Another Song for @AmandaMarcotte

Posted on | August 3, 2011 | 7 Comments

OK, it’s not quite up there with “Under My Thumb” as a sexist anthem, but the Beatles’ “You Can’t Do That” is still great rock-and-roll, so you know Amanda Marcotte hates it.

I’ve got somethin’ to say that might cause you pain.
If I catch you talkin’ to that boy again
I’m gonna let you down
And leave you flat,
Because I told you before,
Oh, You can’t do that.

Amanda Marcotte ?  Who?  I’ve seen the name before, but usually skip what “it” said.  I’ve had to use brain bleach so many times already ……

Ok, I’ll take one for the team.  Gotta pic?  Trying to see if she’s related to Ralph MadCow, of MSNBC fame.

How about “Run For Your Life” by Lennon, on the American version of Rubber Soul. That one would really drive her batshit.

Well I’d rather see you dead, little girl

Than to be with another man

You better keep your head, little girl

    Or I won’t know where I am

You better run for your life if you can, little girl

Hide your head in the sand little girl

    Catch you with another man

    That’s the end’a little girl

Well you know that I’m a wicked guy

And I was born with a jealous mind

And I can’t spend my whole life

Trying just to make you toe the line

    Let this be a sermon

    I mean everything I’ve said

    Baby, I’m determined

And I’d rather see you dead

Yeah, I kind of had that one in the back of my mind too. Good one. But you haven’t heard the really good version.

Here it is, the absolute best version of Run For Your Life ever recorded, by the Master of Metal. Better even than the Beatles version. If enough people sent Amanda Marcotte this video she might, well, prosecute you.

    Run For Your Life

That Beatles clip was filmed for their move A Hard Day’s Night, but if I recall correctly was cut from the film and the soundtrack album, but had already been released as the “B” side to Cant’ Buy Me Love, and was a top hit on its own (at one time in that period The Beatles held eight of the top 10 songs and 13 of the top 20).

For Amanda, because she is one of the last true romantics, I would suggest perhaps Tom Jones’ Delilah:

At break of day when that man drove away, I was waiting
I cross the street to her house and she opened the door
    She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

Oh, Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking .  .  .

That’s just creepy, but she probably already saw it when she was eight or nine and on an acid trip with her Mommy’s friend.
