Our Long National Nightmare Is Over

By which, of course, I mean Monday. It’s now 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday, and so I kept my vow not to say a word about Re-Coronation Day.

Others who chronicled the event now have stains on their pants from the orgasmic gush. Chris Matthews emitted his usual effusion of idiocy, and over on the Third-Place Cable News Network With Lower Ratings Than MSNBC (The One That People Only Watch When They’re Stuck in Airports), Jim Acosta was trying to out-gush Matthews:

“You know, I feel like I should pinch myself right now, Wolf. I can’t believe I have this vantage point of history in the making . . . It’s good to be the President. It’s almost like being a rock star on every street corner of Washington on this day.”

Further mockery from The Lonely Conservative, American Power and Poor Richard’s News. This stuff does not amuse me. It depresses me.

Our nation is being destroyed, and the press corps is reduced to the role of partisan pom-pom girls for The Great Destroyer. Meanwhile, the alleged leaders of the opposition have no clue of how to rescue themselves from their current condition of helpless impotence. The search for any reason to smile amid this catastrophe — which I blame entirely on the gross ineptitude of the overpaid dimwit fratboys running the Republican Party — turns up precious few nuggets of encouragement:

The bimbo was a guest Monday on Anderson Cooper’s show on the Third-Place Cable News Network With Lower Ratings Than MSNBC (The One That People Only Watch When They’re Stuck in Airports). Her “brand” is even more irrelevant than her failed father, assuming that such complete irrelevance is even possible.

It’s going to be a long 1,460 days ahead.

  1. The good news is we’re now in backs-up-against-the-wall time. We don’t have to play nice anymore, because if we do, we’re dead.

So the only rational view is, today was the first day of the end of this half-century’s adventure into the folly of statism. We either kill it, or it kills us. I know which end of that stick I plan to be on.

  2. LOL…no need to be so pessimistic.

At least you didn’t have to attend a Democratic fundraiser tonight. Sad to see so many people not know the dire condition this country is in.

  3. It’s imperative that you do whatever you can to insulate yourself and your family from the clown show that is Washington D.C. Get out of debt ASAP, I just did. Adhere to the old virtues of rugged individualism, self reliance, saving for a rainy day and spending less than what you take in. You know, the values that made this nation great.

  4. I blame entirely on the gross ineptitude of the overpaid dimwit fratboys running the Republican Party

In a nutshell, that’s the problem w/the GOP leadership. They are clueless and out of touch with those of us in the “base.” After 2 disasterous presidential campaigns in a row, I won’t vote for anyone who is “ordained” by those fratboys…

  5. President Obama could burp and Tingles Matthews would call it a Gettysburg Address.

An intellectually honest professor of journalism (and it hurts to say that journalism actually has professors considering the bilge academia puts out) would teach the lost sods it calls students: “See that guy, Matthews? Don’t be like him. Whatever he does… do the opposite.”

  6. The people at TWNBC (formerly The Weather Channel) kept saying, “All eyes are on Wahington, D.C.” — and I kept saying, “That word you keep using, ‘all?’ I don’t think it means what you think it means.”

About the 17th time I said it my wife gave me a patented Michelle Obama eyeroll.

  7. I liked Moe Lane’s comment about it: “Have to say, treating the second Inauguration as a somewhat cheesier sequel to a film that wasn’t really all that good to begin with turned out to be the smart option.”

  8. I was expecting it to be like the live-action remake of Rankin-Bass’ “The Year Without a Santa Claus,” which aired only once and made the subsequent Rankin-Bass sequel to the original look good by comparison.

So, was it really not as bad as I expected?

  9. “It’s almost like being a rock star on every street corner of Washington on this day..”
I’ve gotten that in Columbus, OH every St. Patrick’s Day for 30 years….as a Drum Major in the Shamrock Club Pipes and Drums!

  10. Ow. Considering the sequel was about as painful as removing your own eyeball with a corkscrew, I think I’m very glad I missed that remake.

  11. Heh, it’s being reported now that Beyonce’ lip-sync’d the Star-Spangled Banner. How appropriate, a fake national anthem for a fake President.

  12. […] -Stacy McCain sums up things quite well: Our nation is being destroyed, and the press corps is reduced to the role of partisan pom-pom girls for The Great Destroyer.
