A totalitarian professor is in big trouble:
Melissa Click, an assistant professor of mass media at the University of Missouri, ordered a journalist to leave an area where demonstrators had gathered on the Missouri campus.
She then called activists to “muscle” the Asian journalist off campus!
Today the Mizzou journalism faculty voted to revoke the appointment of activist professor Melissa Click.
The Columbia Missourian reported:
Faculty in the Missouri School of Journalism were voting Tuesday to revoke a courtesy appointment for Melissa Click, an assistant professor in MU’s Department of Communication.
The journalism school’s Executive Committee, including Dean David Kurpius, met Tuesday morning to discuss the vote and prepare a statement on Click’s actions Monday as seen in footage of a confrontation between freelance photographer Tim Tai and protesters near the Concerned Student 1950 camp on the Mel Carnahan Quadrangle.
Click was seen at the end of the video asking for assistance and for “muscle” to remove Mark Schierbecker, who filmed the interaction and uploaded his footage to YouTube.
They may need “muscle” to throw her off campus. Any volunteers?
PREVIOUSLY:
I am actually surprised she didn’t get tenure!
Does she need a “safe space” to go to?
Is unemployed a safe space?
Did she Frisch herself?
[…] It appears that assistant professor Melissa Click did not have tenure at the university, and the journalism faculty has voted to revoke her appointment. […]
Some of my fellow pagans would call this instant karma. I just think it’s what happens when people ignore what Christians call the Golden Rule.
Stuff like this makes me happy I’m #justablogger.
There’s always Safeway.
Like I replied in a previous post…$60K was too much for this person’s salary and evidently the University agreed.
That’s AWESOME!
Click’s primary position is in Communications Dept, this action by J-school doesn’t affect that. While this should be embarrassment, it’s doubtful that Click is capable of being embarrassed.
No action will be taken against her.
Birds of a feather flock together.

Poor thing is now being victimized by rape and death threats.

A few thoughts:
1. Ain’t nobody wants to stick their dick in that.
2. I thought she was in her safe space.
3. I look forward to the FBI once again saying absolutely nothing about their investigation into these threats.
I don’t normally believe in the indiscriminate use of dogs, fire hoses and truncheons, but I am more than willing to make an exception for this crew.
That’s fracked up.
I believe she will still be an assistant professor in the Media/Communications department which is part of Arts & Science. It was heretofore known as “Speech & Communications.” Journalism is a separate school and she had a courtesy appointment in order to teach courses cross referenced between the Journalism School and A&S. BTW, she has tenure if she’s an “Assistant Professor,”
College students are noted for being unpredictable when poked at, especially college football fans. Mizzou plays at home on Sat. and if there is any sanity at this stupid, stupid school I hope the fans boo every time their team makes a play and cheers on BYU to win. It is certainly what I would do. Let anyone try and stop that.
Or the Threefold Law in action.
LOL. “Armadillos? MOUNT UP!!!”
wonder how many will get either reference…. We’re old, keemosabbe
The article linked to does not say that the journalism school has actually revoked her courtesy appointment, only that they are voting about whether or not to do so. She won’t actually lose her job. And even for this small, token sanction, the other professors are already circling the wagons:
“”It’s close,” Thorson said of the vote. “But we have some strong voices concerned about fairness (to Click).””
Additionally, both Click and Janna Basler, the other academic commissar who threatened Tai, are now pissing and moaning that they have received threats, trying to flip it and milk sympathy. Leftists will never be deterred from claiming the victim card!
A friend of mine refers to people like Click as “political pedophiles”. They exploit the idealism, innocence, ignorance, and energy of young people, and manipulate them into dangerous ideologies and actions to use in their quests for political power and personal fulfillment. The difference is that Click was too dumb and too emotionally-invested in the situation to fade into the background once the cameras and law showed up, as these types usually do. So she’s now been exposed to the world as a two-bit agitator and faculty-quad Mussolini. With any luck, she’ll never work around impressionable youth again.
Ah, somebody knows the concepts. *grins*
I never could wrap my head around the threefold return myself. I do hold with “like calls to like” though. Or what goes around comes around.
They may need “muscle” to throw her off campus. Any volunteers?
I’ve got a jumbo pooper scooper right here.
Some Christians would tell her to “Be fruitful and multiply,” but not in those words.

Hmm. Never heard of it before, but this looks like a good explanation.
Most assistant professors do not have tenure. That is reserved for professors and (in certain cases) associate professors.
They’re probably phoning those threats in to themselves.
The first step in making a public embarrassment go away is to have a committee “look into it.”
That appears to be correct. Their Dept of Communication is in the College of Arts & Science, and she is listed separately in the Communication and Journalism faculties.
Trying to pull a Sarkeesian.
More or less. The threefold bit was what bothered me. Every time I read it or someone told it to me, I kept remembering the voice of my junior high science teacher, “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.”
I’m disappointed to see that she teaches Visual Literacy (a.k.a. semiotics), which is a particular hobby of mine. I am not, however, surprised to see that she has an unusual interest in Twilight, Lady Gaga, and 50 Shades of Gray.
*grins*
An Earthy sentiment, certainly.
According to that article it was originally prescriptive — basically “pay it forward and then some.” (The negative version would be “hit back twice as hard and make the rubble bounce.”)
You’re correct. I recall now that the track is associate professor first. At Mizzou, tenure was granted with the promotion to “assistant.” My blunder.
In practice it can get complicated…
It works for some people even if they don’t understand the whys and wherefores.. I’ve seen it abused. So I came up with something that I think works better.
“Go tell three really dirty jokes. Share a piece of fruit with someone you can’t stand. Cuddle with someone you care deeply about. Leave the place a little nicer than when you found it. And greet the sun when it wakes up.”
At almost every institution I’m aware of:
assistant < associate < full professor.
I would have to see the bylaws and statutes at Mizzou to know how they organize their system but I'd be awfully surprised if an assistant professor was a 'higher' rank than associate professor. These things are pretty standard at universities, and need to be because they connote status. There are few groups more concerned with status than academic faculty — I should know!
Dr. Click started at Mizzou as a "research instructor", which is a rank below that of assistant professor, and generally is a temporary, entry-level faculty position. She then was promoted to assistant professor in 2008. That puts her 7 years into her slot. At most places a tenure-track faculty person comes up for an "up-or-out" review for Associate Professor (with tenure) at about that time. Non-tenure-track faculty have more flexibility in when they come up, and at some institutions there is no up-or-out rule for non-tenure-track positions.
Apparently she resigned her “courtesy appointment” with the journalism school before the school could vote to remove it.

However, she still remains an assistant professor within the University itself. So I’m sure she’ll happily continue trying to foment another Cultural Revolution and scoring “Intersectional” cred.
I have thought about this myself. Yes, it’s the ultimate safe space. Liberals have been so successful in programming students that they now police themselves. Liberal educators have made themselves obsolete.
Liberals rely on Conservatives to wipe their ass. How can they ever legitimately claim any moral superiority?
She apologized so all is forgiven since she is a Liberal (and likely a Democrat, but I’m being redundant).
For her prospective students, definitely!
[…] Well, That Didn’t Take Long […]
Saul Alinsky, among others, perfected the Jewish art of agitating negros.
I’m sure she’ll find a comfortable spot to land at Berkeley or Harvard.
You have a disturbing comment history.
The truth tends to be uncomfortable at times. I get that.
Here’s a clue. If your “truth” can only come by demeaning others, it’s not truth.
