Franken for Wankin’

Christine O’Donnell’s anti-masturbation message is clearly a threat to Al Franken’s lifestyle choice:

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) will campaign this week for Delaware Democratic Senate nominee Chris Coons.
Franken . . . will stump Thursday for Coons, according to the Delaware Democratic Party.

Hey, hit the tip jar if you want me to go cover that. Meanwhile, a Wilmington News Journal columnist writes:

Coons should seriously consider resigning as New Castle County executive so he can put all his daily efforts into this campaign. . . . Coons is not running the county while he’s campaigning (some, of course, will say he hasn’t been running the county for months).

O’Donnell replied with a press release:

“Coons has been AWOL for months while cashing in his inflated, taxpayer-funded paycheck,” O’Donnell said. “He has continuously raised taxes on the people of New Castle County, while he offers them nothing back but an empty desk.” . . ..
“If Coons fails to show up for work every day in New Castle County, why should we expect him to show up for work in Washington while accepting money from taxpayers,” O’Donnell continued. “Many people in Delaware are struggling to find one job and going without a paycheck in the meantime, while their county executive is cashing his constituent-funded paychecks for one job, while campaigning for the next job.”

Kinda funny that Franken is campaigning in Delaware while Democrat Jim Oberstar is in trouble Minnesota.

EXCLUSIVE: O’Donnell Mailer Slams Democrat Chris Coons on Tax Increases

The Delaware Senate campaign of Christine O’Donnell opened its general-election campaign assault on Democrat Chris Coons, labeling him a “big spending, big taxing, typical politician” in a Tuesday statewide  mailing focused on Coons’ record as New Castle County executive:

As National Journal‘s Hotline On Call has reported, Coons “spearheaded one of the largest tax increases in state history” in New Castle County. The O’Donnell mailer, sent to tens of thousands of Delaware voters, notes that Coons promised during his 2004 campaign not to raise property taxes: “Then he broke that promise and increased property taxes by 48% and drove New Castle County to the brink of bankruptcy. Can we believe anything he promises us now?”

Some Republicans — including state party chairman Tom Ross — were disappointed by O’Donnell’s GOP primary upset of longtime Republican Rep. Mike Castle, and have been harshly critical of O’Donnell. However, in a Sept. 14 column, Byron York of the Washington Examiner urged Republicans to focus their criticism on the record of O’Donnell’s Democratic opponent:

Coons, 47, is the top executive of New Castle County, home to a majority of Delaware’s population. From a Republican perspective, there’s one really important thing to know about his time in office: In 2004, when Coons first ran for the job, he promised not to raise taxes. Since then he has raised taxes not once, not twice, but three times.
Coons inherited a surplus. Celebrating victory on election night in 2004, he said his “top priority would be to continue balancing the budget without increasing property taxes,” according to an account in the local News Journal. Yet in 2006, he pushed through a 5 percent increase in property taxes. In 2007, he raised property taxes 17.5 percent. In 2009, he raised them another 25 percent.
Coons wanted to raise other taxes, too. He proposed a hotel tax, a tax on paramedic services, even a tax on people who call 911 from cell phones.

The O’Donnell mailer demonstrates the Republican’s strategy of running a campaign targeted directly on the economic and budget issues that polls show are at the top of voters’ priorities in this year’s midterm elections.

There are indications that O’Donnell’s campaign has an edge in grassroots enthusiasm. Tuesday night, Coons brought in Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine for an event at the University of Delaware where, according to the Associated Press, “about 100 people” showed up. Meanwhile, at a nearby pizza restaurant, so many O’Donnell supporters turned out for a volunteer meet-up that it was “overflowing” with many forced to “stand out on the sidewalk,” Eric Dondero reported by telephone from the scene.

GOP Shocked as Sex Scandal Strikes Christine O’Donnell Carl Paladino?

Two words you never want to hear about your candidate: “Baby mama.” Unfortunately, we’re also going to hear some words from the woman done wrong by the Republican Party’s answer to John Edwards:

BUFFALO — It was just about a year ago, hours after the death of her son in a car crash, that Cathy Paladino’s husband told her he was the father of a 10-year-old girl with another woman — and that all their children and most of their friends already knew. . . .
Still, she was gamely following the dictate her husband’s campaign staff had issued . . .
“They had three words for me: ‘Get over it,’ ” she told The Post.

So the married New York GOP gubernatorial nominee fathered an out-of-wedlock child with a woman 17 years his junior. All you smart pundit guys, please tell me again why Christine O’Donnell can’t win in Delaware because she told MTV in 1996 that masturbation is sinful.

Like Magic!

In politics, self-deprecating humor wins. Take the joke and turn it around. Show them that you have a sense of humor about yourself. People made fun of Ronald Reagan as a “B-movie” actor, so he’d crack jokes about that. When they said he was too old to be president, he made jokes about his age.

Christine O’Donnell could make some of this stuff work for her. For instance: “Chris Coons raised taxes three times in four years. I think he should have abstained from raising taxes. I’m a firm believer in abstinence, you know . . .”

Or: “I tried wiggling my nose, but I couldn’t change Bill Maher into a Republican.”

Or brushing off reporters after an event: “I’d love to stay and answer your questions, but I’m in a hurry to get to my next meeting. Where’s my broomstick when I really need it?”

Speaking of humor, Allahpundit sends word that Bob Dole just endorsed Christine O’Donnell.

To which my friend Jim Lakely replied: “That’s the Viagra talking.”

Ba-da-BOOM!

Research Proves Christine O’Donnell Is Correct Again (With a Cherry on Top!)

An Australian researcher crunches the numbers and determines that the number of premarital sexual partners is directly correlated with the incidence of divorce. Which is to say, the more you screw around before marriage, the greater likelihood your marriage will end in divorce. And in terms of marital stability, the ideal number of pre-marital partners is . . . uh, zero.

Wintery Knight has lots more research with charts and stuff. And Steven Crowder makes a startling admission:

Yes, I admit it, I’m in a long-term relationship and I’m abstinent.

Wow. If you’ve ever seen Steven Crowder’s girlfriend, she’s smokin’ hot. I’m talking crawl-through-broken-glass-just-to-get-downwind-of-her hot.

So if Crowder can resist gettin’ busy with that kind of spectacular hotness, what’s your excuse?

Liberals who think they can score points by making a big deal of Christine O’Donnell’s career as an abstinence advocate? Just a bunch of wankers.

UPDATE: Liberals think this video from 2003 is supposed to be the silver bullet that kills Christine the Teenage Witch:

O’Donnell argues that teenagers are “not dogs in heat,” but are rational creatures who are capable of acting intelligently in their own best interests. Scandalous!

Please note that the author of this WaPo item about O’Donnell’s 2003 video, Greg Sargent, is a Journolist alumnus who said this about the Daily Caller revelations: “The real media conspiracy here is on the right. It’s a conspiracy to pretend that there’s a story here when there isn’t one.”

Of the O’Donnell video, Sargent predicts it’s going to be all over TV because it “reveals rather clearly how ambitious and zealous her abstinence crusade really was.” And this is relevant to O’Donnell’s Delaware Senate campaign . . . how?

Never mind: There are right-wingers ginning up fake stories, Sargent warns, while he is using his WaPo blog  to . . . gin up stories.

Said it before, and I’ll say it again: You can’t accuse liberals of having no standards. They’ve got exactly two — one for them and one for everybody else.

Christine O’Donnell, Right Again!

“And you can tell that Britney Spears is struggling with who she is. I think she has a team of agents and managers who are saying, yes, push the envelope, kiss Madonna, take off all your clothes. And she’s doing that because she doesn’t want to sacrifice this enormous platform that she’s built. But at the same time, she is sacrificing herself and you can see that in her eyes when she talks.”
— Christine O’Donnell, 2003

This quote was among those featured in a New Republic collection of the “the craziest statements Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell has made in public.”

Once again — as I first pointed out when Rachel Maddow was mocking O’Donnell’s statements about masturbation — liberals seem to believe that such statements are self-evidently absurd. All they have to do is to quote this stuff and roll their eyes and everyone gets the joke.

Excuse me, but what it so wacky about what O’Donnell said about Britney? In fact, I dare say O’Donnell was prophetic in discerning that Britney was “struggling with who she is” and “sacrificing herself” in a desperate effort to live up to her sexualized hype.

O’Donnell said she could “see that in her eyes” in November 2003. It wasn’t until 2007 that the emptiness of Britney’s life became disastrously apparent, when she suffered the most spectacular public meltdown in Hollywood history. How empty was Britney’s existence? She was (allegedly) reduced to exposing herself to her bodyguard in a pathetic attempt at seduction.

Why, then, do the editors of The New Republic presume that their readers will find O’Donnell’s 2003 critique of Britney Spears utterly laughable?

I mean, it’s not like I don’t get it: Just as with her quotes about “dabbling into witchcraft,” all this stuff is supposed to suggest that O’Donnell lacks the dignity and gravitas necessary to fill the Senate seat once occupied by Joe “Big F–ing Deal” Biden.

This is merely an attack on O’Donnell’s biography. She was someone whose commentaries on sexuality and pop culture were, for many years, much sought by those seeking the perspective of a young female Christian conservative on those issues. It was not her job, in that role, to comment on tax rates or  other issues that are at the center of her Senate campaign in Delaware.

Liberals seek to highlight O’Donnell’s early career as a distraction from the issues that matter to Delaware voters, because tax-raising Democrat Chris Coons can’t defend his own record on those issues. And liberals think the voters are too stupid to see through this tactic.

UPDATE: Now a thread at Memeorandum and Moe Lane at Red State says:

I’ll start caring about her social attitudes when she starts introducing them as legislation, thanks. Until then, I’m much more concerned about the Democrats’ social attitudes, which are frankly already starting to raid my wallet.

But Moe, don’t you think that social issues and economic issues are related? Christine O’Donnell tried to warn that excessive masturbation could lead to premature baldness and tax increases, but Chris Coons obviously didn’t listen:

And, in related news: Barney Frank sucks!

Reply to Rick Moran

Dan Riehl breaks his vow never to pimp-slap Rick again.

Me? I’m just kind of at a lost for words at Rick’s description of “an identifiable tea party establishment . . . a self identified elite who are more interested in maintaining their position at the top of the tea party ziggurat than in stopping the far left agenda of the Obama administration or in promoting conservative principles in their candidates.”

What in God’s green earth are you talking about, Rick? Look, if it hadn’t been for Christine O’Donnell, Mike Castle would have been uncontested in that GOP primary. And Castle voted for that “far left agenda,” including cap-and-trade, so in what parallel universe can you say that support for Mike Castle was the same as opposing Obama’s agenda?

When Smitty first blogged about Christine here, back in March, nobody gave her a snowball’s chance in hell of winning that primary. She wasn’t even a blip on the national media radar.

When I was shadowing Team O’Donnell in Vegas two months ago, they were begging for a chance to get her interviewed for online podcasts. It wasn’t any “establishment” or “elite” that made this miracle upset happen, Rick. It was a lot of hard work by a bunch of people you’ve never heard of.

Hey, Rick: How about you stop sitting around reading polls and pundits and actually go talk to some of the people involved in this “tea party” stuff you’re writing about? It really isn’t hard. Here’s a video clip I shot last week at the Elks Lodge in Dover:

“We had an army of volunteers who are committed to a cause greater than themselves. . . . The cause is restoring America.”
— Christine O’Donnell, Sept. 14, 2010

Did you see when Christine introduced her volunteer coordinator on stage, Rick? Did that volunteer coordinate look like the “establishment,” part of an “elite”? Did she seem like she was interested in maintaining her position atop a “ziggurat”?

Those cheers you heard on the video came from a room full of hundreds of volunteers who worked hard to make that impossible upset victory happen. Now they’re working just as hard to make an even bigger upset happen on Nov. 2.

And what are you doing, Rick?

PREVIOUSLY:

‘Oooh, Hooo, Witchy Woman . . .’

See how high she flies!

Brian at Red Dog Report has much more. The big MSM headline from last night’s Hannity appearance was that Christine O’Donnell has decided to stop doing national media interviews. and concentrate instead on winning over Delaware voters.

That’s just common sense, by the way. She’s raised more than $2 million in the week since defeating Mike Castle in the primary, and she has become such a huge national media story that some Delaware voters might think she’s getting too big for her britches. So she now she hires more staff, opens some campaign offices, starts running TV ads, gets ready for debates, and concentrates on reaching voters one-on-one at the retail level.

This isn’t anything sneaky and obscure, it’s just old-fashioned politics. But because she’s got that Sarah Palin endorsement, Christine the Teenage Witch really casts a spell over the addled victims of Palin Derangement Syndrome:

Because Charles Johnson Really Hates Her

UPDATE: Judging from the reaction on Twitter, if Sarah Palin’s theme song is “Barracuda,” we know what tune they’ll play to introduce Christine O’Donnell at her Nov. 2 victory celebration.

UPDATE II: Speaking of magic, a certain Delaware Democrat knows how to make economic growth disappear:

Chris Coons taxed New Castle County to the brink of extinction in just 3 short years as the county executive, raising property taxes for homeowners a total of 58% from the starting price.

Raise taxes and — Poof! — your money’s gone!
