Hitler: ‘My Main Goal of Supporting the German Community Outweighed the Collateral Damage to Poland …’

This is a slight paraphrase of how the obnoxious a–hole justifies his bullying of a Chick-fil-A employee at a drive-through window:

Adam Smith berates a Chick-fil-A employee, got fired, and now has released a new video apologizing to Rachel, who was his drive-thru victim. He goes on about how she handled his rant with grace, patience, and apologizes for his actions. He wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
Then…he explains why he went to Chcik-fil-A and went on a rampage. He says his “main goal of supporting the gay community outweighed the collateral damage that Rachel became” and admits that he only saw her in that aspect. He then details how we need to stop “rationalizing our destructive actions this way … we need to start seeing people as people.” He admits he failed his own test.

Keep in mind that Smith only had this remorseful response after he shot video of himself hectoring Rachel and took the time to upload that video to YouTube, evidently expecting to bask in the admiring applause of his fellow liberals. It was only when the self-righteous bully failed to gain the anticipated admiration — and indeed, became an instant symbol of the bullying intolerance of the anti-Chick-fil-A boycotters — that Smith experienced remorse.

Smith first attempted to delete the video, only to discover the lack of an “unpublish” function on the Internet. After he was fired from his job, he now retroactively avows his “main goal of supporting the gay community,” as if this explains why a corporate executive with an MBA thought it would be a good idea to post a video of himself heckling a poor woman working at a fast-food drive through window.

Andy at AOSHQ says, “When something billed as an apology has a 7+ minute run time, you’re doing it wrong.”

Apologies for the Godwin’s Law violation in the headline, but the collateral damage to Adam Smith’s reputation was outweighed by my main goal of supporting the fast-food community.

Is Obama Doomed?

John Hinderaker looks at the Rasmussen poll numbers and notices the general decline in President Obama’s support over the past few months. Defeating an incumbent president is always difficult. It’s only happened three times in the modern era: Carter beat Ford in 1976, Reagan beat Carter in 1980 and Clinton beat Bush in 1992.

The weird thing is that while, in retrospect, the losers in those elections appear to have been doomed from the outset, in the late summer of their final year in office, their prospects for re-election still seemed quite viable. Few of the pollsters and pundits realized, in August 1980, that Jimmy Carter was three months away from losing a landslide to Ronald Reagan.

Is Obama already doomed to defeat in November? Or will events between now and Nov. 6 determine his fate? I lean toward the latter view.

It’s still “jump ball,” anybody’s game, and the next 94 days will be decisive. But when it’s all over, regardless of who wins, most people will see the result as having been more or less inevitable — the Loser will appear to have been doomed, and the Winner will seem destined to victory.

Tennessee Democrat Party Denounces Democrat Senate Candidate

Rachel Maddow spent five minutes on MSNBC tonight having a conniption over what is, for Democrats, a disheartening development:

Mark Clayton believes the federal government is building a massive, four-football-field wide superhighway from Mexico City to Toronto as part of a secret plot to establish a new North American Union that will bring an end to America as we know it. On Thursday, he became the Tennessee Democrats’ nominee for US Senate.
Clayton, an anti-gay-marriage activist and flooring installer with a penchant for fringe conspiracy theories, finished on top of a crowded primary field in the race to take on GOP Sen. Bob Corker this fall. He earned 26 percent of the vote despite raising no money and listing the wrong opponent on his campaign website. . . .
Clayton’s primary victory is only the latest blow for the Tennessee Democrats in a state that’s becoming redder every year. Democrats lost three congressional seats during the 2010 midterms, plus control of the governor’s mansion. Corker, a rising GOP star who edged Democratic Rep. Harold Ford Jr. by just 2.7 points in 2006, is now virtually assured of another six years in Washington.

The Tennessee State Democrat Party denounced Clayton, prompting many Tennesseans to remark, “What? There’s still an actual Democrat Party in this state? I’ll be danged!”

Maddow was bemoaning how the Democrat Party has basically “withered and died” in states like Tennessee, a development I call “a good start.”

WARRENTON, VA–Thursday August 2nd there was a zoning hearing, where family farmers from a nearby town were up against the authoritarian power of the zoning board.

The facts in the case seem incredible:

“Fauquier County has crossed several lines by violating sensitive private property rights and individual liberty. The County is breaking the law, and is trespassing on the rights of farmers, wineries, and their patrons from and visiting the Commonwealth of Virginia. Perhaps even more egregious are the County’s Orwellian allegations that a pumpkin carving and a birthday party for eight 10-year-old girls transgressed the County’s zoning ordinance, and constitute grounds to cite and fine farmers.”

The second half of the Bishop Jackson’s remarks get more Virginia-centric, emphasizing George Allen’s support for these local farmers in particular, and Virginians in general, against the collectivist leanings of the Fauquier Counting Zoning board, and Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine:
It’s easy to let yourself get gloomy due to the waves of negativity rolling off of the Left, amplified by the media. However, liberty-loving Americans came from across Virginia to Warrenton yesterday to support individuals under oppression from local bureaucrats. It was truly heartening. There is still plenty of fight remaining in Americans, oh yes indeed.

Obamanomics: Good News and Bad News

You’ll probably want the bad news first: The unemployment rate rose to 8.3 percent in July, a number in which the New York Times desperately seeks to find good news for Obama, which would actually be bad news for everybody else, because if the New York Times deceives people into thinking Obama’s policies aren’t a complete failure, his policies — which are, in fact, a complete failure — might continue another four years.

The good new is this: The College Republican National Committee is undeceived about the grim reality of Obamanomics:

Joblessness Among Young People Remains High

Washington, DC – August 3, 2012 – New jobs numbers released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that young people continue to be dealt a tough blow under this economy.
Youth unemployment sits at 15.3 percent while unemployment nationally rose to 8.3 percent. Breaking that down even further, for 18 and 19 year olds, unemployment is up to 22.2 percent.
“My generation continues to suffer under the Obama economy. We are facing record high unemployment and even higher underemployment and see no sign of that changing anytime soon if we keep President Obama in the White House,” CRNC Chairman Alex Schriver said.
A Harvard Institute of Politics poll from earlier this year revealed that 74 percent of young Americans consider jobs and the economy to be the number one voting issue for them going into this election.
“President Obama has had four years to turn this economy around and get Americans back to work but instead we consistently see abysmal jobs reports month after month. It’s time for real change in the White House” Schriver added.

More good news: The a–hole who made a video of his obnoxiousness at a Chick-fil-A drive-through window is now among the unemployed.

1. The obnoxious a-hole’s “profile was scrubbed from [the University of Arizona’s] faculty listings Thursday,” the Arizona Daily Star reports. The obnoxious a–hole had previously taught MBA students at the university, from which he graduated in 1999. So he’s probably about 35 years old and just destroyed his career and reputation because of his own hateful, arrogant, moralistic self-righteousness. If Obama gets re-elected, this jerk will probably get a job — at the White House.

The title quote is the pre-match mantra of the 22-year-old who won a gold medal in judo yesterday, and who in an interview last month told a reporter: “I do believe things happen for a reason.”

There are times in life when survival is victory. You make up your mind every day just to keep going, and you count each new day as another win.

Some people have easy lives, safe lives, privileged lives. The successes of such people surprise no one and inspire no one. But the people who succeed despite hardship, misfortune, humiliation and discouragement — the survivors, who had to fight merely to keep up the courage to keep fighting — these are the great heroes, the inspirational champions whose victories give hope to the downhearted.

Kayla Harrison won the Olympic gold medal.

Her former coach is serving 10 years in prison.
