‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran Weeps For The Poor Wee Bureaucrat

‘Gentleman’ Jim can be hard to understand at times. This blog will offer a running translation into non-bureaucrat, peon English as a public service.

| “I appreciate the work of the conferees, but I oppose this conference agreement, not out of concern for the tens of thousands of federal employees that I represent, | Listen, boys and girls, you may flatter yourself that you’re running the show, but who maintains the servers? Who keeps the supplies stocked? Who does the staff work? Mah peeps, that’s who. And if you think you can jerk them about without serious, yet purely accidental, consequences, you’re living in some 100+ year old Constitutional fantasy story. |
| but out of concern for the welfare of the great nation we serve. | Now I’m going to say ‘we serve’ for the sake of that quaint Constitutional fantasy record, but don’t neglect to apply the Beltway Inversion and understand that to mean ‘which serves us’, or it’s going to get really ugly. |
| We are blessed with the least corrupt, most effective, least discriminatory, most responsive federal workforce in the world. | As before, any of you mung-heads that don’t know I mean the precise opposite is probably a 2010 Tea Party freshman who should sit down and shut up. Should you survive re-election, you will be assigned a Special Re-education Camp date, where you can be ‘read in’ on precisely why you don’t mess with the bureaucracy. |
| And yet, how do we repay them? We are requiring them to increase their pension contributions by 400%, with no increase in benefits. | Some of you really haven’t understood history since LBJ, have you? We drive this bus, and the American people either offer a simple, obsequious ‘thank you’, or they go under the bus. The drivers don’t pay to ride; they’re drivers. What part of this reality escaped you idiots? |
| So we are sending them a signal: ‘Sorry, we don’t really appreciate what you’re doing. You’re expendable. It’s a signal that will not be lost on the recruits that we desperately need in the future. | Do you punks really want to see a traffic jam? Do you? You know darned good and well that if you want to see a job after you’re run out of office (as will not happen to me, by the way) or if you want a job for your little drooling idiot offspring, you’d better back off right now. |
| Let alone the hundreds of thousands, really, of federal employees who could easily be making more in the private sector. | Because you know that if we have to make any adjustments, reductions-in-force, office closures, down-sizings, etc., we’re coming after your knucklehead friends first. The economy is parked in the toilet. If you like the bus, you had better quit rocking it right now. |
| The whole country is going to pay a price for the signal that this bill sends. That’s why I think we should defeat it.” | You sunny beaches may be capable of starting a war, but my people will show you how to be twice as fast and three times as loud in begging for an end to it. You want to pick on somebody in a different seat on this bus, go for the military. Leave the drivers alone. |

‘They Have Begun to Consider the Implications of a Santorum Victory’
Posted on | February 18, 2012 | 74 Comments
Do you remember the scene in the original Rocky, when one of Apollo Creed’s handlers points out that this luckless no-name Philly palooka is a southpaw? Left-handed boxers are unusual enough that Creed’s man was a little worried, and then he watched that TV news spot of Rocky Balboa practicing his body work by pounding on beef carcasses in a freezer.
And breaking ribs . . .
That scene came to mind today when I picked up the Saturday Washington Post and read a story at the bottom of the front page:
Obama’s Chicago-based reelection team has begun digging into Santorum’s background, diverting opposition researchers who thus far had been focused on Romney. They also blasted an e-mail to supporters in Pennsylvania, asking them to submit their most damning recollections of Santorum, a former senator from the state.
Though campaign officials still view Romney as the likely nominee, they have begun to consider the implications of a Santorum victory. They view him as a weaker general election opponent, but one who has shown an ability to connect with the population that is most disillusioned with Obama: white, blue-collar voters. . . .
Read the rest. We would be getting way ahead of the game to speculate too much of how this Italian kid might fare against The Champ. But there are a few folks in The Champ’s corner who seem worried that The Champ has some vulnerabilities that this luckless palooka could be uniquely positioned to exploit. Bitter gun-and-Bible clingers, anyone?
Look at what Santorum did to Romney in Ohio: Stole away one of his key endorsements in a crucial Super Tuesday state. A week ago, Santorum was in fourth-place in the Michigan polls, but now he’s beating Romney in Romney’s home state. And suddenly Mitt just lost the co-chair of his Arizona campaign (because nobody cares about “moral issues,” you see).
They used to say Romney was “inevitable,” but now Mitt’s starting to look more and more like . . . well, dead meat.
Hey, Champ: Watch your ribs.
Could Nancy Jacobs Do A Better Job Of Taking Care Of Veterans Than ‘Dutch’ Ruppersberger?

Charm City (a name bestowed in the 1970s on Baltimore like a Nobel Peace Prize on the current POTUS) has a correspondingly charismatic representative, “Dutch” Ruppersberger. On of the Things You Do as a Representative is be an advocate for your constituents to the cold, faceless government. Constituent has problem; constituent calls Congressman; Congressman gets to play knight in shining armor, fighting the federal hydra. Granted, lopping off a head for the constituent will surely grow a few more, but rejoice in the fact that at least somebody was wrecked a little less.
So it’s a bit odd that Rich Vail has hardly been given the time of day. It may be the case there there is little that can be done to support Vail’s cause. One supports the Constitution with the knowledge that, not infrequently, the little pointy-headed bureaucratic pogues will often cheerfully blame the victim, Vail, for any error, rather than do the right thing. I should say something positive and point out that the pogues who did my de-mobilization work in Norfolk really were quick, efficient, and genuinely concerned that the almighty DD-214 be done correctly.
Can Vail find a better advocate? By the power of a bit of Google, Nancy Jacobs looks to be running to replace Ol’ Dutch. Sometimes it’s easier to fire a bum than rehabilitate him.

‘News’ From the Liberal Media Meme Factory: Women Hate Rick Santorum
Posted on | February 18, 2012 | 54 Comments
You may have already seen this Rick Santorum campaign ad, but I ask you to take 30 seconds to click and play the video again. Try to watch it while asking yourself, “Will women vote for this guy?”
Sure! Why the heck not? Maybe he’s not movie-star handsome like Mitt Romney, but you can’t say that Rick Santorum is a bad-looking guy.
He is the youngest of the four remaining candidates in the GOP field, and looks even younger than his 53 years. He’s energetic and vigorous, he has an attractive young family — seven kids! — and the ad shows him as quite an ideal father: He smiles at his wife, he hugs his daughters, he plays football with his sons. What’s not to like?
Permit me to testify here that this is a rare instance where the advertising image remarkably reflects the reality. Having followed Santorum around on the campaign trail since August, I have often observed the close-knit nature of the Santorum family. His wife and children have been an integral part of his campaign from the start, and there were times — during those long months when he was stumping around Iowa, at rock bottom in the polls — that there would have been no Santorum campaign without the hard work his family put into it.
Knowing this, and having seen with my own eyes how Santorum’s appeal as a family man has been a crucial element of his success, I shake my head in astonishment that any Republican might be deceived by the propaganda published by Politico:
Rick Santorum: Will women vote for him?
. . . Gender issues have taken center stage in recent days as Santorum has made incendiary comments suggesting women not be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military (he later said he was concerned men would want to protect them). Santorum has also stood by his opposition to contraception, reiterating his position that it shouldn’t be covered by the national health-care law because it is “inexpensive.” While the ex-senator doesn’t favor outlawing birth control, he is personally opposed to it. . . .
“He constantly says things that are offensive to women,” said Kim Gandy, former president of the National Organization for Women. “Regardless of whether Republican women like some of his policies, I think they’re going to be so turned off by his judgmental stand on the independence and essential rights of women that they won’t be able to vote for him.” . . .
Are you buying this? If so, please click this link to purchase a certain bridge in Brooklyn. Slightly used, but what a bargain!
Our liberal friends very much want to believe — and more importantly, they want Republican primary voters to believe — that Rick Santorum’s social conservatism is an insuperable handicap, and that if the GOP nominates Santorum, the party will be doomed to defeat in November because of the “gender gap.” But is this belief really true?
Isn’t it possible that the very qualities that have taken Rick Santorum from the bottom to the top of the Republican primary field might also be enough to win over independent voters (including women voters) in the general election? Are women voters really so keenly attuned to the kind of “gender issues” that Kim Gandy cares about? And will their devotion to these issues be so fanatical that these women will overlook everything admirable about Rick Santorum?
You can answer those questions for yourself, dear reader. But the very fact that liberals so clearly want us to believe this meme — Women Hate Rick Santorum! — is reason enough to make me suspect that it’s just another damned liberal lie.
Of course, maybe you believe it. If so, be sure to click the donate button below and I’ll send you that bridge right away. Remember, I’m a professional journalist: Trust me!
‘. . .He Leaves Very Big Shoes To Fill,’ Kennedy Said

by Smitty
So says Joe Kennedy III in a campaign video, opting to run for the seat vacated by the unlamented Barney Frank.

It may be that the Kennedy brand has recovered from the passing of Ted. According to the Boston Herald:
The UMass Lowell/Herald poll — the first to test the younger Kennedy’s appeal in the newly configured 4th Congressional District — shows no evidence of “Kennedy fatigue.” More than two years after the death of U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, nearly three quarters of voters in the district have a favorable opinion of the Kennedy family — including 42 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents.
The survey of 408 registered voters in the district was conducted from Feb. 2-4 and Feb. 6-8 and has margin of error of 6.4 percent.
Or not. The resemblance between Joe Kennedy and Lance Burri cannot be denied:

The Paradox Of Progressive Idiocy, Billy Bragg Edition

via @s_dog on Twitter, via Tim Blair:
Billy Bragg: “Jingoism is no answer to England’s ebbing power“:
Unless and until we throw off our imperial pretensions and begin to relate to our neighbours as equals, joining with them in creating new networks of active devolution and shared sovereignty, we English are in danger of becoming an insular people, jealously guarding the right to make our own laws while increasingly unable to control our destiny.
Wait, so you control your destiny by abdicating sovereignty to your neighbors? Really? What kind of head-parked-in-the-dark lunacy is that?
I can follow a theological variation on this argument, where one is individually submitted to the will of God. But that still doesn’t dictate one follow Bragg to Jonestown. Bragg is encouraged to take himself to Jonestown, and that anti-American creep Van Jones with him.
There is nothing jingoistic whatsoever, Bragg, in caring about liberty, in England or the U.S. Nor is it jingoistic to point out that your ideas are pure ruin, laugh at you for acting a fool, and opposing your commie ills at every turn. It’s simple common sense.
Is Dr. Melissa Going Just A Little Easy On The GOP?
Posted on | February 18, 2012 | 15 Comments
by Smitty
I submit that Dr. Melissa Clouthier is going a tad too easy on the GOP here:
. . .I never see the GOP pondering their really bad choices in politicians that had money but had little charisma, political deftness or policy intelligence. See also: Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, and Linda McMahon. And that’s just three of them. Many bad candidates put forth by the GOP got trounced in the primaries by these Tea Party candidates because the candidates stunk so badly.
GOP apologists also don’t seem to remember what prompted the Tea Party to begin with: The Bailouts. TARP (something I was on the fence about, myself, but eventually came out against on the principle that everything the government touches turns to poo), GM bailouts, the stimulus and the gnawing anger that Republicans left their values behind with the creation of things like Medicare Part D and the Department of Homeland Security (two things that infuriated me at the time).
The Republican party leadership left their party planks and so people who actually believe in smaller government, in personal liberty, in freedom, left the GOP.
The sense that the government is doing too much for too many for little or not return; the sense that the government is piling up debt for a future generation enslaving them and their children horrified average people who decided to become politically involved and joined the Tea Party.
Anyone who is a third generation Christian knows the joy and dismay being around a new convert. It’s wonderful to see their wonder, love and affection for God and His word. It’s a little disconcerting to see scriptures distorted and extreme behavior in the name of zealotry.
The GOP (with a break for Ronald Reagan) has been just as sold out to Progress as the Democrats for the last century. The party planks had become a joke. The GOP has gerrymandered our culture with the Democrats in exchange for creating a Ruling Class. One can nearly see where the Democrats had a point, calling the GOP hypocritical for showing affinity with the Tea Parties.
But there is a substantial difference between the proffered example of recent converts to a religious faith of whatever sort, and that of the Tea Partiers to the GOP. If you’re a new student of math, nothing in the Arithmetic->Algebra->Calculus->Differential Equations progression contradicts what came before it. New material elaborates, generalizes and embellishes: it never says “Remember the part where we said you can’t divide by zero? Watch us ‘quantitatively ease’ that denominator to nothing.”
Thus, while I accept that I don’t know every Supreme Court decision by which the Tenth Amendment has been sodomized to hellnavigated about in a nuanced fashion, I don’t really feel it necessary, for these Ruling Class idiots of either party have abdicated any authority through what is very clearly malfeasance.
Our under-aged or dry readers, are encouraged to use unsweetened ice tea in lieu of whiskey if you wish to check the math in this clip:
Thus, Dr. Melissa, “The Tea Party Is Killing The Republican Party And Therefore America” seems more of an act of mercy, if you wish to allow the GOP has life remaining. PROGRESSIVISM DELENDA EST.
