Jennifer Kabbany reports on a typical Ivy League professor:

A science professor at Columbia University on Monday began a quantum mechanics lecture by stripping into his boxers and eating a banana while rap music played in the background.
Then it got weird.
The professor, Emlyn Hughes, proceeded to redress himself in black, complete with sunglasses, and hug himself on stage at the front of the classroom, a large theater.
As Hughes sat in the fetal position, two “actors” dressed in ninja costumes walked onstage and placed white stuffed animals — lambs — on stools before the audience . . .
The ninjas blindfolded the lambs, then a ninja impaled one of the stuffed animals with a long sword and banged it against the stool — right as an image of a plane hitting one of the Twin Towers on 9/11 started rolling on a large screen behind the performance.

Read the whole crazy thing. Don’t forget that Columbia University is not only Barack Obama’s alma mater, but also employs Professor David Epstein, the Palin-hating HuffPo blogger who carried on a three-year incestuous sexual affair with his own daughter.

Remember: The academic elite are our moral and intellectual superiors.

‘Beware the Ides of March’: Bill Schmalfeldt Threatens Lee Stranahan?

Bill Schmalfeldt of Elk Ridge, Maryland, a.k.a. “Liberal Grouch”

Last week, Lee Stranahan filed online harassment charges against deranged cyberstalker Bill Schmalfeldt, and now Schmalfeldt has recorded a bizarre rant that also references Aaron Walker, John Hoge and Patrick “Patterico” Frey:

“It’s all horsesh-t. It’s all absolute horsesh-t. And I and my family have been put through pain and suffering because Lee Stranahan has a grudge. Because somebody, in my opinion, is paying Lee Stranahan to file these charges against me, in the hopes that I will either break or die. I got some f–king news for you, Stranny — Walker, Hoge, Frey — beware the Ides of March.”

What famously happened on the Ides of March? An assassination. And March 15 this year occurs during CPAC, which Stranahan will be attending (he’s nominated for a Blog Bash award).

Why is Schmalfeldt dropping the names of Walker, Hoge and Frey into this threat? And why does Schmalfeldt imagine someone would pay Stranahan to file these charges? Stranahan explains:

Nobody paid me to file charges. It cost me about $140 total to go to Maryland. . . .
It was my idea to file criminal charges against Bill Schmalfeldt but I admit it was not my idea alone. My wife Lauren was adamant about filing harassment charges, especially after Bill Schmalfeldt spent days telling lies and raising ugly, bizarre questions about the death of our daughter as part of his ‘investigation’ of me. There was also the fact that Bill Schmalfeldt called child protective services on us plus the bizarre and constant sexual talk about my wife.
Trust me; after months of Bill Schmalfeldt stalking, harassing, threatening, annoying, and directly contacting us dozens of times, nobody had to talk us into filing criminal charges against him.

There’s also Schmalfeldt’s megalomanic persecution complex, as evidenced by his claim that the harassment charges were filed “in the hopes that I will either break or die.”

No, Bill: You were charged with harassment because — wait for it — you were engaged in harassment.

The obsession, the fixation, the inability to step back from the situation and view it with anything like objectivity — these are symptomatic of a deranged mind, and why Schmalfeldt focused his madness on Lee Stranahan is somewhat mysterious. Schmalfeldt started cyberstalking Aaron Walker in June, and peripatetically hopscotched around to attack various other enemies of Brett Kimberlin over the course of ensuing months. In November, Schmalfeldt’s stalking of me escalated to the point that he threatened to contact my wife and sent me more than 200 harassing Twitter messages in the span of 48 hours. And through it all, Schmalfeldt has insisted that his targets deserve his malicious attention, that they are guilty of some heinous wrongdoing that Schmalfeldt is obligated to “investigate” and “expose.”

It seems nothing can dissuade Schmalfeldt from his persistent delusions of grandeur adequacy. Schmalfeldt’s response to being charged with harassment? Threats of retaliation:

“They thought they had chosen the weakest one in the herd, culled me from the herd, and now they think they’re going to break me. I face two misdemeanor charges in criminal court, and that is supposed to break me. I got news for you boys: I’m bringing down the thunder. I’m bringing up the hellfire. I’m rolling the bomb out to the Enola Gay, and I’m loading it into the bomb bay. I’m taking off for Hiroshima. You won’t know when. You don’t know where. You won’t know how. But you will know why.”

This vague threat to unleash “hellfire” upon his enemies at some future time typifies one of Schmalfeldt’s psychiatric traits I noted in November: Sociopathic sadism. Schmalfeldt enjoys inflicting punishment on those he dehumanizes into hate-objects whom he attacks remorselessly as undeserving of sympathy. He relishes the idea that he inspires fear, and the vague threat of future harm — “You won’t know when. You don’t know where. You won’t know how.” — is intended to vindicate Schmalfeldt’s self-image as someone dangerous to his enemies.

One might also observe Schmalfeldt’s lack of self-awareness, his failure to understand the transparency of his own motives as revealed by the characteristic psychological projection: “They thought they had chosen the weakest one in the herd, culled me from the herd, and now they think they’re going to break me.”

No, Bill, that is what you thought you were doing to Stranahan: You believed Lee was particularly vulnerable to your persistent harassment, and so you kept piling up the attacks, the threats, the smears in expectation of destroying him. And now that Stranahan feels compelled to file criminal charges to end your harasssment, you are projecting your own sadistic motives onto Lee.

You’re a sick freak, Bill Schmalfeldt, and every decent person watching your bizarre behavior regards you with utmost horror.

UPDATE: John Hoge reports the latest development:

Yesterday evening, evidence was presented to a District Court Commissioner in Westminster, Maryland, and the Commissioner found it sufficiently persuasive that he issued summonses to Brett Kimberlin, Neal Rauhauser, and Bill Schmalfeldt for Harassment and Misuse of Electronic Communication. A summons was also issued to Bill Schmalfeldt for Unauthorized Access to a Computer.
On 19 April, preliminary hearings will be held in Westminster to determine if there is probable cause to try these individuals for the crimes indicated.
I will have no further statements concerning these matters until I am advised to do so by the State’s Attorney or my lawyer, except to say that 1.) continuation of past behavior could result in additional charges and that 2.) other investigations continue.

Exactly what this means — does “unauthorized access to a computer” mean hacking? — I do not yet know.

Tony Sheridan, R.I.P.

The Beatles had their first recording sessions as his backup band during their formative Hamburg phase. He has died at age 72:

In the spring of 1961, the German producer and composer Bert Kaempfert offered recording contracts to both Mr. Sheridan and the Beatles, with the intention of using the Beatles as Mr. Sheridan’s backup band, but with the option of recording them separately as well.
During sessions in Hamburg in 1961 and 1962, Mr. Sheridan and the Beatles recorded nine songs together. Mr. Sheridan sang seven of them — “My Bonnie,” “The Saints,” “Why (Can’t You Love Me Again),” “Nobody’s Child,” “Take Out Some Insurance On Me, Baby,” “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “Swanee River.” The other two were purely Beatles performances: “Cry for a Shadow,” an instrumental by Lennon and Harrison, and “Ain’t She Sweet,” with Lennon singing.
When the first single from the sessions, “My Bonnie” — a rocked-up version of the folk ballad, “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” — was released in Germany on the Polydor label in October 1961, Beatles’ fans in Liverpool flooded local record shops with requests for the disc. One shop manager, Brian Epstein, decided to see what all the fuss was about, and caught a performance by the group at the Cavern, a club not far from his store. He quickly persuaded the Beatles to hire him as their manager, and within a year, he got them a recording contract of their own with EMI. They recorded their first album, “Please Please Me,” 50 years ago this month.

Connecting the Dots, Telling the Story

Rauhauser also repeatedly linked [Brett] Kimberlin’s ‘Indict Breitbart’ site and, along the way, made several interesting statements.”

Remember that on Thursday, May 17, my plan had been to cover the G8 Summit at Camp David, until I saw Aaron Walker’s 28,000-word epic, “How Brett Kimberlin Tried to Frame Me for a Crime” and immediately recognized his story as newsworthy.

Four days later, on Monday, May 21, Kimberlin contacted my wife’s employer and accused me of “harassing” him, inspiring my departure to an undisclosed location so that I could continue to cover the story without endangering my family or others. And by June 4, I’d finally put together enough of the story to explain in detail how the tax-exempt “progressive” empire of Brett Kimberlin was connected to the WeinerGate obsessions of Neal Rauhauser:

Both Rauhauser and Kimberlin were enemies of Breitbart for different reasons and in mid-2011 — in the wake of Weiner’s resignation — they joined forces, an alliance that eventually made Aaron Walker a target of convenience, collateral damage in a much larger campaign against their enemies, especially including Andrew Breitbart.

A lot of people became targets in that campaign, including Seth Allen, Mike Stack, Patrick “Patterico” Frey, Mandy Nagy, Ace of Spades, James O’Keefe, Lee Stranahan, Brandon Darby, Ali Akbar and myself, to name a few. And what Ace wrote in May is still true:

“It is very easy to decide ‘this isn’t any of my trouble’ and permit vicious behavior. . . . Who wants to get involved? Easier, and surely safer, just to duck one’s head and hide, and hope the danger visits someone else.”

A fearful, defensive posture toward danger will not save you, and the “duck and hide” response only permits the danger to envelop others.

Anyway, I refer to this June 4 post because it has been nominated for the “Best Investigative Post” award  at Blog Bash March 14.

Both Mandy Nagy and Lee Stranahan have also been nominated for awards, which inspired my inquiry:

Living well is the best revenge, and having a party with hundreds of bloggers at CPAC is a pretty good definition of “living well.”

‘A Particularly Odd Argument’ by the Particularly Odd Bill Schmalfeldt

After Lee Stranahan filed online harassment charges against deranged cyberstalker Bill Schmalfeldt, the deranged cyberstalker argued:

You have the ability to block incoming messages from people you do not wish to hear from.

Aaron Walker observes:

This is a particularly odd argument for him to make because he has used four different Twitter handles and six different email addresses I know of. . . .
So how exactly does Lee block all six email addresses he is known to use? Is Lee supposed to be psychic? And given that a person can invent a new email in all of ten minutes on gmail or hotmail, and a new Twitter account with similar ease, why should anyone expect blocking to be a viable solution to harassment?

Walker demonstrates that Schmalfeldt’s defense is legally invalid.

John Hoge notices that Schmalfeldt has switched his Twitter account to “protected” status, the same move Neal Rauhauser made after “TwitterGate” blew up in Neal’s face. Such a gesture is the cyberstalker’s white flag of surrender.

Lee Stranahan has recorded a podcast discussing the harassment charges he filed against Schmalfeldt.

Tehran Supports Chuck Hagel, and Nobody Really Seems to Care

Hooshang Amirahmadi, who led Rutgers’ Center for Middle Eastern Studies when Hagel came to campus, is the founder and president of the American-Iranian Council. He arranged for Hagel’s speech on March 2, 2007, the faculty source told The Daily Caller.

The connection between Obama’s choice for Secretary of Defense and Amirahmadi, a tool of the anti-American dictatorship in Tehran, really ought to be shocking — even more shocking than a Soviet spy becoming a key State Department official. Yet the embrace of America’s worst enemies is nowadays greeted with nonchalance, because . . .

Well, who is America’s worst enemy, eh?

[B]eing friendly with Hamas supporters is no obstacle to higher office in American politics. We elected a guy president twice who fits that description, remember?

Andy at AOSHQ calls attention to an amusing episode of environmentalist stupidity: About 5,000 people showed up in D.C. for a protest against the Keystone XL pipeline. The free-market group Center for Industrial Progress attended in a counter-protest capacity, but the environmentalists were too stupid to get it:

We wore shirts with the equation “Anti-Fossil + Anti-Nuclear = Pro-Blackout.” While we were preparing, at least a dozen protestors unthinkingly tried to buy the shirts condemning their position. . . .
The mindlessness of the protest was highlighted by the typical response to a series of questions we asked. 1) “Are you anti-fossil fuel?” “Yes!” 2) “Are you anti-nuclear?” “Yes”! 3) “Are you pro-blackout?” “Yes!” . . .

Bebel said anti-Semitism is the socialism of fools. Environmentalism is the socialism of people too stupid even for anti-Semitism.
