic masculinity.

Hey, this is easy and fun! Too bad it sucks the fun out of everything else, or it could make an amusing party game.
