The #FreeStacy Story: Why Was My @rsmccain Account Suspended?

Unexpectedly, and without explanation, my @rsmccain Twitter account was suspended Friday evening. Based on past experiences, my guess would be that this resulted from a complaint by one of the leading “social justice warriors” (SJWs) who have been at war with #GamerGate since August 2014. However, there was no reason stated for the suspension, and who knows? So I’ve switched to the @SexTroubleBook account I created to promote my book and meanwhile, friends who are fed up with Twitter’s bias and censorship started the #FreeStacy hashtag. This morning I shared some thoughts with a blogger friend who followed the #GamerGate saga:

As I have said for years: Being notorious is not the same as being famous, but it’s better than being anonymous.
That is to say, I don’t often complain about being hated or misunderstood. It comes with the territory. I started out in the news business as a $4.50-an-hour staff writer for a tiny weekly newspaper in Austell, Georgia. Most people have no idea what I did before I got involved in political journalism as an assistant national editor for The Washington Times in 1997, or even have any idea of the work I did there. The vast majority of people who read my blog or follow my Twitter feed have no knowledge of or interest in my personal “backstory.” It’s not about me. I am not the story. I am the guy telling the story, or I am the guy making jokes about the story. I understand that. But I think some people in the New Media era lose sight of this reality.
Politics is like football. It’s a team sport. Until I was in my mid-30s, I was a very partisan Democrat. Bill Clinton (who I voted for in 1992) cured me of my Democrat loyalty. During the 1990s, I began a rather deep autodidactic study of politics, history, economics, philosophy, etc. My politics are conservative, my economics are Austrian, my faith is Christian. It’s that simple — and certain people HATE me for it. But those people hate everybody who is not a Democrat. Fine. I understand that kind of hate, having once been a Democrat myself, but Democrats think of their personal hatred as “social justice.” And so I understand them better than they understand me.
However, it’s not about me. . . .

You can read the whole thing at The Ralph Retort.

This has been a crazy experience, but then again, my whole life has been a crazy experience, so I’m cool with it.

UPDATE: Linked by Darleen Click at Protein Wisdom, Legal Insurrection, Da Tech Guy Blog, Battleswarm, featured at Twitchy, Vox Day, now a Memeorandum thread and welcome, Instapundit readers!

UPDATE II: Robby Soave quotes me accurately at Reason magazine, and they’ll probably never forgive him for it.

UPDATE III: Here’s a podcast I did today:

UPDATE IV: Linked by Donald Douglas at American Power and by Dean Esmay at Dean’s World. Arguably the most interesting post, however, is Ken White at Popehat explaining why he really, really dislikes me and yet . . .

Well, he hates me with every fiber of his being, which is OK. It is a free country, and nobody is required to like me, or even to pretend to like me. However, if Hillary is elected president and our nation descends into anarchy and civil war, and from this chaos emerges a military junta in need of a Supreme Leader as figurehead of New America, I’m available for the gig.

Under such a regime, Generalissimo McCain will not only be obeyed, but also respected and, in fact, it will be the duty of his people to admire and praise the Generalissimo.

Is such an outcome . . . likely? Probably not, but you can’t say it is impossible. You are my people, America, and should circumstances require me to rescue our beloved nation — a swift coup d’état, at a time of crisis — then you understand it will be my duty to answer the call. The Enemies of the People will tremble! And the enemies of the Generalissimo are also the Enemies of the People, obviously.

Blog wars? The Generalissimo will be merciful. It would ill behoove the junta to be settling personal grudges and besides, our manpower will be strained to its limits, rounding up Women’s Studies majors and feminist Tumblr bloggers, giving them a few days’ training, loading them onto C-130s and dropping them by parachute into places like Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, etc., as part of our effort to bring about world peace.

  1. Trump ended up by 10 while Rubio edged Cruz by 0.1% — a truly meaningless difference, since Trump got all 50 delegates. Technically, they couldn’t have a true winner-take-all primary yet by RNC rules; but they fudged it by giving 29 delegates to the statewide winner, and 3 for the winner of each of the 7 congressional districts.

Rubio won two counties, but not in the same district and not by much, so he didn’t get anything. Trump won all 7 districts and walked away with everything, including the first of eight state delegate majorities needed to be presented as a candidate at the national conference.

  2. Really?

In the last year I paid to have a well with a water filter dug in remote village in India where children were dying of thirst. I bought some chickens and livestock for another village. I contributed to have a poor boy and girl sent to a private school where they would get regular clothes, food, and education. I regularly support persecuted Christians, which would be the same people that your Marxist buddies have no problem seeing beheaded. I’ve helped support a very poor elderly woman in my own community who is forced to raise her many grandchildren by herself, her kids being the “recreational drug users” that you love. I’ve spent a couple of thousand dollars on food for them, school clothes, bicycles, Christmas presents, etc. in the last year. I support the local food bank. I regularly buy clothes and food for the homeless. My family volunteers at the local homeless shelter and other places. We’ve literally taken clothes and shoes off our own bodies to give those things to people we encounter who need them. These are the things that true Christians do, and which you don’t recognize because your heart is filled with hate and anger.

Have YOU ever done ANY of these things? I’m guessing no. How many of your communist buddies do these things? I’m guessing none. So you sure don’t have any right to judge me, Bucko.

  3. Oh wait…I forgot…”don’t understand civil rights”….BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Are you a minority, sonny? I am, so don’t talk to me about my understanding of civil rights.

Here’s another thing you can keep in mind, if you have one.

Russian, US and Turkish troops are massing on the border of Syria and Turkey. Saudi Arabia and other countries have converged also on the border with massive numbers of ground troops, tanks and helicopters – more than at any other time in history – for a “military exercise”.

Meanwhile, sometime around 600 BC, the prophet Isaiah said that in the end times, which we’re in, the city of Damascus, the oldest continuously existing city in the history of the world, would be nuked and destroyed. Dudes’ eyeballs and tongues will melt in their heads.

So when you, at some point in the near future, see Damascus nuked, please think back on your claim that God doesn’t exist, and wonder how a guy could know a details like this 2600 years ahead of time, before nukes existed.

Oh my. I pity the things that you may see and experience, son. But remember that you will always be able to find a Christian to explain it to you, if you care.

  6. My brain would’ve been a lot happier back in 1953, but unfortunately I’m stuck here in the future with Marxist ignoramouses.

So now I’m left to contemplate how something Big Banged out of absolutely nothing in complete violation of the laws of thermodynamics and physics, how something like the light sensitive cells in our eyeballs could have possibly *cough*evolved*cough*, why sexual reproduction would have *cough*evolved*cough* when asexual reproduction is far faster, cleaner and superior, and how it is that there is a limit to how far particles can be divided, so that we actually live in a pixelated holographic world that is somehow not created and controlled by a Higher Intelligence (i.e., God). These are the things that I, as a scientist and mathematician, think about.

  7. I’m not overwhelmed by Ken White’s assessments of culture. What other people have been seeing for 3 years he’s just noticed this week.

What he fails to understand is this is not a legal issue but one where people have been falsely invited to believe there is a neutral definition of the term “harassment” in play. It is also clear McCain is mocking an ideology, not women and gays. If White wants a taste of that, let him take a look at 600,000 Tweets combined by theTrudz and Mikki Kendall which for 6 years and running have mercilessly preached incitement against whites on no ideological grounds whatsoever other than nonsense they’ve made up in their heads. Those people are not only not bothered by Twitter they are sympathetic “intersectional” colleagues of the very insane feminists McCain goes after.

  8. The only other people I see use that term are white supremacist-types, which I presume you don’t want to be associated with.

  9. My friend’s mate served in the crew of an oil tanker haunted by ghosts. The First Mate was found floating in the oil tanks. The Capt. was thrown overboard by a sudden mysterious wind and lost at sea. Only half the crew survived. A tragic but true story.

  10. And let me add to that: both those women have exchanged sympathetic Tweets with the last president of the Science Fiction Writers of America. Yesterday the SFWA released their Nebula Award nominees. Is it any surprise a dozen of them would be perfectly at home in the KKK? The most disgraceful day in the 100 year history of SF. Let Popehat smoke that along with his Star Wars.

  11. Actually there is very little difference between the “leaders” of either party. They don’t object to stuff being done, they object to the other “guy” doing it and getting the credit.

The problem isn’t the Republicans or Democrats, it is the state. It’s going to continue until enough people realize that the self-appointed elites control the candidates and mostly control the agenda.

If you’re supporting increased taxes to get money or benefits, you’re supporting theft plain and simple. Politicos will spend all the money they can grab and then some. It won’t be on the things you think you “deserve.”

  12. Then there is the numbers game.

The “rich” don’t make enough money. Even if you seized every dollar the “rich” made, it wouldn’t pay for everything. You have to go deep into the “middle class,” well beyond the upper, beyond the middle, and well into the lower “middle class.” And it’s still not enough.

That brings us to the biggest second order function in society. If people can’t keep what they earn, why should they work harder to earn more?

  13. Finally, (and this is the Really Important Bit™). Government is not your friend.

The purpose of government is not to help “the poor, the weak, and the minority.”

It is to perpetuate and expand power at the point of a gun.

It won’t help to get the “right people” elected, because they won’t stay elected.

Instead, power backed by force will stay with unelected technocrats who are convinced that they know what is “for your own good” no matter what you say and do.

You know, sort of like what you are saying now.

  14. Ah I knew that lie would get trotted out…..for some strange reason the police investigated that lie and fund no one shred of evidence to support that bit of fiction floated by the Hunt criminal family. But it really doesn’t matter Kaitlyn Hunt broke the law and had sex with a minor who can NOT give consent.

  15. It seems that conservatives need to abandon Twitter en masse.

I read this somewhere. I’m paraphrasing

1st the Internet was for research
    2nd it was for shopping
    Now it’s for war

  16. Can we discuss this issue in view of the passage of the civil rights laws which outlawed discrimination in public accommodations? Is Ken White in favor of forcing the small restaurant owning racist bigot to accommodate people who he hates, but Big Media – that invites everyone to join – can ban people it hates for any reason? Is it time for a lawsuit that expands the civil rights laws? Or, Ken, should we repeal the civil rights laws? How Libertarian are we?

  18. Giving it a try – so far the profile edit function is not as intuitive as I expect. Also using mewe.com in a kind of trial in place of Facebook.

  19. You’ve hit on the crux of it. Before a law exists there must be a desire for that law. Popehat acts as if law precedes consensus and has precedent over it.

If you’re not talking about free speech, equal protection and due process, you’re not saying anything. We have been called racists, homophobes and women-haters for doing nothing more than arguing the principles of free speech, equal protection and due process.

  20. Unlike that perfectly acceptable big money originating from unions, virtually all of which is extorted from members and paid to the Democrat Party.

  21. He’s spot on too. He moved to New Zealand about 3 years ago. Nancy also died last November. She had melanoma that was spotted in her sinuses. They mutilated her in an attempt to save her life, but it didn’t work. So Chuck is alone in the Antipodes now.

  22. Spoken like a true blue selfish boomer asshole who speaks in mindless cliches, and generalizations…
Says the person who’s comments are loaded with mindless cliché and generalizations. Consistency is certainly not your strong point, maybe you should cut back on the OG Kush there sparky.

  23. You’re going to lose this fight eventually because my generation is the future, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.–Your generation?
If you voted for Perot as you said in an earlier comment, that would mean you were born in 1974 or earlier, hearing the “my generation” shtick from someone in their 40s is laughable.

  24. I think the outlook for Cruz is bad. If Hillary wins on the superdelegates, i think her chances of being elected go up in smoke, and that would leave Trump.

Maybe Trump will turn out OK, but that’s not the way to bet. OTOH, people need to get over the idea that there will be a Political messiah who will set things right. It ain’t gonna happen.

  25. …because allowing that kind of big money into politics undermines democracy Democrats, and has lead to full fledged oligarchy….

    FIFY

Funny how your way also leads to the same point. You’re trying to fight human nature, and that’s always a losing cause.

  26. LOL right on cue Mix believes there is some invisible court order banning me from mention him ev-ah and apparently Stacy McCain is my employer!

    Talk about terminal stupidly

  27. I know about them, and while there are people that go overboard on those things, there have been serious problems from water flouridation. I’ve had at least one of them.

  28. Under the legal doctrines extant, they are a public accommodation and do not have the right to discriminate. That they have deep enough pockets to win such suits is another issue. And if they win, they simply demonstrate that people are not equal before the law. Several bakers, Florists and venue owners can already attest to that.
