Fake Celebrity Account Fools Drudge, Crashes Twitter With Endorsement

Posted on | October 16, 2012 | 33 Comments

If you were on Twitter last night, you might have noticed that the notorious “fail whale” made its unwelcome appearance for a while: Twitter was over capacity, and now we know why:

Drudge Report posted a headline that would likely perplex anyone who has followed the politics of various Hollywood celebrities.
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal, the news site read, has officially endorsed Republican candidate Mitt Romney for president.
The proof? Well, the outspoken liberal celebrity tweeted it . . .
Except one thing. That’s not Gyllenhaal’s actual Twitter account.
As others have documented before, the Twitter handle @Jake_Gyllenhaal is a fake account made by a fan.

The traffic surge from the mistaken headline — which appeared atop the left-side column at Drudge — was enough to push Twitter past capacity until the headline was removed later in the evening.

Speaking of Drudge and Twitter, I noticed this from Michelle Malkin:

What’s up with that? Why would Drudge be linking articles from 9/11 Truther Alex Jones’s InfoWars site — a Friday article by Michael Snyder and a Monday article by Paul Joseph Watson were both headlined by Drudge — rather than linking Malkin’s Twitchy site?

Considering how much traffic a Drudge link throws, why encourage an obnoxious conspiracy theorist who (and I remember it well) sicced a mob on Malkin at the 2008 Democratic convention?

Desperate to salvage the fizzled demonstration, 9/11 nutball Alex Jones started barking at me and attempting to make a scene and incite a riot.

Here’s the video in which you’ll see Charlie Martin of PJ Media acting as ad hoc bodyguard for Malkin while Alex Jones calls them “neocons” who “help destroy this country” and “sell it out to the New World Order,” declares that 9/11 was “an inside job,” then begins whipping up the anarchist mob that shouts, “Kill Michelle Malkin!

Well, it’s a free country, but exactly why the hell would Matt Drudge want to throw traffic at someone like that?

I’ve been wondering the same thing; what kind of lunacy would lead Drudgiepoo to pimp that nutjob? Or has he become so hand-off in running the site that the hired help are the ones picking the links? Because there have been some odd things showing up on his page lately….

I’ve been puzzled by this too. I’ll click on something and end up at Infowars, then have to figure out how to get the crazy out of my memory.

I fell for it. I assumed it was true when on Drudge and it was being RT. Oh well, it was still funny. Could you imagine the weeping over at Sully’s place if Jake Gyllanhaal was oriented for Romney?

OMG! OMG! I totally can’t believe this. It’s awful, simply awful. Well, maybe it might possibly be, if I knew who Jake Gyllanhaal was. Celebrities are really only for name-dropping purposes, anyway.

I remember that incident with Malkin, very well. I forgot it was Alex Jones. Scumbags everywhere (and I mean the “brothel” definition of the word) thank him for being further down on the totem pole of life.

I haven’t missed Drudge’s site at all, since dropping it out of my bookmarks a few years ago. He’s part of the Axis of Squish.

Can’t Malkin afford a Mod at her Twitchy site? Some of the comments would get you banned at Ace’s. (Maybe even Reason .com)

I thought the English went through Wales and straightened out all those weird names.

They should have used “Strine” instead of British English. Then the names for things like “Abbycwmhir” would have easy to spell, common names like “Rotten Sack” or “Wobbly Dingus.”

Wife™ asked, while we were watching one of his movies (bless me, I can’t recall which; probably the gay cowboy) “Just looking; Do you like this guy?”
“He’s one of them hipsters I would not piss on if he was on fire.”

There’s nothing wrong with Alex Jones that a 2 x 4 couldn’t fix. He is a real tough guy with 90 lb women, but he is just begging to get his teeth knocked out, isn’t he? I have never seen that video before, but it sure makes you want to accidentally run into him at a bar in Austin, doesn’t it? He would be one of those guys that after you whip his ass, and he’s laying on the ground, you break ribs on both sides so he’ll remember you. If you look up the word pussy in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of Alex.

Yes, I know one person Amar Kanwal @amarkanwal with millions of fake followers on
Twitter. He posted a fake biography of himself online. A lot of my
    friends already know about this.

    I saw a tweet that
fake Amar Kanwal sent out, and I searched that tweet on Google. All the
accounts that retweeted that tweet were suspended. lol
