Democrats and George Stephanopoulos (But I Repeat Myself)

The “revolving door” between the Democrat Party and the liberal media functions as a full-employment program for party operatives, who can collect paychecks from TV networks for doing the same work they would otherwise do for Democrats. Nearly everyone in the major media is a Democrat (e.g., 89% voted for Bill Clinton in 1992) and so it does not seem at all unusual to them that George Stephanopoulos, a lifelong Democrat Party operative who worked for the Clinton campaign, should be employed as a “journalist” hosting ABC’s Good Morning America:

Former Democratic activist turned journalist George Stephanopoulos on Thursday went after Carly Fiorina for attacking Planned Parenthood during Wednesday’s presidential debate. The Good Morning America co-host grilled, “Another powerful moment last night was when you talked about those Planned Parenthood tapes. But analysts who’ve watched all 12-plus hours say the scene you’ve described, that harrowing scene you described, actually isn’t in those tapes.”
He wondered, “did you misspeak?” Fiorina shot back at the man who secretly donated $75,000 to the Clintons: “I don’t know whether you’ve watched the tapes, George. . . . Certainly none of the Democrats who are still defending Planned Parenthood have watched those tapes.”

We have previously discussed the Planned Parenthood videos and Fiorina’s reference to them during the Wednesday debate. The facts of the matter are known. What is important here is that (a) Fiorina emerged from the debate as a much more viable candidate for the Republican nomination, and therefore (b) Stephanopoulos was obligated, as a Democrat Party operative, to attack Fiorina.

The naked partisanship of Stephanopoulos is not merely “liberal bias”; it is outright propaganda on behalf of the Democrat Party, which reflects ABC News policy of supporting Democrats. All of the producers and executives at ABC News are also partisan Democrats, so that the network has an organizational mission of advocacy on behalf of the candidates and policies of the Democrat Party. This is not only dishonest (because it presents partisan propaganda as objective “news”), but also dangerous, in that individuals like Stephanopoulos and organizations like ABC News cannot be expected to report honestly about the failures of Democrat officials and policies. The public is deliberately misled about, for example, the effectiveness of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, because many millions of citizens are spoonfed disinformation from Democrat partisans like Stephanopoulos.

Democrats will likely nominate as their 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, for whom George Stephanopoulos formerly worked and with whom he is still friends. Does anyone anticipate that Stephanopoulos will be objective in reporting on evidence of Mrs. Clinton’s incompetence, dishonesty and corruption? No, of course not. No one expects honest political coverage from ABC News. They belong to an industry whose business is manufacturing lies.

Sissypuss: “There isn’t much love outside of Tehran for the whole nuclear ‘deal’. Many are calling it a steaming pile of crap.”
Thurston: “One sees a steaming pile, while another views a mound of fragant loam. It’s really time we just get past all of this anti-Iranian racism, don’t you think?”
S: “What about the rumor that you were trying to trade away South Texas to appease the Iranians? For crying out loud: they have as much skin in the game as Janet Yellen has interest rates.”
T: “This administration has been besieged, attacked, belittled, and underbussed for its handling of the Southern border. So we float a twofer: eliminate the Rio Grande as a border issue, and try to find a way to hold back a nuclear Iran, and what do we get? Besieged, attacked, belittled, and underbussed. It’s almost as though Hillary! were correct in positing a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, or something.”
S: “Wait, my head ‘sploded. That was a serious thought bubble, giving away half of Texas?”
T: “Oh, come on. They weren’t going to vote Democrat anyway. What difference do those nuckle-dragging revaunchist Texans make, anyway? That Governor Rick Perrier can’t even run a Presidential campaign.”
S: “Speaking of running things, what about the coalition of Middle-Eastern analysts all up in arms regarding the ISIS intelligence reporting?”
T: “ISIL have no idea what they were on about. DNI Clapper delivered the report. Obama read it. Our agent literally hammered the opposition, once she had her sexual identity sorted.”
S: “. . .”
T: “Look, the Constitution says nothing substantial about foreign policy. Americans get what they elect. Or, in Obama’s case, re-elect. Any of the clueless gits who want to complain regarding what they got either voted for him, or didn’t work dilligently enough against him. So if you want to complain that it’s all a pile of manure, I say: bring it!”

It’s Almost As Though The Whole Thing Were Orchestrated

I’m not saying that it’s all deliberate, but. . .

But it was Fiorina who stole the show. Excluded from the first debate last month, she finally had an opportunity to introduce herself to potential primary voters outside of Iowa and New Hampshire. Her performance was so impressive she didn’t even bother to show up or send a surrogate to the media “spin room” after the debate.

Is there anybody beside me who’d buy a ticket to see a Carly/Hillary! catfight? Somehow I doubt Her Majesty would lay down easily, but the on-the-fly lying could be fascinating, from a purely scientific angle.

Media Deny Reality of Abortion Videos They Have Made a Point of Ignoring

During the Republican debate Wednesday, Carly Fiorina said:

“As regards Planned Parenthood, anyone who has watched this videotape — I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table,
its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says,
‘We have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.'”

The liberal media have spent months trying to ignore the reality depicted by these videos, employing a series of dishonest evasions to excuse the atrocities committed by Planned Parenthood. The videos were edited, blah blah blah, the use of hidden cameras is unethical, blah blah blah. None of these criticisms is actually valid; however much editing was done in the 10 YouTube clips released since July, the producers have also released the unedited footage, so that anyone can judge the accuracy of the presentation; and the use of hidden cameras by investigative reporters has been a common practice for decades.

Whatever elaborate excuses Planned Parenthood’s media apologists may attempt, they cannot explain away the abominable reality of what Planned Parenthood actually does: Kill babies, and harvest their bodies as commodities in the “fetal tissue” market.

So-called “fact-checkers” in the media are now engaged in more pro-abortion spin, nitpicking Carly Fiorina’s debate quote:

In the video, the Center for Medical Progress [CMP] interviews a woman identified as Holly O’Donnell, a former procurement technician for StemExpress. . . .
O’Donnell talks about a time when she saw a fully-formed aborted fetus, with its heart still beating, in a pathology lab at a California Planned Parenthood clinic while she was on a job.
“I’m sitting here looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think,” O’Donnell said. According to O’Donnell, her supervisor then told her they would procure the brain because the fetus was well-preserved.
The Center for Medical Progress video does not show actually show footage of O’Donnell’s experience, and there’s nothing else in the video to corroborate O’Donnell’s story. Additionally, the supervisor in O’Donnell’s story does not say anything about keeping the fetus alive specifically for the purpose of harvesting the brain.
To dramatize O’Donnell’s interview, the video cuts to a fetus outside the womb, placed on what appears to be some sort of examination surface, and the fetus’ legs are moving.

In other words, the CMP video does not actually show the specific scene that O’Donnell describes — the video images of the fetus, CMP says, were obtained from the Grantham Collection — but everyone who watches the video understands this, and if Carly Fiorina’s description confused anyone, this does not change the reality of what is involved in chopping up babies to sell them as “fetal tissue.”

The Democrat Party and its media accomplices share a fanatical commitment to abortion — the “sacrament of the Church of Liberalism,” as Ann Coulter famously said — and we see that they will use any excuse to justify abortion. Democrats clearly believe taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood is essential, as a sort of official government seal of approval, and thus are willing to do whatever is necessary to sustain this. Mollie Hemingway notes that, after Wednesday’s debate, “Planned Parenthood and its public relations firm SKDKnickerbocker lobbied journalists to claim that Carly had made up her claims,”  and many in the media have been happy to do Planned Parenthood’s bidding.

The liberal media should be ashamed of themselves, but if they had any sense of shame, they wouldn’t be the liberal media.

Friday Fiction: 100 Word Challenge

Dawn broke, and he had to admit the spires of the city were lovely. Flying cars shuttled the rich to their jobs, where they would unplug from the car and jack into the grid that ran the economy across the solar system.

The weekend loomed, and they would show up at his farm, nerves wracked by the information firehose applying pressure across their augmented senses. He’d grind beans, crack eggs, grate cheese, slice ham, spread butter, and serve a simple breakfast to them before their stress overcame their superior health care.
He breathed deeply of the new day, pitying them.

The Desert, The Aliens, and Unanswered Questions

Most of you are probably unfamiliar with the National Fantasy Fan Federation, which has been around literally since the dawn of SF fandom. I myself thought it had died off, but evidently it is very much alive, and hard up enough for members and volunteer staff that they made me head of their Membership and Recruitment Bureau, which is why I drafted this blog post on why you ought to join the N3F. On a related topic, apparently Sasquan is still refusing to release to the public the Hugo nomination ballots – not the Hugo ballots themselves, just the nomination ballots. What could they be trying to hide?
Also, for those of you who missed the announcement a week or so ago, the Kindly Ones are collecting nominations for the 2016 Hugo Awards here.

But enough of fannish politics. I’ve been spending most of last week reading S.M. Stirling’s The Desert and the Blade, wherein Crown Princess Orlaith and Empress Reiko head into the Mojave in pursuit of the legendary Grass-Cutting Sword, one of the Three Sacred Treasures of the Imperial throne. Meanwhile, Orlaith’s mother, Lady Protector and High Queen Matilda, fears her daughter’s impetuous questing has endangered Montival, since there are factions within the High Kingdom whose loyalty died with her husband, Rudi. If you don’t like the Change series, that’s fine (but spare me the reminders in the comments) but if you do, be reassured that this is worth the $14 Penguin is extorting for the Kindle edition.


I hadn’t planned to pick up Robert Frezza’s Cain’s Land for a while, since in a lot of ways I think it’s the weakest of his Suid-Afrika trilogy, but there it was…anyhow, aliens have been discovered, and canny Imperial Commissioner Mutaro decides that the best man to contact them – and, if necessary, defeat them – is renegade Colonel Anton Vereshchagin. From there, the action matches the description one of Vereshchagin’s men gives of wars: “A little humor, a little horror, and a lot of sweeping up.” Well worth picking up, if not quite as good as the first two books. Not available in Kindle, sadly.


Some years ago, I met James Daniel Ross at Balticon, where he was flogging his new book, The Chimerium Gambit to various fans of combat SF, and indeed, he had some interesting changes to ring on the hoary old trope of futuristic mercenary troops. I haven’t read its sequel, The Key to Damocles, but I have read two of the shorter “Mission Files” stories, Restavek and Not One Word; they are every bit as good as The Chimerium Gambit albeit shorter and cheaper. Recommended.


I’ve been waiting a while for Brian McClellan’s The Autumn Republic to come out on Kindle, and so far it’s been worth the wait. This is the cap to the Powder Mage trilogy that began with Promise of Blood, and a damn fine trilogy it’s been. There may be other authors out there who can combine magic and Napoleonic warfare, but McClellan does it while juggling half a dozen POV characters and half again as many subplots. Cannot recommend highly enough.
