It was Regular Right Guy who tipped me to the rumor two weeks ago that Charlie Sheen has the AIDS virus, and I wrote:
The recklessness of Sheen’s life — cocaine and whores — was bound to catch up with him sooner or later, and if he is indeed infected with HIV, this would not be particularly surprising.
Tragic, but not surprising. The news this week:
Charlie Sheen is expected to disclose that he is HIV positive in an exclusive “Today” Show interview on Tuesday, a source with direct knowledge of the interview told CNNMoney.
On Monday, NBC announced that the actor would be making a “revealing personal announcement” on the “Today” show Tuesday morning.
The source told CNNMoney that Sheen is expected to discuss his HIV condition when he sits down with Matt Lauer live from the “Today” show studio in New York City.
In addition, Hollywood public relations specialist Howard Bragman was quoted in People Magazine saying that Sheen “is getting treatment, and a lot of people in his life know about it.”
So, Regular Right Guy is right again. Always trust your blog buddies. Sources say Sheen’s ex-wife had known he was infected:
As Charlie Sheen gets ready to announce to the world that he is HIV positive, a source tells Access Hollywood that Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards, has known Sheen had the disease for a “number of years.”
A source close to Richards told Access Hollywood that the actor contracted the disease in the years after he and Richards divorced in 2006.
Sheen and Richards have “not been intimate” since the divorce, the source added.
Sheen and Richards first met in 2000, but didn’t begin dating until October 2001, when Richards appeared on Sheen’s sitcom “Spin City.” The couple got engaged on December 26, 2001 and tied the knot on June 15, 2002.
In March 2005, Richards filed for divorce. The divorce was finalized in November 2006.
To me, that’s the real kick in the head of this story. By the time he met Denise Richards, Charlie Sheen had spent enough years as Hollywood’s roguish bad boy that you might have thought he would be more than happy to hang up his spurs and retire from the rodeo.
And what a fairly tale ending that would have been, eh? The notorious womanizer finally settling down to family life, married to one of the most beautiful young actresses on the planet. But it wasn’t enough for Charlie. His oversized ego, and the bad habits he acquired as a young prince of Hollywood, could not adapt to the constraints of domestic tranquility. He wrecked his marriage and ruined his career and, somewhere in this celebrity tragedy, there may be a lesson worth studying.
The thing about Charlie Sheen is, he was
married to DENISE FREAKING RICHARDS,
but that wasn't good enough for him. Idiot.

Money won’t buy happiness, and it won’t buy silence, either:
Charlie Sheen kept his HIV status under wraps, but everything unraveled when some former partners threatened him with lawsuits . . .
Charlie confided in several friends he thought were confidants … it turned out they weren’t, and spread the word he was HIV positive.
That led to several of Charlie’s former partners contacting him and threatening a lawsuit because they were unaware of his status when they had interaction with him. Our sources say Charlie settled several of the cases and, in return for money, got confidentiality agreements.
We’re told one of the settlements occurred late last month.

If only there weren’t some. . .cause-and-effect relationship. . .between a hedonistic lifestyle and disastrous side-effects.
I suppose this means we’ll be subjected to various hagiographies about Sheen attempting to rehabilitate his image. Sadly, at some point famous people realize one should not seek redemption from one’s publicist.
Somehow, if you “had interaction(s)” with Mr Sheen, if you didn’t realize there was a much higher than normal probability that he had some undesirable micro-organisms in his system, you were an idiot.
Common sense is very rare nowadays.
An HIV diagnosis is no longer a “tragedy.” Magic Johnson has been living with it since 1991.
Our esteemed host tweeted:
And Tiger Woods was married to a Swedish bikini model, and still thought there was an upgrade available.
Prostitutes have something more than just a “heart of gold.” They are disease vectors – like rats.
What are these guys thinking? Ah, but that’s just it: They’re not thinking. They are acting out of habit. When young men get in the habit of continuous pursuit, they can never have enough trophies.
Sure it’s a tragedy; it’s just not a fatal one anymore. HIV patients have to take a whole host of drugs to prevent HIV from developing into AIDS, and the average lifetime cost is $379,000.
Is this the same DENISE FREAKING RICHARDS that accused him of abusing his kids during divorce so she could get better prizes?
ONS fine….Marriage NEVER!
He’s a shoo-in for an ESPN award.
How did this man was ever a catch? (Including landing Denise Richards). My conclusion is that our evolutionary legacy is very screwed up.
Unthinkable. That’s an unacceptably judgemental post.
I hear that it’s an effective weight-loss program.
I can give you aprox 100 million reasons…$100 million that is.
Pathetic. This is one of the reasons I don’t like to read about celebrity gossip. Most of the time their lives are just train-wrecks. The only thing that adds a shine to it is the amount of money they have to cover up for their mistakes.
I am thankful to have a happy healthy marriage life with children. I wouldn’t want to be 40 and still dating singles. There’s nothing exciting or fun about it. Dating is stressful. Not knowing if you’re going to grow old alone is stressful. Being able to trust and have faith in my partner is worth more than money can buy.
You know, I consistently criticize feminism’s irrational anti-male worldview, but this does not mean I am unsympathetic to women — quite the opposite, in fact. So, maybe Denise Richards was a wee bit “high maintenance,” but what was Charlie? Or what did he expect? One thing I learned during my youth: Guys who complain that their girlfriend or wife is crazy have failed to figure out that, at some basic level, all women are crazy. Once you figure this out — which is to say, once you resign yourself to the reality that you will never fully understand any woman — this makes life much simpler. Learn to be happy with (and grateful for) the woman who puts up with you, and do not become dissatisfied because of your fantasies of finding a better woman somewhere out there.
Staying married to your “crazy” wife may seem like a difficult thing to endure, but is it really worse than divorcing your crazy wife? You point out the vengeful behavior of Denise Richards in her divorce from Charlie Sheen as if this makes her the villain and justifies Charlie’s behavior, but what do you expect? I mean, you marry a girl like that, have two kids and then dump her after three years? Oh, hell, no. She and her lawyers are going to make you pay for that damage, one way or another.
Twenty-six years ago, I vowed to “forsake all others” until “death do us part,” and certainly I have less cause to complain about the terms of this bargain than my saintly wife does. Can anyone imagine that Charlie Sheen was a better husband than Denise Richards was a wife? And if both of them entered into that bargain freely, did Charlie think he could abrogate his vows without consequence? Stipulating that his ex-wife may have dealt with him unfairly in the divorce, isn’t this possibility — the Divorce From Hell — one of the reasons why people are cautious in their choice of marital partners?
Excuse me if I believe staying married to Denise Richards was the better option for Charlie.
Preposterous! Next thing, you’ll be telling me there’s some sort of relationship between assaulting a police officer and getting shot!
Tiger was getting busy with Waffle House waitresses. I think he’s wound a little too tight.
The thing about it is, the plumbing is basically the same if she’s a starlet or a sow with a bag over her head. It’s the product of living in an oversexualized culture that is largely morally and spiritually bankrupt.
If men could completely comprehend woman— or women men— there wouldn’t be the statement or need that they should ‘…cleave together and become one flesh…’ along w/‘…neither is man without woman, nor woman without man, complete in the The Lord…’!
We, men and women, are two halves of a whole. We each have pieces of body and spirit the other lacks.
I’ve never understood why people have difficulty w/the concept, it isn’t that odd or difficult.
TheWife, (more than 30yrs), really do complete each other, and we heavily rely on what the other brings to our joint life… I’m logical, (almost mechanical, actually) and my spouse is compassionate, I’m obsessive-compulsive for organization and neatness: if not for my beautiful wife, I’d be paralyzed in preparation! If not for me, my other-half would jump w/o looking first!
And over the years we’ve softened each other’s strongest opposite traits. All good!
Together we are vastly more than the sum of each of us.
And if both of them entered into that bargain freely, did Charlie think he could abrogate his vows without consequence?
The short answer is, “yes.” And by that, I do not mean the perils of divorce. I mean that we have moved from a time where marriage was a sacrament, to marriage being a civil contract to marriage being an arrangement in the way that owning a car is an arrangement. This is the oft-ignored effect of the Progressive Agenda.
I listen to committed Christians bemoaning the state of Marriage and the Family in 2015 and, while I agree wholeheartedly, always want to ask, “Where were you in the 60s when ‘no fault’ divorce was all the rage; when ostensibly lifetime commitments could be discarded for the most specious of reasons?” The battle was lost 50 years ago because people fell into the trap of believing that “self-actualization” and transient “happiness,” whatever that is, was more important than keeping one’s promises.
Yes, Sheen is a train wreck, but no more so than legions of other people in similar positions who don’t have lots of money and the ability to get gigs on morning TV shows.
Common sense hasn’t been common for quite a few years.
You’re just a bigot and a H8er.
I suppose this is what passes for #winning.
One cannot undervalue the idea of “acceptance” by someone–that whole “for better or worse” bit. The contentment that exists in shared experiences, both successful and not. The idea of starting over, of trying to build that sort of history anew is absolutely terrifying. I think it is what Proverbs means when Solomon refers to “taking joy in the wife of your youth.”
Most people know that a woman will have more problems in bonding with a husband the more men she has slept with (or “N” as PUAs put it). Most people think, wrongly, that a guy isn’t damaged by such nonsense. They may be more resilient than women, but I’ve seen the situation that Sheen had with Richards more times than I’d like to count. A man will have exactly the same problem with bonding as a woman when he has led a life of sexual dissipation prior to marriage. Sheen was, at the bottom line, not marriageable.
Special snowflakes never melt…
It is a tragedy when someone gets it inadvertently through no fault of their own (fortunately that is rarer today). It is stupidity when someone catches it due to bad behavior.
Wood’s upgrade (to paraphrase Paul Newman) was going out for cheap burgers when there was steak waiting for him at home…
I don’t typically use beef references in comments, but it works for this.
Well, if she could cook waffles, well that is a useful skill.
[…] UPDATE: CONFIRMED! […]
Maybe he should have had the Tiger Blood tested…
When you’re drunk and it’s 2am, a greasy burger looks very good.
…2 and a 1/2 men, seems ironic now…?
…and it’s really hard to imagine a guy who has had sex with anything that sat still long enough, who has apparently had psychotic breaks fueled by consuming massive quantities of drugs and alcohol, abused his kids?
I’ve always suspected that ~100% of show business marriages are arranged by publicists…kinda like the way Tom Cruise’s are arranged by the church of Scifitology. The Hollywood propaganda machine sells us Bogey and Bacall every single time a couple of these modestly talented whosits hooks up. Hollywood is nothing but a perversion machine that consumes human beings and spits out filth…or have I jut been exposed to too many Mark Wahlberg movies…
Pancakes, please, with real butter, no syrup.
She took in his twin sons he had with another woman after her and kept them for like a year because Charlie didn’t want them and the mother was busy on drugs — so yeah Denise was/is the bad guy

It isn’t odd or difficult, but it is diametrically opposed to modern political correctness. The concept you have enunciated states, inter alia, that men and women are incomplete without each other, which means that adult singles who stay single are broken, and homosexuals can never be normal or whole.
More, since the feminists insist that marriage is a power relationship in which women are subordinate, your statement says that women are born to be subordinate to men.
Well, in the 1960s, I was a kid.
Amen
It’s another bread and circuses shiny dangle to distract the masses from the horrid reality of civilizational collapse we are facing.
Thanks for the continuing leg up RS. You have created quite a brigade (regiment?) of bloginistas and I am ever grateful for your leadership and support.
So was I. Therefore, I grant us both absolution.
“I listen to committed Christians bemoaning the state of Marriage and the Family in 2015 and, while I agree wholeheartedly, always want to ask, “Where were you in the 60s when ‘no fault’ divorce was all the rage; when ostensibly lifetime commitments could be discarded for the most specious of reasons?””
I was a kid in the 60’s.
But, having been there, I can assure you that committed Christians *did* warn — or prophesy, if one wants to use that term — just how all this would work out. And the response then is the same as it is now: “Oh, poo! Don’t you fuddy-duddies know that the “slippery slope” is an invalid arguement?” and, “Oh, pshaw! It’s absurd to suggest that we’ll be pushing for *that* next year; we just want *this* and then we’ll be content.“
True dat!
Ask Charlie Sheen!
Am I the only one who thought “karmic justice” when I read the article?
ISIS is to Islam (and Europe) as Tiger Blood is to Charlie Sheen.
Barack Obama want to give the USA an untested transfusion.
