Boko Haram and the Jihad in Africa
Posted on | May 10, 2014 | 72 Comments
The #BringBackOurGirls Twitter hashtag — online activism about the plight of girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria — has been embraced by numerous celebrities, including Alyssa Milano. This situation has gained worldwide attention and highlights a reality that American media have in recent years deliberately ignored: The persistent menace of violent Islamic jihad in sub-Saharan Africa.
If the news of the Boko Haram abductions was shocking, it was because the American media have been so busy promoting the Obama administration’s narrative that, since the death of Osama bin Laden, the threat of Islamic terrorism has essentially ended. This narrative is politically convenient for Democrats, but as with most such narratives, it’s a gigantic lie. There are still many millions of Muslims in the world who hate us and want us all dead, and many of them are willing to take up arms to accomplish that goal.
Today, First Lady Michelle Obama will highlight the Boko Haram abductions in the weekly White House radio address, and I guarantee you in advance that the words “Muslim” and “Islam” will not be part of her script. American news media are willing accomplices in this dishonest propaganda, habitually referring to Boko Haram as “militants” or “rebels” (not terrorists, you see) and, as to the religious orientation of Boko Haram, they might as well be rogue Episcopalians for what you could gather from most media reports. Meanwhile, in Nigeria . . .
Damning testimonies gathered by Amnesty International reveal that Nigerian security forces failed to act on advance warnings about Boko Haram’s armed raid on the state-run boarding school in Chibok which led to the abduction of more than 240 schoolgirls on April 14-15.
After independently verifying information based on multiple interviews with credible sources, the organization today revealed that the Nigerian security forces had more than four hours of advance warning about the attack but did not do enough to stop it.
“The fact that Nigerian security forces knew about Boko Haram’s impending raid, but failed to take the immediate action needed to stop it, will only amplify the national and international outcry at this horrific crime,” said Netsanet Belay, Amnesty International’s Africa Director, Research and Advocacy. . . .
Amnesty International has confirmed through various sources that Nigeria’s military headquarters in Maiduguri was aware of the impending attack soon after 7:00 p.m. on April 14, close to four hours before Boko Haram began their assault on the town.
But an inability to muster troops — due to poor resources and a reported fear of engaging with the often better-equipped armed groups — meant that reinforcements were not deployed to Chibok that night. The small contingent of security forces based in the town — 17 army personnel as well as local police — attempted to repel the Boko Haram assault but were overpowered and forced to retreat. . . .
Read the rest. When the terrorists — oops, I meant to say militants — are better armed than the army, you’ve got a problem.
But where are the feminists who made #WarOnWomen and #RapeCulture into such trendy phenomena? Why aren’t feminists sounding the alarm about the dangers Islamic jihad poses to girls and women worldwide? Because our so-called “feminists” in America are merely the handmaidens of the Democrat Party, promoting whatever phony “issues” will help elect more Democrats and, as such are part of the same propaganda operation where the Obama administration and its media enablers refuse to call Boko Haram what they really are: Islamic terrorists. And just in case anyone is naive about what doctrines of the Prophet these rapists with AK-47s are imposing on their young captives, Phyllis Chesler is here to enlighten you:
On April 14, 2014, Boko Haram . . . captured three hundred Christian and Muslim Nigerian schoolgirls to become their sex and domestic slaves. The Muslim fundamentalists swooped down upon them as they were learning in a “forbidden” government secular school. . . .
The world media calls this a “kidnapping” in Nigeria. It is not a “kidnapping.” It is the face of Jihad, the way of Jihad. Boko Haram are not holding these girls for ransom, they are not willing to return them for money. They already view the girls as their God-given booty, and as sale-able property. . . .
The Christian girls will be raped, converted to Islam, and then, like the Muslim girls, “married” to one of their captors. Some will be trafficked into the sex trade, which is pandemic throughout Africa and the Muslim Middle East. . . .
Please understand: Boko Haram are the Nigerian Taliban. Like their Pakistani and Afghan counterparts, they oppose education for girls and would rather marry and impregnate them instead — for Allah’s sake.
Schoolgirls are being raped in the name of Allah and Mohammed, and there was ample warning of the danger: I wrote about Boko Haram in December 2012 (“Islamists Target African Christians“) and in January 2014 (“Islam’s Terrorist African Caliphate“).
But the Democrat-dominated media won’t mention Islam and won’t call Boko Haram “terrorists” because, so far as our journalistic establishment is concerned, the real enemy are always Republicans.
UPDATE: Dana in the comments informs us that my prophecy was correct — no mention of Islam in Michelle Obama’s radio address about the Armed African Girl-Rapers of Unknown Motive.

Absolutely brutal assessment of Hillary!, brought on by the Monica Lewinsky resurgence:
…I, too, want a woman in the White House. But not just any woman. I want a president who loves this country more than herself. I want a president who genuinely views the American people as valuable, important and worthy of respect, who disables the predators in our midst who threaten our future, and actually understands the “difference it makes.”
Savor in full.

Literally and figuratively, this is the plot of John Barnes’ Daybreak novels, which start with Directive 51 and continue on through Daybreak Zero
and The Last President
. These have a very weird feel to them; the basic plot, in which ecosaboteurs spread genetically engineered plastic- and gasoline-eating bacteria along with nanobots designed to wreck electronics, is very reminiscent of both S. M. Stirling’s Change novels (Dies the Fire
) and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
, while also containing elements of Barnes’ previous apocalyptic novel, the nightmarish Kaleidoscope Century
. The Daybreak novels give you a front-row ringside seat for the collapse of global civilization as scattered, seemingly anarchic ecoterrorists, religious nutjobs, and hippie fruitcakes plunge the America into bloody chaos, exacerbated by a split of the Federal government into Provisional and Temporary factions over the issue of who’s in charge and whether Daybreak is a conventional enemy that needs to be crushed by military force or a memetic weapon that needs to be countered by other means. I’ve finished the first two novels, am going back for the third today, and can attest that these are some good -if occasionally squicky- reading. Barnes makes a powerful argument in these books for the power of ideas, and also recognizes that there’s times when nothing but brute force will do.
Recommended.
This is shaping up to be a busy year for John C. Wright. Not only has he (courteously and with cold logic) shaken the dust of the SFWA from his sandals, he is concluding the crazy, wildly inventive, millennium-spanning series of evolutionary novels started in Count to a Trillion with The Judge of Ages
, not only has he had the massive cojones to write sequels to William Hodgson’s half-forgotten “The Night Land” (Awake in the Night Land
) , he’s also put together a collection of essays: Transhuman and Subhuman: Essays on Science Fiction and Awful Truth
which I have seen excerpts of. I don’t know if Mr. Wright is the best SF author out there, but in these sad times when it seems every competent tale slinger is surrounded by packs of dull-witted, unhousebroken PC puppies with not a tenth of his talent, he’s definitely in my top ten. Go read his stuff. You’ll thank me later.
Speaking of the whole SFWA and Hugos kerfluffle, Vox Day’s Hugo-nominated “Opera Vita Aeterna” is one of the three stories in The Last Witchking, which I snapped up when it was offered for free last month. All three stories are set in the universe of Day’s A Throne of Bones
, and are definitely not your usual elf & dwarf crap. I thought they were all pretty good, with the nominee story the best, but they’ve accomplished their main goal, which is to get me to read -and maybe buy- more of Vox’s stuff.
I hardly need that prodding to read Sarah Hoyt’s writing. On the contrary, I was frustrated that it took me as long as it did to pick up A Few Good Men. However, I haven’t read much of her fantasy, so I thought I’d try out Where Horse And Hero Fell
, a short story involving a computer geek suddenly thrust into a leadership role in a wizards’ guild. It was a fun read, but I’m not sure it’s worth $1.99; stories like this are a good reason to have Amazon Prime, so you can borrow them for free.
Finally, I have to admit the trailers for Edge of Tomorrow are looking very interesting, if for no other reason than the protagonist’s cycle of death/rebirth/combat/death/rebirth/etc. reminds me of the undeservedly obscure On My Way to Paradise by Dave Wolverton. I’m giving serious thought to picking up the movie’s source novel, All You Need Is Kill
, though I may pick up the manga
instead.

The Farce of Sequester
Posted on | May 9, 2014 | 5 Comments
Alas, the cruel imposition of draconian right-wing austerity!
At the core of the dysfunction in Washington is this dilemma: Government must approve spending cuts, yet government has no interest in approving spending cuts. Federal employees are quite content with their lifestyles — 46 percent more in retirement benefits than the private sector, cozy job security — and don’t want to see them trimmed. Thus even spending reductions that make it through Congress rarely make a difference.
Look at what happened with the sequester.
By now just reading the word “sequester” should render the average reader cowering under his desk while “Flight of the Valkyries” thunders in his mind. Sequestration, after all, was supposed to hack apart the social order as we knew it. Chris Matthews called it a “doomsday machine.” President Obama warned that “people are going to be hurt.” The Congressional Budget Office predicted 750,000 jobs could be lost. Sequestration, as the trendy metaphor went, was a meat cleaver when what we really needed was a scalpel.
It now seems the cleaver had a rather dull edge. A recent Government Accountability Office found that the sequester resulted in exactly one government layoff. One. . . .
When Congress agreed to cut $37.8 billion in 2011, it was called “the largest annual spending cut in our history” by President Obama, and lethal austerity by many liberal economists. The bureaucracy responded with shell games and chicanery. The Census Bureau cut $6 billion by agreeing not to run the 2010 Census again in 2011. Congress killed $14.6 million for construction of the Capitol Visitor Center, which was finished in 2008. Not a single federal employee was laid off.
According to the Washington Post‘s David Fahrenthold, many conservatives embraced the sequester out of frustration with the 2011 non-cuts. Now we know that the sequester didn’t have a meaningful impact either. . . .

‘Homo Rapiens’: Anti-PIV RadFem Goes Total Moonbat on Climate Change
Posted on | May 8, 2014 | 202 Comments
There are times when, in studying feminist theory, I start to think, “Hey, maybe they’re onto something here.” A bedrock conservative, unshakable in his patriarchal heteronormative christofascist worldview, can read the really hard-core feminists and glean insights into the fundamental psychosexual dynamic of male dominance, appreciating women’s experience within this dynamic.
However, just when you start thinking that maybe radical feminism has, by a sort of intellectual circumnavigation, approached some important truths about human nature, you are forced to confront the alternative hypothesis: They’re just crazy as hell.
Yes, Radical Wind — the wacko feminist whose rant “PIV is always rape, OK?” inspired widespread mockery – has done it again.
This time, the radfem encounters a climate-change doomsayer who namechecks Mary Daly (oh, she loves her some Mary Daly) and contemplates “Near Term Human Extinction (NTHE)”:
The major cause of this extinction will be that the global warming and melting of the ice has triggered a series of feedback loops of toxic gas emissions such as methane and carbon dioxide which were trapped in the soils and underwaters of the earth by the ice and frost. These feedback loops have already started, are now unstoppable and life on earth is already on its way to extinction. No technology can stop this — especially since male technology is part of the problem and their use and fabrication will only emit more greenhouse gases. Even if men’s system collapsed now, if all men died and we returned back to stone age, it is unstoppable. Unprecedented levels of methane and carbone dioxide have already been released into the atmosphere because of the warming and the more gas is emitted, the more the planet heats because of the greenhouse effects of the gas, and the more gas is emitted again. Once the air is too intoxicated plants will start dying too and if all or most plants die together, all the carbon dioxyde they sequestered will be released too, which only further intoxicates the air. There will simply be no more oxygen to breathe . . .
DOOMED! WE’RE ALL DOOMED! HOPELESSLY DOOMED!
Now, you might think: “What’s left to say, then?” After all, if this process is “unstoppable,” all political discourse about it is futile. Hey, we humans had a nice 5,000-year run, building the civilization that will ultimately — and perhaps very soon — destroy the planet. Now turn out the lights, the party’s over. Adios, amigos. Right?
Wrong. For as long as oxygen remains on the planet — and this planet-destroying civilization provides her with an Internet connection — the radical feminist must continue blaming the patriarchy:
I’ve known all along that patriarchy would collapse. It confirms what we have been hearing more or less explicitly for some time now. It also confirms some visions that women have shared with me. I myself have been saying it out loud for a while, that men’s system will collapse, maybe not so much online. My only question was whether men would destroy the rest of us in their demise or if some of us would survive. We now have the answer. It appears that men will take everything away with them.
Men, homo rapiens, you scum, you filth. There is no word to describe the extent of your evil, you are pure evil, pure lechery. I hate you, how I hate you. In the 250,000 years of your rotten, defunct existence, you have managed to kill 5 million years of life on earth. . . .
The unstoppable death-machine has always only been orchestrated by the homo rapiens. By men. YOU. Women are not and have never been responsible for the atrocities committed by men, for men’s global industrial rape and death system. By lying and deceiving you are continuing to be part of the problem, because you are masking the fact that the obvious solution all the time, long before the extinction of all life was impending, was to depopulate the earth of males or to reduce them to manageable levels again — only by doing so would have men’s patriarchal and industrial necrophilic sado-system come to an end without destroying the rest of life.
“Homo rapiens . . . men’s global industrial rape and death system.”
Keep talking sexy like that, and I might buy you a drink.

Contempt of Congress
Posted on | May 8, 2014 | 28 Comments
The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to hold a former Internal Revenue Service official in contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with an ongoing investigation into the agency’s special targeting of groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names that were seeking tax-exempt status.
On a 231 to 187 vote, the House approved a contempt citation against Lois G. Lerner, whose admission last year that the tax-enforcement agency had targeted conservative groups infuriated lawmakers in both parties, led to an overhaul of the IRS and Lerner’s eventual retirement from government service.
The sacrificing of Lois Lerner as a scapegoat is necessary to the Obama administration’s IRS cover-up strategy. If she told the truth — that the IRS targeting of conservative groups was a political response to pressure from administration officials and Democrats in Congress — this would be bad for Democrats. Therefore, Lerner must remain silent, even if her silence puts her at risk of criminal prosecution.
