by Smitty
Hot Air has the audio clip. It’s a relatively obvious troll. It underscores the notions that either (a) Trump isn’t even slightly serious about the job for which he’s purportedly campaigning, or (b) if there is a serious bone in his body, it’s dislocated from any real competence.
I’m actively curious as to how anyone with even the tiniest bit of ‘Evangelical’ leaning could possibly support Trump. If you want to study a religion that cleaves closer to Hammurabi, as Trump appears to do here, have a glance at what Islam teaches.
Trump’s favorite Bible teaching: “An eye for an eye,” of course https://t.co/04kcOcbI2a
An eye. Foreign eye. #BegoneTrump

It’s not a good sign
You just lost another reader. Fuck you.
I don’t think Trump is trolling. That is probably one of his favorites. It is also clearly one of Obama’s and Hillary’s guiding principals, but they are too canny to come out and say it.
It’s kind of hard to reason with “Fuck you.” But then, it’s kind of hard to reason Trump supporters. One day he says, “I’m for X…always have been,” and his crowds cheer. The next day, “I’m for not-X…always been clear about that,” and the crowd cheers….then they go on talk shows and argue that X and not-X are consistent and coherent. Sites like this need hits, so it’s not my place to say that you aren’t welcome…esp when I know that you are welcome here…with open arms. I wish you’d stay and make the case for the Orange-faced, stubby-fingered, biblical illiterate but you’d rather stomp your little feet, curse and slam the door on your way out. You might want to try Gateway Pundit…it’s chock-a-block with “lyin’ liar Ted references, Lewendowski apologetics, and explanations of how following century-old rules is stealing. Maybe you’ll come back once the wall is up. We’ll send a chariot drawn by unicorns to pick you up.
Heh. I liked his answer. Justice is important.
easy – the rest of the field consists of SNAKES
so, complain all you like.
Eye for an eye is an excellent philosophy for government. The entire concept of justice is based on it.
Are you trolling Jacksonians on purpose, or do you just not care?
Self-contradictory. Dumb or mean, pick one.
So who do you tnink is the most qualified to be the POTUS?
So tell me who is the most qualified to be the POTUS, then.
I agree. It’s sad when you look at our laws. Clearly, the purpose of our justice system is to try and be nice, and to protect thugs from us.
The premise of #BlackLivesMatter is false on three fronts: cops prevent harsher vigilantism, blacks are their own worst enemies, and everyone matters.
Meh. It’s Exodus 21, and it’s purpose is to limit punishment, not to license vengeance, or to deny the retributive nature of Justice.
God understands that, he sent the Angel of Death after the wee ones of Egypt.
How about you start with not insulting the person you’re talking to, hmmm?
Smitty calls us chumps, and then wants a convo?
Among the five that are left? Ted Cruz, by a country mile. Everyone else is a Democrat or Democrat-lite.
Why choose? Add self-important, rude and incoherent to the mix and let’s party!
Lighten up, Francis.

Cruel but fair.
Someone who hasn’t said that Hillary would make a good President. Someone who didn’t back John Kerry for president. Someone who wasn’t until recently a lifelong Democrat. Someone whose kids can vote for him in the primaries because they aren’t registered Democrats. Someone whose top advisors can vote for him in the primaries because they aren’t registered Democrats. Someone who hasn’t insulted American POWs who were kept in cages and tortured in Vietnam. Someone who doesn’t think eminent domain for “economic development” is a good idea. Someone who doesn’t reflexively sue anyone in his way, but mostly sues old people so that he can take their property on the cheap. Is that enough of a hint?
None of the above. This year more than ever. Call it the Supermarket theory of government.
If you can’t walk away without buying anything, it’s not really a choice, is it?
[…] Trump Trolls His ‘Christian’ Chumps […]
Sounds good! You go first! Hmmm?
OK, you think Smitty called you chumps. Fair. Was your first instinct to tell him to eff off, stomp your little hoof and abandon all hope or to stand like a man and reason? I wish someone had tried to make that point…
Please explain why you think he’s being cruel because I seriously don’t get it. He’s hurt that I called Trump names, so he reacts like Trump. I get it. Cruel? Little girls hit harder.
Tell us what parts of the Bible to disavow so that we can be in your good graces.
Is turning the country’s other cheek or giving the country’s coat or walking an extra mile to make nice with Iran’s ayatollahs your idea of the kind of President you want? Christ has the power to forgive our sins so that on the last day we can gain entrance to heaven. But the last I read the Bible the President does not have that power. So I’ll try to keep in mind that there’s really a difference between temporal and heavenly rulers.
Try to keep in mind that the President is not supposed to be Jesus; they have different roles. Jesus rose from the dead after he was crucified so that you could have everlasting life if you believe in him. The role of the President is to keep you from being crucified.
What he meant to say is that his favorite Biblical quote is “to see your enemies driven before you and to hear the lamentation of ze wimmin”
I was being ironic, and referring to your post, not Daniel Freeman’s. He asking to choose between “dumb or mean” in regard to your post, and I offered instead, “cruel but fair.”
“Cruel but fair” was once a familiar phrase, I don’t remember its origin. I think I saw it on a girl’s T-shirt in the inner sleeve of a Rod Stewart album. It’s meant to be funny.
I’m pointing out that not only is Trump not Jesus; hid words indicate that he may not follow Jesus in any meaningful way.
Cruz, beyond rational question. He’s most certainly the smartest person in the race, perhaps in politics. He’s unquestionably the most principled.
Would have been laudable if he’d said that.
And I’m pointing out that if you want a President who turns the other cheek to your enemies and gives everything you have to others while going the extra mile with people like the ayatollahs you must think that Obama is Jesus and are ecstatic that he’s our President.
Watching a Cruzite try to issue a polite challenge is like watching a toddler try to walk.
Delightful and amusing.
Nevertheless, one of my first responses is to remind myself that reason rarely reaches people. I suppose, stand and stare in dismay at the behavior on display.
Yup…
Yer right about that.
Trump was quoting from Two Corinthians. Right after the part where God helps those that help themselves.
BWAHAHAHA! Most lulz comment so far!
Wasn’t it Twain that said the mark of an educated man was being able to quote Shakespeare and the Bible and the ability to tell the difference?
Donald…not so much!
It’s good to always keep that in mind.
So, turning to the problem at hand, i.e., temporal rulership, I personally refuse to consider a candidate who is incompetent and possibly senile (Sanders), one who is, from what we’ve seen, satanically evil (Clinton), or a pathological liar (Trump).
Ben Shapiro put together a pretty good list of Trump’s lies (so far). Oh, but then, they all lie, don’t they? I’d argue, not as blatantly as Trump, but that’s not even what bothers me. Of course we’re talking about the temporal and not the spiritual, but when a man claims to be a Christ follower, and yet, I see NO fruits of the Spirit demonstrated at all, that man is not a Christian, and indeed, it could be argued that he has denied Christ by denying His Lordship over his life.
To many people, that won’t matter, but lying about something as serious as that speaks volumes about the man and the contents of his heart. At least to me it does. Was Smitty a bit harsh in his “evangelicals as chumps” comment? Possibly, but the point remains. And I say, if the shoe fits, etc.
I never knew that we had so many people concerned about the state of a candidate’s soul as a condition of leadership. While I’m a Christian I’m fully prepared to vote for someone who is not if I consider that person right for the job or at least better than the alternatives.
This entire discussion about Trump’s Christianity reminds me of the last election where Romney was asked about abortion. The question came out of the blue for the sole purpose of bringing up the old claim that republicans were waging a war on women. And, of course, there was an underlying current of bigotry against Mormons which may have kept some evangelical Christians home on Election Day.
So the question of the day seems to be whether Trump is a good Christian. I’m not aware that Trump ever brought up his faith except as the answer to a question. Is he a great Christian? No. Great Christians don’t go to church only at Christmas and Easter. He doesn’t teach Sunday School. He probably works on Sunday and owns casinos where there’s gambling. I’m fairly confident that he’s broken all Ten Commandments. And he exaggerates. Some say he lies. Fine. He’s been married three times and has had had sexual relations with women not his wife. But if we’re going to invoke Jesus let’s remember what He said about the woman caught in adultery “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Is he a good person? Compared to who? Saint Timothy called himself the chief of sinners so I’m shocked, shocked to find so many upright people with the authority to denounce Trump for his manifold sins. The funny thing is that all his wives, present and past still like him. His children honor and support him, which – let us be reminded – was not true of Saint Reagan. Others have vouched for his charity to some people in need. And he has provided jobs for tens of thousands of people who work for him.
So hate him, denounce him, swear to vote against him, but don’t use the shopworn excuse that it’s his lack of Christian virtues that makes you do that. It makes you a hypocrite.
By the way, while I believe that the Democrats running for office are very, very bad, and will help destroy this country. But to say that Bernie is senile, that Hillary is satanic and that Trump is a pathological liar really does not make your argument more convincing.
Someone who wasn’t until recently a lifelong Democrat.
Not sure where this meme started. The Village Voice did an article on his voting history ca. 1985 and from the time he registered to vote (in 1969) to the time that article was published, he’d been registered Republican in New York. Not sure when, if ever, he changed it, but he certainly was not a ‘lifelong Democrat’. Your buff card is public information as are printed voter registers, so any reporter can go to the New York County Board of Elections and get the documents on his registration and voting history; he’s pretty much lived in the same county for 40-odd years. There should be no confusion on this point.
Referring to two Corinthians just proves he’s a heathen! Is it too late to crucify him?
George Bush the Younger, George Bush the Elder, and Ronald Reagan had fairly concordant and conventional religious opinions and affiliations. So did Calvin Coolidge. It can get complicated, though.
1. Mitt Romney: a Mormon by profession and someone with Mormon behavior patterns. Reconciling the Mormon affiliation with some of the positions he’d taken over the years is a puzzle.
2. Robert Dole: very much a blank. I’m sure he listed an affiliation on some form when asked. Please note, one thing Dole had in his history that very few men born in 1923 do is having been the plaintiff in a divorce suit brought for no good reason and against the better judgment of his devoted and patient 1st wife. Ronald Reagan was the defendant in a suit like that and John McCain’s separation from his first wife was less unilateral and incorporated less cruelty.
3. Gerald Ford: freemason; canonically-invalid marriage.
4. Richard Nixon: a nominal Quaker who volunteered for military service, sought out political office commanding troops, attended randomly selected Washington congregations, and enjoyed fancy things money could buy (in Key Biscayne and San Clemente). Private letters Nixon wrote in the 1930s suggest his actual religious profession was the sparest sort of liberal Protestantism, tending toward Deism. Pat Nixon seems to have had no clear familial religious history at all.
5. Barry Goldwater: Episcopalian of sorts (after his grandfather abandoned Judaism). Paid for an abortion for his daughter in 1958.
6. Dwight Eisenhower: the quote attributed to him suggesting an extreme religious indifferentism was likely an example of his famously garbled syntax. However, something of a blank. He joined the National Presbyterian Church in Washington after entering the White House. His maternal-side heritage was in the peace churches, though I do not think the whole family attended his mother’s congregation.
7. Thomas Dewey: Anglican. He was a book man, so likely pretty straightforward and standard-issue.
8. Wendell Willkie: Anglican married to a Catholic. He respected the marriage canon on both sides and would not divorce his wife. Lived with a mistress. Only one child.
9. Alfred Landon: Methodist. Nothing discordant AFAIK
10. Herbert Hoover: another Quaker seeking high office in command of troops. Don’t think he was quite the bon vivant Nixon was, but certainly acquisitive.
11. Warren Harding: Baptist and capable of using religious language in public speeches that Ted Cruz might not today. His marriage was more of a business partnership and he was something of a goofy romantic with his series of mistresses. One bastard child, born in 1919.
12. Charles Evans Hughes: Baptist, regular churchgoer, nothing discordant
13. William Howard Taft: Unitarian, albeit in the era which predated all the goofiness in that sect.
By my count, 10 of the last 17 Republican presidential nominees had a number of curios in their religious history.
There are many Christians that will not vote for the man for the very reason that he lacks the Christian virtues. If that makes them hypocrites to you, then their answer will be: I. Don’t. Care.
There is much more that a Christian has to worry about than being judged a hypocrite by some preening fool.
I’ve warned a number of leftists about the consequences destruction of the rule of law. So far, none have listened.
I agree strongly, but I think it unlikely in the extreme that he will be elected.
Given you are so conversant with Christian Theology, please tell the assembly here where it says that would apply in the case of ruler fulfilling his duties to his people.
Let me save you a bit of trouble. You won’t find it.
The largest surprise of all of this is the vehement insults that blog owners/writers hurl at the candidate they don’t like(more like hate with a white hot hate).
I can understand a strong opinion but why is it so necessary to insult your targets supporters? Do you believe that’s going to win any argument? Make them suddenly decide; “Oh your correct this person that I believe is correct is not and you made me realize this by insulting me and calling me names”?
This has gotten to the point that regardless of results, the party is fractured. We will remember those who gratuitously slandered and smeared us in the name of their chosen one.
And in the case of bloggers they’re going to find that once the election is finished, so will they be.
That’s not a threat or even a flounce, it’s just the facts. People tend to not listen to those who insult them, their intelligence, their children etc. So they gravitate elsewhere.
And we’ll wind up with a thousand bubbles all talking to themselves.
But not one of Trump’s fans have I ever heard of calling him a messiah or some sort of gift from God.
But I’ve heard plenty of that from Cruz supporters.
I also witnessed a lot of vitriol aimed at Trump supporters by those who oppose him. What good does it do to insult those I wuld think you would want to try to convince to take your side and abandon theirs?
Now it’s still one sided but Trump supporters have become more dismissive of those who find it easy to call them stupid, or ignorant or redneck or chumps.
And frankly that IS stupid on the part of someone writing in a blog that depends on repeat visits.
Wisdom here.;
