Right Online: ‘Pimp Your Website’

Posted on | July 23, 2010 | 21 Comments

LAS VEGAS — The Right Online schedule this morning shows an 8:30 a.m. seminar called “Pimp Your Website: Taking It to the Next Level.” However, the person teaching that seminar is not the author of “How to Get a Million Hits on Your Blog.”

Today’s seminar on “Blogging 101” is taught by Matt Lewis and the “Twitter 101” seminar is taught by Tabitha Hale and Nansen Malin.

It’s OK. My feelings aren’t hurt. Chopped liver doesn’t have feelings.

And how bad could I feel, anyway, when I’m blogging from a posh suite at the fabulous Venetian Resort Hotel?

Wait, let’s clarify that last sentence:

And how bad could I feel, anyway, when I’m blogging completely naked from a posh suite at the fabulous Venetian Resort Hotel?

“Search engine optimization,” you see, so that if anyone is Googling for “Matt Lewis naked” or “Tabitha Hale naked,” they’ll be directed here.

But I don’t know nothing about pimping no Websites.

UPDATE: OK, having taken my shower and gotten dressed, I’m now no longer completely naked, and I’m about to leave my hotel suite, in search of this conference I’m supposed to be covering. Expect further updates . . . .

Wait: Almost forgot to add: Hit the tip jar.  A cup of coffee costs $3 in the hotel lobby and cigarettes are $9 a pack here.

In this paper, published in Economic Policy Journal, economists Yann Algan, Pierre Cahuc, and Andre Zylberberg looked at the impact of public employment on overall labor-market performance. The authors use data for a sample of OECD countries from 1960 to 2000, and they find that, on average, the creation of 100 public jobs eliminated about 150 private-sector jobs, decreased overall labor-market participation slightly, and increased by about 33 the number of unemployed workers.

Athens Runaway Lands In Myrtle Beach, SC. Nikki Haley Blogging Ensues

Our old blog buddy Jesse is chilling on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, an aerial photograph of which graces the masthead at his new digs, Right Turns Only.

Starting off with a bang, Jesse catches us up on Democratic party tactics in the Gubernatorial race, where Nikki Haley toasted her GOP opponents to a well-deserved crisp in the primary.

Possibly unable to learn from a losing strategy, it looks like the Dems might be running from that failed GOP playbook, to read Jesse’s post, “First They Call You A Whore. . .“. Truly as fragrant as that paper plant in North Charleston, such ideas.

Maybe they can contact Ezra Klein and company for some more educated mud to fling. Instead of epistemic closure, maybe the Dems could attack, I don’t know, her purported lack of barbecue fu.

At which point she might break out a mean tandoor and just commence to own them.

I have no idea if that even applies to Nikki’s ethnic traditions, and apologize in advance for any cultural insensitivity on display.

So, When Ginsburg Retires. . .

Thanks to Lindsey Graham’s latest abdication of courage, the decay of the SCOTUS into a bowl of Progressive mush continues apace.
NRO points to an NYT article on the Christian Legal Society suit against Hastings Law School, and Justice Ginsburg’s argument, that is truly disquieting:

Part of the irony of this argument is that the majority in the CLS case propounds a theory of the (enumerated) right of religious liberty that looks a lot like a status/conduct distinction — the Christian organization is free to believe what it wants but cannot act on that belief by requiring organization members to adhere to its Christian beliefs.

From the NYT:

The decision in which the statement appeared, Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, considered whether a public law school could deny recognition to a student group that excluded gay men and lesbians. The majority decided the case on narrow grounds that barely acknowledged the clash between anti-discrimination principles and religious freedom.

The concern is that, by the time all of the Obama appointees become fully ensconced, they will be re-defining what ‘the meaning of is is’ in ways that defy common sense, the principles informing the US Constitution, and societal stability.

Lindsey Graham, your decisions suck on the surface, and would likely make you look an even greater fool if your real motives were laid bare. At least Arlen Specter had enough guts to be a plain turncoat.

By drawing a line in the sand at Elena Kagan, Americans could have possibly forced the Administration to nominate a suitable candidate. The departure of Ginsburg will now bring on yet another genius trying to sell apples as if they were oranges: ‘Just concentrate on feeling something about fruit.’

A Contrary Take On That Hypothetical McCain ’08 Victory

The Daily Caller highlights a Quinnipiac poll finding

a plurality believe the country would have been better off if John McCain had beaten Mr. Obama in 2008

It’s all counter-factual. While unemployment might be lower, budget deficits would certainly be lower, and several trees would likely have been spared being turned into Danielle Steel novelsunread legislation, let’s float an important question: would there be Tea Parties?

I, for one, probably would not have been so incensed as to get into blogging. Rather, I’d have put down Liberal Fascism, said ‘Whew! Glad we dodged that bullet’, and continued to fail to participate in preserving the country.

No, that thud of the back against the wall is a fantastic motivator. That fantastic pack of useful idiots on JournoList, advancing the cause of the Grand Jihad, have had the effect of calling attention to how dire the situation really is. Had Stacy’s cousin been sworn in, the JournoList weenies could have continued their barking chihuahua antics while the noose tightened.

Now, the United States has some awareness of just how bad things are, with at least a shot at turning the situation into the trough of a sine wave, instead of a tangent line to hell.

There may have been some left-handed wisdom in having the media go all-in to elect BHO. With the Internet increasing communication amongst Americans, they may have awakened, even in a McCain administration. 2008 may have been a now-or-never year for the neo-Socialists, or whatever label you can affix to a bag of greased snakes.

In any case, this post is stating, for the record, that calling everyone’s bluff with a BHO inauguration is the better long-term path for the country. When you’re so far from sober government that doing multi-ream legislative shots at the Congressional bar seems a good idea, it’s time to purge, purge, purge.

November is coming. Three months and twelve days to energize Americans.

What Are the Odds . . .

. . . that I am, even at this very moment, boarding a Delta Airlines flight en route to Las Vegas? Well, if you have already hit the tip jar, you might know how to bet that proposition.

If you haven’t hit the tip jar yet, now would be a good time to do so. There is never a bad time to hit the tip jar, but Operation Blame Erik Telford is kind of a special occasion. Although this idea for a completely crazy trip is entirely for the purpose of covering the Right Online Conference at the fabulous Venetian Resort Hotel, it is, after all the town they call “Lost Wages.”
