“Somebody who’s going to work in responsible partnership with an administration that I think made the right choice on health care, on the stimulus, on the jobs bill.”
— Chris Coons
I invite The News Journal to try printing the name “Christine O’Donnell” in a paragraph that does not contain the term “tea party” or “ultraconservative.” . . .
The Journal’s blatant liberal spin involving Christine is doing liberals more harm than good. The more you attack her character and give space to those bent on doing the same, the more you advertise that the whole bunch of you are terrified that she will win in November.
Your fear is completely justified. Time will tell. . . .
— Kay Meade
The group in question, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), is funded in part by individuals who are members of the Democracy Alliance. The Democracy Alliance was created in 2005 by former members of the Clinton administration in conjunction with George Soros and other like-minded wealthy individuals, determined to have a greater influence in the political process. Despite the claims of CREW it is non-partisan, its record features far more calls for investigation of Republicans than Democrats, while the Democrats it has asked to be investigated have overwhelmingly leaned toward either the moderate side of things, or been ridiculously easy targets such as Charlie Rangel.
Yeah, there’s a trusted impartial source.
As Soros stands to gain potentially billions in revenue from Cap and Trade, a pledge to vote against the legislation is a top priority for O’Donnell. How far will Soros’ minions go to prevent her election?
“Ironic” is probably not the right word to describe the fact that O’Donnell — who, if elected Nov. 2, would become the poorest member of the U.S. Senate — is being targeted by a group funded by a greedy billionaire. “Predictable” might be a much better word.
As to the charge that O’Donnell is a “criminal,” well . . .
Of course, the obvious question is, why are all these RINO-hugging “experts” telling us that Christine O’Donnell isn’t “electable” as a senator — but Al Franken is?
UPDATE: Transcribed a little of this. Maher begins — where else? — with, “Speaking of sex . . .” He then talks about the Welfare Reform Act of 1996 (signed into law by that notoriously puritanical right-winger, Bill Clinton), and its provision of $250 million for sex education that teaches that “sex outside marriage is likely to have harmful psychological and physical effects.”
Now, this is another one of those situations — like Rachel Maddow’s sneer about O’Donnell’s anti-masturbation statements — where liberals think that all they have to do is roll their eyes sarcastically. Any claim about sex that contradicts liberalism, they apparently believe, is self-evidently ludicrous. O’Donnell dared to defend what liberals think is indefensible:
“Morality aside . . . look at it from a health issue. Twelve thousand teenagers a day are contracting sexually transmitted diseases. AIDS is very quickly becoming the number-one killer among teenagers. . . . So, we know how to prevent AIDS. We know how to prevent sexually transmitted diseases: Don’t have sex.”
Star Parker and O’Donnell were in solidarity on this issue, while the white males on the show — Maher, Franken and Ricky Schroeder — were all about “safe sex.” Yet the fact they want to ignore is this: There is no such thing as “safe sex”!
It’s a myth. Short of surgical sterilization, there is no fool-proof method of contraception. All contraceptive methods have what is called a “failure rate,” and even with a contraceptive that is 99% effective, that 1% failure rate can translate to thousands of unwanted pregnancies a year, if hundreds of thousands of people are using that product. And people who think they’re “safe” are obviously more likely to have sex with people with whom they don’t want to make babies.
This is why the widespread acceptance of contraception in American society has gone hand-in-hand with the rise of abortion — more than a million a year for the past 35 years, despite all the sex education, despite TV ads for condoms and birth-control pills, despite everything.
OK, so what about disease? Again, while the use of condoms can reduce the risk of contracting sexually-transmitted diseases, condoms cannot eliminate that risk. And for many STDs — including such serious diseases as herpes, chlamydia and HPV (genital warts) — using a condom may provide little or no protection.
This is simply a fact, and excuse the need for a bit of anatomical detail: Suppose that a woman has a herpes lesion somewhere on her vulva. During intercourse, will a condom cover every part of a man’s penis that might make contact with that lesion? And if everybody’s using condoms, isn’t it likely that a man who has herpes is most likely to develop lesions on the area of his penis (i.e., the base of the shaft) not covered by a condom?
Keep in mind, we’re not talking hypotheticals here. One in six Americans are now infected with genital herpes and — like so many consequences of the “Cultural Revolution” — women and minorities have been affected the worst:
Black women had the highest rate of infection at 48 percent and women were nearly twice likely as men to be infected, according to an analysis by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
About 21 percent of women were infected with genital herpes, compared to only 11.5 percent of men, while 39 percent of blacks were infected compared to about 12 percent for whites, the CDC said.
Are you paying attention? Nearly half of black women in the United States are now infected with this incurabledisease.
Thank you, liberal America!
Our sophisticated and enlightened elites can snark and sneer all they want, but the facts are on Christine O’Donnell’s side of the argument.
The First State Patriots, a major 9/12 group in Delaware, will be hosting a candidate forum tonight:
Our next meeting will be on Monday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Frog Hollow Golf Clubhouse in Middletown, DE. This month’s featured panel will be those candidates that successfully win their primaries on September 14th for national office.
Christine O’Donnell has accepted the invitation to appear at the First State Patriots event, while Democrat Chris Coons turned them down.
Remember that in their first debate Thursday — just two days after the primary, while Karl Rove was busy telling the world that O’Donnell wasn’t qualified to bring him a cup of coffee — the supposedly unqualified Republican candidate held her own against Coons:
The forum was an early test for O’Donnell, who . . . has never endured anything close to the national media storm that has descended upon her since she defeated Castle on Tuesday.
At times the pressure showed, but O’Donnell appeared to hold her own Thursday despite the intense glare. She repeatedly emphasized her concerns over the growth of government and stressed “private-sector solutions” on a range of questions.
That debate was at the Jewish Community Center in Wilmington — home turf for the Democrat — and he has so far turned down every other opportunity to debate until an Oct. 6 event sponsored by the Wilmington News-Journal.
Tell me again why O’Donnell can’t beat this bald-headed tax-raising Democrat even worse than she beat the septuagenarian RINO all the “experts” said she couldn’t beat.
This actually reminds us a lot of how Democrats tried to use Scott Brown’s ROCKING HOT Cosmo centerfold pictures against him, thinking calling the man “a former nude model” would prevent him from being elected Senator. The Democrat playbook is to find something they think will embarrass a person, attack him or her personally, and drive a wedge between that candidate and voters by turning the person into a pariah and laughingstock. . . .
“Drug policy should be decided at the state level, not the federal level.” . . .
Will McVay, Chairman of the Kent County Libertarian Party . . . stated that she “did not shy away from the libertarian label.”
Oh, look: That wacky witchyanti-wanking wingnut all the “experts” said could never beat Mike Castle has raised nearly $2 million in less than five days since she beat him. And she just got $20 from me. (Y’all have been so good about hitting my tip jar, I’d feel bad if I didn’t give a little.)
Put your money where your heart is, people: Fight back!
UPDATE: Putting aside for the moment that we’re talking about the Future of the Country, this Delaware fight is the best online entertainment value of the year! Anytime Jeff Goldstein decides to start pounding the hell out of Patterico, you know you’re going to get your money’s worth.
So she’s been hit, hit, hit for five consecutive days and raised nearly $2 million in that time. She’s still on her feet, you see.
Bloodied, but unbowed.
My gut hunch is that she’s taken the worst of it already. The Castle campaign dumped everything really damaging it had on her, and still lost. Can Democrats dig up anything worse, or else recycle Castle’s stuff to truly lethal effect? Kinda doubt it.
O’Donnell is a little more than 10 points down in the polls, but she’s up around 40% with six weeks to go in a Blue state against a bald guy who raised taxes three times in four years. Let me remind you that on Jan. 10 — just nine days before the Senate special election in Massachusetts — the Boston Globe poll showed Martha Coakley with a 15-point lead over Scott Brown.
“I dabbled into witchcraft. I hung around people who were doing these things. I’m not making this stuff up. . . . One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn’t know it. . . . We went to a movie and then had a midnight picnic on a satanic altar.”
Typical witch pickup line: “Want to go see a movie down at the multiplex and then . . . oh, I don’t know . . . hang out with Beelzebub?”
“I want to start by asking you to think back for a moment to about a year and a half ago . . . Remember the despondency, the anxiety, even a palpable fear for the future of our country. . . . Do you remember it? I know I do. And the conservative movement was told to curl up in a fetal position and just stay there for the next eight years, thank you very much. Well, how things have changed.”
— Christine O’Donnell, Sept. 17, 2010
Imagine for a moment that Republicans were not consumed with the various faults of the party’s newly chosen Delaware Senate candidate, Christine O’Donnell. What would GOP operatives, both in Delaware and in Washington, be doing right now? They’d be attacking the record of O’Donnell’s Democratic opponent, Chris Coons. As it turns out, there’s plenty to attack, if Republicans ever get around to it. Coons inherited a surplus. Celebrating victory on election night in 2004, he said his “top priority would be to continue balancing the budget without increasing property taxes,” according to an account in the local News Journal. Yet in 2006, he pushed through a 5 percent increase in property taxes. In 2007, he raised property taxes 17.5 percent. In 2009, he raised them another 25 percent.
Coons wanted to raise other taxes, too. He proposed a hotel tax, a tax on paramedic services, even a tax on people who call 911 from cell phones.
So here’s Coons, who never met a tax he wouldn’t raise, and all the genius intellectuals in the Beltway GOP establishment are running around saying that this Democrat can’t possibly lose.
In the famous words of the most successful politician in Delaware history: Big f***ing deal.
Christine has a lesbian sister named Jennie, whom I’m pretty sure I met Wednesday while I was filing from the lobby of the Fairfield Inn in Dover. I also met Christine’s father, her mother, her brother-in-law, etc.
True confession time: Two of my cousins are Democrats.
I’m not going to name them, because I’m not sure whether they’re out of the closet. It’s disgusting to think that my own flesh and blood would vote for the Party of Evil but, after all, I was myself a Democrat until I was 35 years old. There but for the grace of God . . .
Please notice that progressives automatically assume that Jennie O’Donnell’s sexuality somehow discredits Christine. The MSM would never dream of employing this tactic — what shall we call it? hypocrisy by association? — against a Democrat. Surely there must be at least one liberal Democratic member of Congress whose close relative is an NRA member, a Southern Baptist, or a Tea Party activist. But you will never see the liberal media do a feature story portraying a Democrat’s right-wing kin as being some sort of a rebuke of their relative’s liberal politics:
STUMPWATER, Mississippi — His beer-drinking buddies call him “Catfish” and think of him as a regular good-ole-boy, but none of them know that Arnold Frank has a famous brother, the gay liberal congressman from Massachusetts . . .
Never going to happen, you see? The media’s unquestioned assumption is that all intelligent people of goodwill are liberal Democrats. So people who aren’t liberal Democrats are therefore automatically objects of suspicion, whose views and associations must be investigated and exposed.
It is only Republicans who ever receive this kind of treatment. A Democrat’s family history and career associations can never be used to discredit them. Say, for example, that a Democrat’s father was a foreign socialist, that he went to Indonesia with his mother whom he subsequently described as a “secular humanist,” and he spent 20 years in a church with a radical preacher while palling around with terrorists in the most notoriously corrupt city in America . . .
Not a story. Nothing to see here. Move along.
O’Donnellphobia is like Palin Derangment Syndrome, where anyone who’s ever had a disagreement with Sarah Palin becomes a credible source for a hit piece.
It was in college at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey that O’Donnell did things she regrets — drinking too much andhaving sex with guys with whom there wasn’t a strong emotional connection.
And if she was a liberal Democrat or Meghan McCain, this would make no difference whatsoever.
Only because Christine O’Donnell is a conservative Republican do these thing get reported. Why? Because conservatives are evil and dangerous and lurking in your children’s closets!
It’s just like the “raaaaacism” thing: Left-wing fear-mongers keep beating that drum to remind everyone that America is always just one GOP victory away from The Dark Night of Fascism, when the stormtroopers come goose-stepping down Main Street, rounding up the masturbators and homosexuals and brown people and anyone else who doesn’t swear the Blood Oath of Eternal Allegiance to Newt Gingrich.
You know: Like 1959 all over again, when Eisenhower was president and Richard Nixon ate nine Jewish babies for breakfast every morning and liberal college professors were routinely burned at the stake.
