"One should either write ruthlessly what one believes to be the truth, or else shut up." — Arthur Koestler

Greetings from Delaware!

Posted on | September 14, 2010 | 29 Comments

DOVER, Delaware — Allahpundit is mystified by the GOP Establishment’s pronouncement that it is “cautiously confident” of a Mike Castle victory. Well, after their all-out slime attack on Christine O’Donnell, anything but a Geraghty-pleasing Castle landslide would be . . . well, a small wonder.

“Small wonder” being sort of a nickname for this tiny speck of a state. Surprisingly, parts of Delaware are still rural. Ten miles west of Dover, near the town of Hartly, you see Amish buggies riding past cornfields. And guess what was the first campaign sign I saw after crossing the border from Maryland?

It’s like some kind of an omen, I tell you! Also, I heard two O’Donnell commercials on the local talk-radio station. Even Ace of Spades is now predicting a O’Donnell victory, although my best source with Team Christine here — who doesn’t want to be identified — says, “It’s gonna be a long night.”

Polls close at 8 p.m. ET here, and  Primary Election Night HQ will soon be in operation. Say a prayer.

UPDATE: PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS HQ

You need theme music from Delaware’s own native son.

Sadly, Governor Christy is backing Castle. As Sarah Palin might say, you can see Chris Christy from Delaware. Then again, you can probably see Chris Christy from Maryland and Virginia too.

All right, I’m cheering for you O’Donnellites tonight.

I’ll enjoy the midnight edition of Hardball if that happens.

And if we can catch up in CT with Linda McMahon, maybe Christine O’Donnell can come back in DE. And hell, if we get CT, we don’t need DE, except of we’re shooting for 60 in 2012 or 2014.

Remember, O’Donnell had a slight lead in the general last month — it’s not impossible that she come back, if the party rallies ’round.

Actually, most of the great state of Delaware is rural. Get away from the cities and you’ll mostly find farmland. Chicken farms provide some of the best smells in the heat of summer (NOT).

Actually, I’m pretty much bummed out that the national Party, and most of the Punditry, didn’t just stay out of it.

My theory goes this way. Now that everyone (and I do mean everyone) has taken a side, it’s going to be hard to back off for the General.

Would I prefer Castle to a Democrat? Probably, some days. Would I prefer most anyone with a brain to Castle? Yes, every day. (Note that I said “…with a brain….” there.)

I don’t care if O’Donnell is as crazy as a Radiation Dump Rat. She’s still saner than Castle is.

Why are the Mainstream Republicans so shocked and stunned that O’Donnell has gone down in the polls? They’ve been telling the whole electorate that she slaughters babies on Halloween and uses their blood to season her Pumpkin Bars, and so on.

And they think I ought to donate money to them so they can do more of that that, too! Sheesh!

I’m in “Not one red cent” mode here.

Maroons! Or “Mainstream Beltway Republicans”, as you choose. Same song, different verse.

    @flenser, #10:

I like Chris Cristy too. But if Ronald Reagan (PBUH) were to resurrect himself and endorse Castle, I’d still not approve of him.

We all make mistakes, and I don’t think that most Politicians are any more immune to it than I am. Thus, if their judgment differs from mine?

I will think about the situation, but it’s for consideration, and that’s all. In this case, I’ve considered all the angles, bank shots, and ricochets.

    And I’m still with O’Donnell.

Not that it means a flipping thing. I’ve not only never lived in Delaware, I’ve only been there once, and that for about an hour.

Amazed there’s this much coverage of the primaries.

Other interesting race: Lamontaigne may take down Ayotte.
