A Great Football Saturday

For the opening of The Other Podcast, I did “College Football Scoreboard,” figuring that every real American cares as much as I do, because if you don’t love college football, what are you, a Commie?

Assuming you are not a Communist, you had to love Saturday, because Alabama won big (of course), and there were some other good games.

First, Georgia came back with 16 points in the second half to defeat No. 7 Notre Dame 23-17. Now, the No. 3 Bulldogs were playing at home and were a two-touchdown favorite going into the game, but when the Irish took lead early — after recovering a fumbled punt return at the Georgia 8 — it looked like it might be a long day for the ’Dawgs. Led by their great quarterback Jack Fromm, Georgia quickly evened the score, and Georgia’s hard-fought win vindicated the SEC’s dominance.

Speaking of the SEC, Texas A&M played a good game against No. 8 Auburn, but even 17 points in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough. Cal-Berkeley, rated No. 23 nationally, had its hands full playing at unranked Ole Miss. Talk about a culture clash: The team from Antifa playing in Mississippi? Alas, the Rebels lost 28-20, but it was close.

Upsets were common this week: TCU (#25) got beat at home by unranked SMU, Arizona State (#24) lost at home to unranked Colorado, and unranked Pitt beat #15 UCF, but the real barn-burner was on the West Coast, where #19 Washington State was upset by unranked UCLA 67-63. Like, you scored nine touchdowns and still lost the game? Wow.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my enthusiasm. Football is awesome, and anyone who says otherwise is a Commie.
