Friday Fiction: 100 Word Challenge

“God has an email address?” asked Ernest, looking skyward.
“Wut?” mumbled dad.
“It’s an @ symbol in the sky,” but it was too far for Ernest’s finger to click.
Dad warmed to the moment on their camping trip. “You can think of prayer as God’s in-box.”
“He sure must get Him some spam.”
“Yeah, but, see, when it’s all your creation, even the frustrating bits about pallets of riches hung up in customs are all good.”
“So, if I sent God a prayer-email about getting a new XBox for Christmas, you think that He might forward that to you?”

  1. Sent this to our son who expedites shipping and truckers. He says the pallets in NYC an NJ are backed up for weeks. Independent truckers hate unions.

So yeah, it’s all good… except for unions.

  2. “Do you suppose cats have a soul?”, asked Lily, referring to the family’s tabby, Pounce deLeon.

“Of course not”, answered Nicky. “They toy with their prey before they kill and eat it. Plus, they lick their own butt. That’s messed up.”

    “So do dogs”, said Lily.

    Nicky nodded knowingly. “Exactly.”

For a moment, Lily pondered the philosophical implications. “He seems to know what we’re saying.”

“He does”, Nicky told her. “He wants you to go to sleep so he can kill and eat you.”

Lily didn’t believe it, but that night she slept with a bat next to her bed.

  3. Oh. I missed the part about the picture being inspiration. So here’s offering #2, which is probably a pretty good description.

Physicist Roger Peterson was sleeping peacefully at his workstation under the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, when he was jolted awake by his CERN lab assistant, Alice.

“Doctor, your drool permeated the beam pipe control unit! The dipole magnetic field is 30 teslas and climbing!”, Alice cried.

“So?”, Roger leered, remembering the dream Alice.

“So look at monitor 12…a string star is forming in the Earth’s atmosphere!”

“Is that what that green thing is?”, wondered Roger. “Doesn’t that mean the end of the world?”

“Probably, but YOLO, LOL”, Alice replied, as she posted the screen cap to her Instagram account.
