The spectacular implosion of Mitt Romney means a no-choice US election, emphasis mine:

It is impossible to imagine Ronald Reagan saying, or thinking, that 47 per cent of Americans should be written off. He would have wanted to try and persuade those overly reliant on the state that they could be liberated, and the lives of their families improved, if they voted for him. His creed was essentially positive and aspirational.
The tragedy is that America and the Western world needed this year’s election to be a proper contest. Obama has been a deep disappointment as President and the country’s finances are in a mess. Britain and the world need a strong American recovery, but Obama seems to have no idea how to help create the climate in which it might happen. In contrast, Mr Romney does have an understanding of business growth and free-markets, although he was far from being the perfect candidate.
Now, with Romney having ruined himself, it becomes a no-choice election. This is quite extraordinary when one considers the tumultuous nature of events since the financial crisis and the need for solutions to be implemented which go beyond the centrist corporatism which dominates the landscape.

Oh for crying out loud in the dark: Romney made a realpolitik appraisal. What’s really occurred here is that the press has soiled itself. Again. At least the press are consistent infantile whiners. Like the non-income taxed portion of the electorate whose attitude Romney appraised.

What promises to be interesting is whether Mitt can make (and deliver) tax reform. There is nothing wrong with the IRS code that could not be fixed with pliers and a blowtorch. If not likely to deliver tax reform, #OccupyResoluteDesk can point to Romney and say “Mitt’s just playing the game, like me.”

Matthew Boyle uncovers an Orwellian scandal:

Internal Department of Justice emails obtained by The Daily Caller show Attorney General Eric Holder’s communications staff has collaborated with the left-wing advocacy group Media Matters for America in an attempt to quell news stories about scandals plaguing Holder and America’s top law enforcement agency.
Dozens of pages of emails between DOJ Office of Public Affairs Director Tracy Schmaler and Media Matters staffers show Schmaler, Holder’s top press defender, working with Media Matters to attack reporters covering DOJ scandals. TheDC obtained the emails through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. . . .
Emails sent in September and November 2010 show Schmaler working with Media Matters staffer Jeremy Holden on attacking news coverage of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation scandal.
Holden attacked former DOJ Civil Rights Division attorneys J. Christian Adams and Hans von Spakovsky on Sept. 20, 2010 for what he called an attempt “to reignite the phony New Black Panther Party scandal.”
Before Holden posted his article at 7:52 p.m., Schmaler sent him several emails with information helping him attack both former DOJ officials. . . .

Holder is spending five days in the Dominican Republic, Barbados, and Trinidad. I have learned from sources with direct knowledge of Tracy Schmaler’s goings-on that the spin-mistress of the Justice Department Office of Public Affairs is accompanying Holder on this tropical jaunt. . . .
Tracy Schmaler is a name which may grow into a household one as the lies surrounding Fast and Furious unravel faster. . . .
She is the witchy federal employee who screams and cusses at reporters for NBC, the Washington Times, CBS and the American Spectator, yet doesn’t get fired because thug is so in style in this administration.

Read the rest of that story. A press release about Schmalter’s promotion at DOJ mentioned that she was once . . . a reporter?

Neutral objectivity!

UPDATE II: J. Christian Adams has some interesting information on Media Matters “flying monkey” Matt Gertz, an obedient henchman of the DOJ’s chief propagandist Schmaler:

Gertz also provided quick reports to Schmaler about his attacks on PJ Media’s Andy McCarthy, Town Hall’s Katie Pavlich, Breitbart’s Joel Pollack, and Megyn Kelly of Fox News.

This exposes MMFA as the brownshirt operation it really is.

UPDATE III: Informed by J. Christian Adams on Twitter that Schmaler’s gig as a reporter was at the Rutland (Vt.) Herald before joining Senator Leahy’s staff. Another trip through the media-Democrat revolving door for a left-wing reporter. Republicans, by contrast, would never let an actual journalist within a half-mile of their media-relations office, because all GOP campaign staffers think of themselves as media experts, which explains their vicious hostility toward the press. Keep it up, guys — one of these days, that strategy might start working.

Walker v. Kimberlin Case Moves Forward

When last we left the story a week ago, Aaron Walker’s attorney had filed a “Motion to Compel Discovery” in the lawsuit against convicted terrorist bomber Brett Kimberlin. And as I said:

I’m not generally a legal-document fanboy, but [Walker’s attorney Dan] Backer really rips Kimberlin apart in this one.

Remember that Walker is himself an attorney, yet in this case wisely has retained the services of Backer, while Kimberlin — who has filed more than 100 court actions as a “jailhouse lawyer” — has chosen to represent himself, with predictably unfortunate results:

Last Friday, two motions were heard in the Circuit Court in Prince William County (VA). The first was Mr. Kimberlin’s Motion for Continuance that we examined a few days ago. Denied! The second was Mr. Walker’s Motion to Compel Discovery which was, of course, granted. . . .
I haven’t seen a copy of the order yet, but if the judge was generous and allowed him the normal 21-day response time again, Brett Kimberlin now owes answers by 5 October. Under oath.

William J. Hoge’s emphasis on the phrase under oath represents the biggest danger to Kimberlin, a man seemingly incapable of telling the truth. And as Walker himself points out, Kimberlin has actually indicated he’ll plead the Fifth Amendment — in a civil suit?

That’s a quote from a man who is being hounded for his role in the production of the video that did not cause any riots or murders, no matter what that idiot Susan Rice tries to tell you. Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugged has the worldwide exclusive:

But now he is being hunted like an animal because of the media’s relentless campaign to destroy and target innocent civilians whom they believe have been critical of Islam. Nassralla is currently in hiding after multiple death threats from Muslims, because of his purported role in producing this video. Spot the Error

Something here offends me:

The weird ecstasy of the media-political complex at the convention in Charlotte … was the first sign that its attachment to President Obama, always fawning, had become morbid.
In spite of the anemic economy and a real unemployment rate above 11 percent, the high priests of pontificating liberalism were giddy with euphoria. The Democrats “put on a nearly flawless convention,” Paul Begala opined, and it was soon all but incontrovertibly established that, come November, the president — beautiful, magical, and lovable as he was — would vanquish his boring opponent.
The media savants sympathized with the delirium of Charlotte because they worship at the same altar and feed at the same trough. . . .
The closeness of mainstream journalists to President Obama has debauched their integrity.

Paul Begala is one of those guys, like George Stephanopoulos and Chris Matthews, who turned a career as a Democrat Party operative into a career as a TV personality. He is not and never has been a reporter, but only a commentator, and a highly partisan commentator at that.

The fact that Begala appears on a TV network no more makes him a journalist than starring in war movies makes Tom Hanks a military hero.

Al Sharpton? Not a journalist. Karl Rove? Not a journalist.

Please stop confusing the two phenomena. Thank you.
