Alex Brant-Zawadzki (@Beezling) Gets Blunt Words About Wild Goose Chases

Did I ever mention that I’m a professional journalist who’s been at this business since 1986? I think I did.

And probably I’ve also mentioned a time or two that I started out at $4.50 an hour for a 6,000-circulation weekly in Austell, Georgia, working my way up from there by ceaseless toil.

It ain’t bragging if you can do it, and yet there are still punks out there who think they can come rolling in on me with threats and expect me to run away scared. They’re wrong.

Most of the time, I ignore crap like this, because there’s no point callng attention to the gnats hovering around the elephant’s ass.

Every so often, however, I’ll swat the hell out of one, just to provide an example for the rest. So it was with a certain graduate student and occasional HuffPo contributor who decided that it would be a smart move to jump into somebody else’s blog war in an attempt to blow it up into the Scandal of the Century.

Fail.

This Alex Brant-Zawadzki spent a day or two on Twitter hyping up his Shocking Exposé of Ali Akbar, produced in cooperation with a notorious bullshit artist named Matt Osborne and a couple of trolls named Bill Schmalfeldt and Melissa Brewer. When they finally pushed it out — thud.

So I went on Twitter and remarked to Alex B-Z that this was all a long run for a short slide — an old baseball analogy — and he got all snarktastic in his response to that, with his troll friends jumping in to provide a chorus of insulting noise.

When such clustered Twitter noise is being directed at you, it’s possible to mistake it for something meaningful, unless you’re smart enough to realize that trolls lack what the social-networking gurus call “reach.” Most of them don’t have 1/100th my number of followers, because they never Tweet anything worth reading, but instead produce feeds that are nonstop chattering negativity about nothing. Nevertheless, there are people who freak out over the troll-swarm, and start getting into arguments with the trolls, thereby directing their own readers toward these pests who might otherwise be easily ignored.

Well, what to do? Unlike his troll fanboys, Alex has a publicly available e-mail address and some prospect of an actual career, so I felt it might be helpful to offer him some advice.

VA: Tim Kaine Posing As Mainstream Is Most Humorous

Credit where due: Timmy’s ads are effective in painting him as a moderate politician. To glance at them, you’d never know that in 2007 Kaine

“. . .became the first official outside of the State of Illinois to endorse U.S. Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States”.

Ambassador Stevens could not be reached for comment.

And then Kaine moved from the Governor’s mansion to DNC chair, where his accomplishments were so splendid, they replaced him with Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

Allen, for his part, has used numerous ads highlighting Kaine’s term as chairman of the Democratic National Committee to tie him to President Barack Obama, hoping a tepid economic recovery will provide a distinctive choice in voters’ minds.
“It is obvious connection to make,” Skelley said. “However, it is interesting, because it is not like Kaine has been fleeing from the president. In fact, in a lot of ways Kaine has decided that being connected to the president may serve him better than not.”
Away from the attack ads, both campaigns have TV spots that carry a pro-business emphasis including promises to bring jobs to Virginia.
Allen has been out of political office for six years, but, Skelley said, voters’ familiarity with the candidates means attack ads are probably the weapon of choice in breaking that deadlock.

Well, yes: there are bazillions of square feet of office space in Northern Virginia waiting to be populated by federal bureaucrats who will spend all day talking about the delivery of health care.

We can expect that George Allen will be a stalwart supporter of the reforms Romney will bring, whereas Kaine can be expected to be a good little doggie and play along with whatever idiocy Dingius Maximus is excreting on a given day. If there is a town hall debate, I’d love to go there and ask Timmy: “Budgets, dude. Should we have one? Because your party really puts the ‘s’ in ‘suck’ where budgets are concerned.”

Because Democrats deserve to lose even where running unopposed.

As a synonym for “moral superiority,” substitute nude young boys:

Dr. Richard J. Keller, 56, of Andover, was arrested and charged today with receipt of child pornography.
Prosecutors said Keller bought or ordered more than 50 DVDs of child pornography online. An ongoing search of his home in Andover has turned up more than 500 high-gloss photographs and between 60 and 100 DVDs of child pornography, authorities said.
Keller is a pediatric endocrinologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and a pediatrics instructor at Harvard Medical School, according to U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz’s office. He was also medical director at Phillips Academy for 19 years before he stepped down last year. . . .
[T]he case began with an investigation two years ago of an unidentified overseas movie production company that offered streaming video and DVDs of films featuring nude young boys engaged in food fights, showering, wrestling in bed and playing Twister. . . .

Because the Harvard instructor’s position at an elite prep school gave him access to, well, nude young boys, Dan Riehl at Riehl World News is concerned: “I hope we don’t start hearing about a long list of actual incidents involving minors.” More at the Boston Globe and CBS Boston.

Such cases confront us with a chicken-or-the-egg question:  Which comes first, the decadence or the elitism? Aren’t we justified in suspecting that a contempt for ordinary people is somehow related to a contempt for ordinary morality?

Recall the case of Columbia University Professor (and Palin-hating HuffPo blogger) David Epstein, who was convicted  last year of “consensual incest” with his own daughter.

Professor Epstein’s conviction was never reported by the major media, and we saw no intellectual pundits proclaiming that his perversion was an institutional scandal reflecting badly on the university that employed him. No — such lectures are reserved exclusively for scandals involving Catholic priests or Republican politicians, never Ivy League professors or other such elites whose superiority fits liberal conceptions of merit.

Roman Polanski and Woody Allen are revered film directors — how dare you lowbrow slobs pass judgment on them!

Just as none of the sins of show-biz icons can be interpreted as evidence of that Hollywood has embraced decadent values, no crime committed by anyone at Harvard or Columbia can be adduced as a general indictment of the Ivy League’s into degeneracy, a trend that Bill Buckley first described more than 60 years ago in God and Man at Yale.

SAVAGES: Did Libyan Mob Sodomize U.S. Ambassador Before Killing Him?

This report is so shocking that it seems impossible: According to one unconfirmed Arab-language account from a Libyan news agency, citing the French agency AFP, “the U.S. ambassador to Libya was raped sexually before killing by gunmen who stormed the embassy building in Benghazi.” It appears that the first English version of this account was published last night at the NOPC blog, then made its way to I Own the World, was picked up by Riehl World News, and then reported at the Washington Times by Kerry Picket.

My apologies in advance if I’ve gotten the sequence of events in any way confused. I learned of it via a Tweet from Michelle Malkin, and wish to emphasize — as Picket did in an update — that this is an unconfirmed report. Obviously a mob that would attack our consulate and kill four Americans is capable of anything, but we do not yet have confirmation that this reported atrocity actually happened.

Last November, journalist Mona Eltahawy described being sexually assaulted by Egyptian security forces after she was detained in Cairo, prompting me to remark:

A few weeks ago, discussing Libya on Red Eye, Kevin Williamson used the phrase “desert savages,” which is politically incorrect, but when we see savagery like this, who can say it isn’t also accurate?

The question remains valid, for obvious reasons.

UPDATE: One of the things about liberal bias is how it creates a bizarre disproportion in attitudes toward events. While mobs of enraged Muslims are now besieging U.S. embassies worldwide — in Yemen and elsewhere — the liberal media continues to unblinkingly accept the administration’s assertion that the real problem is not Islamic thuggery, but rather an obscure anti-Islamic video that no one in American had even heard about until Tuesday. Political correctoids are more offended by Kevin Williamson’s “desert savages” description of Libyans than they are by actual Libyan savagery. And we must remember, of course, that political correctness is ultimately about politics:
