A 22-year-old woman, only identified as Soopika P, died from her injuries early on Saturday morning after she was attacked in the early hours in the German town of Ahaus, close to the border with the Netherlands in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. . . .
Chief Prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt said: “She died shortly thereafter in the hospital. The background to the crime is still unclear.
“A large number of stab wounds were found in the upper body and neck. The considerable blood loss inevitably led to the death of the young woman.”
Local media reports said woman had been stabbed in the head multiple times. . . .
Soopika, who had moved to Germany from Sri Lanka with her family, had lived in Ahaus for a number of years and had wanted to work with children after having had experience working in youth welfare.
According to reports, she was very popular, had many friends and loved playing keyboard and violin in her spare time.
Police chief Herbert Mengelkamp who is investigating the attack said that a Nigerian man was suspected of having carried out the killing. . . .
And prosecutor Botzenhardt confirmed: “A 27-year-old asylum seeker from Nigeria had been trying to develop a relationship with the 22-year-old woman in recent weeks. He is suspected of having killed the woman. This is why the Münster public prosecutor’s office has applied for an arrest warrant on a charge of manslaughter.”
The Nigerian was arrested Tuesday at a train station in the Swiss city of Bern after a Europe-wide arrest warrant was issued for him after he fled Ahaus where the murder occurred. Chief prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt said, “Only yesterday, the prosecutor’s office ordered the European-wide call for arrest on the basis of the existing national arrest warrant. Today’s arrest of the suspect in Switzerland is a quick success,” Swiss paper Blick reports. . . .
The case of Soopika’s murder is just the latest of a number of murders of women who have worked with asylum seekers. The most famous case in Germany was that of Maria Ledenburger who was raped and killed by a 17-year-old Afghan asylum seeker on her way home. Like Soopika, Ladenburger also volunteered her time helping asylum seekers.
A similar murder also occurred in Sweden last year when a Somali migrant stabbed asylum centre worker Alexandra Mezher to death in a home for underage migrants.
Slogans about “diversity” are no substitute for good policy.
German officials issued a bulletin seeking Berlin terror suspect Anis Amri.
Immediately after Monday’s deadly truck rampage in Berlin, it was reported that police had apprehended a Pakistani suspect in the Islamic terrorist attack. However, evidence showed that a Tunisian immigrant — a man well-known to European anti-terrorism authorities — was the actual perpetrator. He managed to elude capture for three days:
Video has emerged of the Berlin Christmas market attack suspect Anis Amri pledging allegiance to ISIS. The footage emerged hours after he was killed in an early-morning shootout in Milan on Friday morning.
The Tunisian man, who has been the subject of a Europe-wide manhunt since Monday’s market attack in which 12 people were killed, was stopped in Sesto San Giovanni — a district in the northeastern part of Milan — just after 3am local time, Italian police said on Twitter. . . .
When the man was asked for his papers by Italian police, he pulled a .22 calibre gun out of his backpack and fired at them. . . .
The driver of the police car returned fire, killing the 24-year-old suspect. . . .
Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti said the man shot was Amri “without any doubt.” The Tunisian had previously lived in Italy. . . .
Italian news agency ANSA said Amri arrived in Milan by train from the French region of Savoy. . . .
It suggests that Amri passed through at least two European borders after fleeing Berlin. . . .
German officials are now working to determine whether Amri had a network of people helping him flee from Germany to Italy, German federal prosecutor Peter Frank said.
Amri was considered to be one of the most dangerous Islamists in the country months before Monday’s attack, according to German intelligence officials.
He was put on a German security services list of dangerous people in March, which currently includes 549 individuals. . . .
(Via Memeorandum.) So, a Tunisian who was on a German security watch list nevertheless managed to pull off a major terrorist attack in Berlin, eluding authorities in Germany, crossing the French and Italian borders without anyone noticing and, if he had not randomly encountered a police patrol in Milan, Anis Amri might have escaped altogether.
Is anyone surprised by this? Europe’s political elites have effectively surrendered their countries to Muslim invaders. The elite have celebrated this invasion — #RefugeesWelcome, as Emma Watson says — while claiming that the real danger is “Islamophobia” and the “far right.” Even when police are successful in identifying dangerous Muslim extremists, government policies prevent them from taking measures to prevent terrorist attacks, because political leaders are under constant pressure from left-wing activists in the media to protect the so-called “refugees.”
People in Europe are being slaughtered by Muslims because European governments have effectively abolished their own borders, and anyone who complains about this insanity is denounced as a far-right “racist.”
In a rerun of the Bastille Day terrorist attack in Nice, a truck driver plowed a 7-ton semi through a bustling Monday evening Christmas market in Berlin, Germany, causing mass carnage for which the Islamic State quickly took credit.
Berlin police said on Twitter, according to a computer-assisted translation by The Washington Times, that “12 people lost their lives.” The same tweet put the injury toll at 48.
According to the Berliner Zeitung newspaper, Berlin Mayor Michael Muller said “the situation is under control” with a suspect in custody and the public threat over.
The Berlin police said the truck contained two men, one of whom “died on the spot.” A man suspected of being the driver “was arrested in the vicinity.”
“The backgrounds are still unclear,” the Berlin police wrote on Twitter. But according to the German newspaper Die Welt, “indications are gathering that the arrested truck driver is Pakistani.”
The Twitter feed of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Force said that the Islamic State was claiming credit for the Berlin attack, based on jihadist accounts the IPMF tracks using encrypted technology.
“The perpetrator was an 18-year-old German-Iranian from Munich,” police chief Hubertus Andrae told reporters after the massacre.
“The motive or explanation for this crime is completely unclear.”
Yeah, it’s “unclear” why this young Muslim committed a massacre.
The Bavarian Interior Ministry said three people were dead, NTV television reported. A Munich police spokeswoman said multiple people were killed or wounded.
“We believe we are dealing with a shooting rampage,” the spokeswoman said.
More than one gunman was believed to be involved and no one had been arrested, she said.
“We believe there was more than one perpetrator. The first reports came at 6 p.m., the shooting apparently began at a McDonald’s in the shopping center. There are still people in the shopping center. We are trying to get the people out and take care of them.”
Early reports on such events are always confusing, and often wrong. Right now, it is being reported that there were at least three gunmen, but we must be patient and wait for the facts to be sorted out.
Munich is in lockdown tonight as at least six people have been killed and 10 injured in a shooting rampage involving three gunmen.
A major police operation is ongoing around the city’s Olympic Park, with the force warning people to stay in their homes and avoid public spaces as they admitted they don’t know where the gunmen are.
Terrified shoppers were seen running for their lives from the Munich Olympia Shopping Centre, in the district of Moosach, after hearing gunshots. Witnesses said that the gunman screamed ‘I’m German’ and ‘Scheiss Auslander’ (s*** foreigners) before shooting.
This report is not confirmed, but if true, it would indicate some kind of nationalist anti-Muslim motive. We await more information.
UPDATE 4:40 p.m. EDT: The death toll now reportedly stand at eight. There were reportedly three gunmen, one of whom shot himself. However, we know nothing about who the shooters are, and can only speculate about a motive.
According to local media, the ninth dead person is believed by police to be one of the killers. His body was found 45 minutes ago on a green stretch near the Olympia shopping centre; 1km away from the scene of the crime.
The veteran police reporter Oliver Bendixen told Tagesthemen that the body found was believed to be that of the perpetrator who opened fire in front of the McDonald’s restaurant.
The identity of the shooter is unknown, and nothing has been confirmed as to the motives for this attack. Linked at American Power — thanks!
Feminism Is a Totalitarian Movement to Destroy Civilization as We Know It, and feminists therefore advocate (as “intersectionality”) a de facto alliance with any enemy of Christianity, capitalism and democracy. Those of us old enough to remember the Cold War know that feminists defended Soviet imperialism in Cuba, Nicaragua, Angola and elsewhere. So-called “Second Wave” feminism originated in the radical New Left of the 1960s, and in the 1980s feminists were among the most outspoken enemies of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, whose policies ultimately defeated what Reagan called the “Evil Empire.” Like every other movement of the Left, feminism is anti-social in its motives and destructive in its purposes, advocating a poorly understood goal (“equality”) that is impossible in reality, even if it were desirable in theory. Friedrich Hayek explained this long ago in The Mirage of Social Justice, and the Left simply ignored him, so there is no point explaining why the Left is wrong. If they would not listen to a Nobel Prize-winning economist, they’re not going to pay attention to me, but I digress . . .
Cologne authorities say it’s impossible to guarantee 100 percent security for the German city’s famous Carnival celebrations starting this week, but security forces will be out in force to try to ensure people can enjoy the events without fear.
In the wake of a string of robberies and sexual assaults in the city on New Year’s Eve blamed largely on foreigners, police chief Juergen Matheis said Monday he’s doubling the number of officers on hand compared with last year to more than 2,000, and also bringing in 350 cadets.
Video surveillance is also being added, and local police are coordinating closely with federal counterparts, fire and rescue units and others.
Notice the politically correct omission of the word “Muslim” from that Associated Press report and notice, also, how the article shifts the perspective — “sexual assaults . . . blamed largely on foreigners” — to signal the reader not to ask, “Who committed these crimes?” but rather to wonder, “Who blamed foreigners?” It is the implied hostility toward “foreigners” that the Associated Press finds objectionable, rather than the behavior of these “foreigners,” whose identity is never specified, so that we might imagine Taiwanese tourists or American exchange students were terrorizing women in Germany. The best way to cover Muslim violence, according to the liberal media, is to pretend that it doesn’t exist.
ITEM 1: Ercan Yasaroglu, a famous German social worker, said in a recent interview that the violence that happened in Cologne on New Year’s Eve is now routine in many German cities: “Once it gets dark, drugs are sold and passers by are robbed. They act in groups, stalking their victims, for example, at an ATM. . . . Meanwhile, there are also these sexual assaults. Girls who are surrounded and groped.” The perpetrators are “young guys from North African countries.”
ITEM 2: In the small German town of Bad Schlema, Mayor Jens Müller caused outrage at a town hall meeting when he told residents their children must stay away from certain areas and “not provoke” migrants to avoid sexual harassment, as well as suggesting they need not worry because German men are a “problem” too. One resident, who expressed concern for his 10-year-old granddaughter, told the mayor that “girls have been harassed” by refugees. The mayor said: “It’s technically not necessary for the girls to walk near the refugee shelters, there are alternative routes.” When residents became angry at being told their children cannot walk in their own community, the mayor threatened to call police to have the indignant citizens removed from the meeting.
It is incorrect to suppose that feminists are merely stupid or misguided. They are active agents of evil. They hate honesty, decency and kindness, and love everything that is false, selfish and wicked.
It is not Brazil, alone, that is in shock after the greatest humiliation in World Cup history.
Those of us who have held the 1970 Brazil team of Pelé, Gérson, Tostão, Carlos Alberto and others as the pinnacle of how soccer can and should be played must now put Brazil’s capitulation on Tuesday as the nadir.
Germany was good — very, very good in trouncing the Seleção 7-1 in one of its own stadiums Tuesday. But we cannot yet know how good because this was not, as some have said, a ruthless German exhibition of modern soccer. It is a Germany team that has been six years in the making, a squad that has coasted through this World Cup so far.
In Belo Horizonte, Germany met no opposition. Brazil, shorn of its poster boy Neymar because of an injury and deprived of its defensive leader Thiago Silva because of a suspension, simply rolled over like a puppy afraid at the sight of a Rottweiler.
The aftermath of Brazil’s defeat could turn ugly. There were reports of a mass robbery at a fan party in Rio de Janeiro and of fans setting fire to Brazilian flags in the streets of São Paulo even before the match was over. Local organizers and government officials have been concerned for weeks about the possibility that demonstrations — which have, for the most part, been subdued — would become more intense if Brazil were to be eliminated.
Many Brazilians have been upset about the billions of dollars spent on new stadiums and other World Cup-related projects. The success of the national team provided a natural balm, but now those emotions may become more inflamed.
“The time of bread and circus is over,” said Lisa Rodrigues da Cunha Saud, who attended the game with her brother. “Instead of stadiums, we need hospitals and schools,” she added.
Anyway, another occasion for Twitter sarcasm.
Wow. The last time anybody got beat this bad by Germany, it involved Stuka bombers.
It was a more muted affair for President Obama in Berlin today as he spoke at Berlin’s iconic Brandenburg Gate before an invite-only crowd of 4,500 guests – a remarkable difference from the rock-star welcome he received five years ago in front of 195,500 cheering supporters.
Then, Obama had it all to play for – the glowing presidential candidate symbolizing America’s revived hope for the future. This time, he arrived back in Berlin under the cloud of NSA surveillance programs which have outraged many Europeans and the ever-growing crisis in Syria.
Some useless sack named Chris Matthews was trying to make excuses for why our Lawd & Savory bombed in Berlin:
Mrs. Other Smitty sends a Der Spiegel link that offers an external view of what remains one of the signature issues of this country, ObamaCare:
Germans Can’t Fathom US Aversion to Obama’s Healthcare Reform
Read the whole thing, but let me answer their section headings:
System Only Works if Everyone Takes Part The U.S. has a Constitutional system, with a limited federal government. Health care, as a SCOTUS ruling next month could well show (or not) is not a federal concern. Miriam Widman in Spiegel may also think that the EU is a swell, in contrast to Nigel Farage:
Competitive Advantage
“A healthy workforce is a more productive workforce and recent German statistics would back that up. The country has relatively low unemployment and in many sectors the economy is booming.”
Perhaps Widman is in the south of Germany, around Munich or Stuttgart. Those booms are the sounds of the Mediterranean economies imploding. OK, that’s a cheap shot. The correct answer here is what I’ll call the Global Warming Rule: you cannot make any comparative statistical assertions without making all source data, algorithms, and studies used to support the assertions available. Otherwise, the suspicion is that you’re engaged in what is crudely known as the “rectal pluck”. In a court of law, you’re innocent until proven guilty. In the court of trying to push a stochastic point, it’s the other way around.
Don’t Religious Americans Love Their Neighbors?
“For me the US is a very religious country. It doesn’t matter which religion I look at — love thy neighbor is a very, very important point in religion,” health insurance spokesperson Marini says. For her, the apparent deep religiousness of many Americans doesn’t jibe with their unwillingness to be part of a healthcare community.
While there is much faith in God amongst Americans, the Golden Calf of Progress isn’t getting much veneration in the U.S. As somebody who demonstrated against the evil 111th Congress, led by the Wicked Witch of the West* I can tell you that ObamaCare was as illegitimate in this country as that Treaty of Lisbon was in Europe. Anyone who thinks that good ends can come of governments disenfranchising the people they purportedly represent is a servant of Hell.
That somebody likes the German system is a swell thing. My German wife also cautions that if you’re going to get sick, better do it at the start of the quarter, while the system has money to treat you.
As the EU unwinds, hopefully the notion of liberty will abound there, and the Socialists won’t be too ungracious about admitting how daft they were.
Had a call from the John Dennis campaign today. Support him. He’s the guy who can demote Nancy from House Minority Leader to Retired, Anti-Communist Parable.
