First of all, my wife’s name is not Jane Smith. But Mrs. The Other Smitty heard this ad and was genuinely offended. The text:

Jane Smith! Your prescription’s ready for pick-up at the pharmacy counter!
Thank you! That was fast. How much do I owe?
No charge. This is covered without a co-pay now.
Then a narrator says: “Thanks to President Obama, the 99 percent of American women who use birth control could now hear this same message. You see, we scored an important victory when the President stood up for our health care, and guaranteed insurance coverage of birth control at no cost. He’s making sure women of all faiths, no matter where they work, can get contraceptive coverage. But extremists in Congress are trying to change the policy by making it harder for women to get birth control with no co-pay. Call Congress at 202-225-3121 and tell them to stand with President Obama and not between a woman and her birth control.”

Scored a victory? As my wife points out, birth control is a lifestyle drug–not, for example, a chemotherapy drug. We can save the analysis for why birth control is so important for National Offend a Feminist Week. Maybe the woman is a troglodyte in Wisconsin, where the sperm sort of roam the bog (they say). Birth control could, hypothetically, be an important tool for minimizing trog reproduction.

The real objection here is the Lefty distortion of what is important, and the dishonest claim to have helped, when, overall, the Left exacerbates problems. When, ever has government queering a market helped matters? Rarely if ever, according to Sowell.

Update: via House of Eratosthenes, Senator Blunt is trying to redistribute power to employers, and the White House is having none of it. The Postmodern Left is all about redistributing money; power, no’ so much.

    Not yet, they haven’t. Granted, the MFM will work overtime to build on the foundation set by their colleagues in the Progressive/Democrat Party, but those outside the beltway know what’s going on.

    That doesn’t mean the GOP shouldn’t flood the zone with the truth, as boring as that seems, because politics loves a vacuum. The truth can get sucked right up if we don’t make it extremely sticky.

    I have to agree.  My diabetes meds are not covered for no copay.  Neither is the medication my wife takes for her chronic degenerative neurological condition.   And yet somehow I’m expected to cough up HUNDREDS of dollars in drug copays a month by the Obama Regime — significantly more than what these women will save by getting the Pill for nothing.

    Maybe we should push for mandatory Viagra coverage, no co-pay, on the grounds that the mandatory Pill coverage discriminates against middle-aged and older folks, who also deserve active sex lives.  Then, once everyone screams and yells about how horrible it is to cover Viagra with limited health care dollars, we can extend the rationale to the Pill.  (At least ED is a dysfunction, of sorts; ovulation is what used to be called “normal” for women of child-bearing age.)

    …and 99%?  I’m not using the Pill.  I can count at least a dozen of my female friends who aren’t, either, and I don’t have over a thousand girl friends to whom I’m close enough to know the details of their ovulation.

    The culture of women, and being pro-women, is all about preventing the one thing that makes a woman a unique creature: motherhood.

    Not sure of the correct term, but to be a feminist, one must be against women in all their wonderfulness.

     Exactly.  More specifically, it’s a “rile up the base and rekindle interest in the disillusioned young” issue.

    Everything Obama has done since last spring has been solely to help his reelection, even if some of those actions have backfired.  But if reelected, he will return his full-time efforts to destroying America as we know it.

    So passing out birth control (of, I’m guessing the hormonal variety — which some women have a bad reaction to) like candy (because it’s free, free candy! who won’t like free freaking candy?!) “standing up for women’s health”?

    Or could it be that NARAL has a different agenda than the actual health of women?
