Would Andrew Breitbart Survive The Come-Down?

Tunku Varadarajan achieves unintentional humor at The Daily Beast, discussing the feeding of Charlie Rangel to Cthulhu:

[Rangel’s] is a style, a method, a politics from an age when it was simply not done to ask uncomfortable questions of a black politician, lest that politician (and his supporters) retort that the questioning was racist. That protective smokescreen of “racism” was good to men like Rangel, allowing them to go about their merry ways blithely, and untroubled. It is harder to strike pouting, Manichaean postures now, when a black man holds the highest office in the land. There can be no cheap and easy shaming of critics, no slick refuge in a narrative of racial oppression.

Sure is a good thing Rep. Andre Carson got in his licks while the gettin’ was good. Aside: I attended the “Kill the Bill” protest (though was not present at the infamous non-event) and so I take that particular counter-factual just a little bit more personally.

The ground truth, contrary to T.V.’s assertion, is that Progressives will continue to piss down our backs and tell us it is raining as long as the Holy Narrative remains superior to the facts. Evil will continue to concoct dark designs, assume that good people are having those ideas, too, and therefore decide to go for a preemptive strike.

The relaxing alternate future, with Andrew Breitbart sitting in the corner of the tea house having a cup of Earl Gray and a scone, dreaming of his days jousting mad cows and odder men on cable news shows, isn’t likely to happen soon. Expect skirmishing leading up to a big political battle this November, and an all-out bun fight in two years. Racism shall be the least of the charges, I reckon.

I ran into Evan Sayet here at Right Online and he dropped by my posh suite here at the fabulous Venetian Resort Hotel. Evan asked if he could log on and check his e-mail:

Celebrities using my computer — how cool is that? It’s like getting re-Tweeted by Alyssa Milano or something. Anway, Evan then generously agreed to a brief video interview:

Man, I’ve got to work on my interview technique. Evan cracked me up during the interview as we made reference to his “opening act.” He discussed his famous 2007 Heritage Foundation speech:

During his Friday talk at Right Online, Matt Lewis offered some very helpful advice to activists about how to build online strength with Twitter contacts (hint: re-Tweets and hashtags) and talked about the importance of developing a good e-mail list.

Matt’s a really awesome guy, who had me on his podcast twice this past week to discuss the intellectual history of the paleconservative-vs.-neoconservative schism. Part One here. Part Two here.

General McChrystal Retires, Announces Duet With Shirley Sherrod

American Power reports on the good General’s retirement a month after the fertilizer hit the air circulator over a Rolling Stone article.
Sissypuss the Blog Kitty was able to get a quick interview with the General after the ceremony.
SissyPuss: So, what does a general do with himself after such an illustrious? Golf? Conquer Bulungi? Dancing with the Stars with Guns?
Gen. McChrystal: Heh. No, just kicking back for a while, catching up on old hobbies.
S: Such as. . . ?
M: Oh, singing.
S: Really? Can we expect an album of your favorite running cadences, “Up in the morning with the rising sun. . .” and all that?
M: Not so much. I’m actually working on a duet with Shirley Sherrod.
S: No way! What are you tackling? ‘Islands in the Stream’?
M: Well, we’re a little more, shall I say, angst-ridden than that, yet in a humorous way.
S: Cut the teasing or I’ll give you a jolly scratching–what are you two rebels doing?
M: Get this: Metallica, “Disposable Heroes”, but with Devo on backup.
S: That is the most insane thing I’ve heard of since Rush touring with ZZ Top, performing each others’ material.
M: Ha. We approach that level of cognitive dissonance, yelling back and forth at each other: “You coward!” she says, and I reply “You servant!”, and she screams “You blind man” and we both yell “Back to the front!”
Total primal scream therapy, considering the kind of noise we’ve been through of late. If the administration tosses any other loyal supporters under the bus, well add them.
S: How about all of the car dealer who got shut down for not having the necessary friends?
M: Well, yeah, that’s important, but we’ll save them for some giant chorus on “Bohemian Rhapsody,” I think.
S: Thanks, General. You rawk!

Full Of Shound And Fury, Signifying Nothing, Other Than Desire For
Re-election

Senator Webb of Virginia, ever the centrist duck, made some quacking noises in the WSJ today about the need to make sure that the laundry list of Federal fairness management bureaucracies should just kinda be more fair about stuff or something. His conclusion:

Nondiscrimination laws should be applied equally among all citizens, including those who happen to be white. The need for inclusiveness in our society is undeniable and irreversible, both in our markets and in our communities. Our government should be in the business of enabling opportunity for all, not in picking winners. It can do so by ensuring that artificial distinctions such as race do not determine outcomes.

Memo to my fellow politicians: Drop the Procrustean policies and allow harmony to invade the public mindset. Fairness will happen, and bitterness will fade away.

Well, wasn’t that an intellectual quaalude of Barackian proportions? We’re emoting about some undeniable need for inclusiveness that is irreversible in markets and communities. Is this crypto-capitalism? Is this as close to as you could get to capitalism and still get by your zampolit? You don’t seem to grasp that, as long as the mechanism exists, It Will Be Used. If you want to ensure artificial distinctions such as race do not determine outcomes, Senator, remove the wrongheaded bureaucracy attempting to legislate fairness, and let the legal system handle the legitimate cases of illegal activity. The Oedipal drive for the nanny state teat will always drive Procrustean, bureaucratic outcomes until the Federalist mastectomy utterly nips the collectivist funbag from the body politic.

The tell in the editorial came earlier, as far as I could observe:

I have dedicated my political career to bringing fairness to America’s economic system and to our work force, regardless of what people look like or where they may worship. Unfortunately, present-day diversity programs work against that notion, having expanded so far beyond their original purpose that they now favor anyone who does not happen to be white.

Do we need to get into your voting record, Senator? Have you not essentially been a rubber stamp for every crypto-Marxist idea that Pelosi and Reid have excreted in this atrocious 111th Congress, unless I’ve missed something. Where is your editorial promising to caucus with the GOP, if necessary, to prevent some zombie Congress from going on a brain-eating Card Check, Cap-N-Trade, &c rampage after the election in November? Where are you on making sure we’re approving Supreme Court justices who support and defend the Constitution, and don’t feel some urge to treat it as free verse about which to emote?

And speaking of the document you’ve sworn to support and defend, WTF “bringing fairness to America’s economic system and to our work force, regardless of what people look like or where they may worship”? ‘Fairness’? Where the ‘F’ is the F-word in your oath or in any of the founding documents? Why does liberty terrify you so? Why is the Federal government fretting the work force in say, Virginia? Isn’t that Governor McDonnell’s job? That whole chain of command thing–have you heard of it?

When you think of fairness, Senator Webb, does the macaca incident enter you conscience? In particular, was Ezra Klein and JournoList, or some equally spin-tastic predecessor, involved? Do you really think the whole mish-mash honorable, or was the macaca thing in the Washington Post just a cost of doing business to advance your ambitions?

But, no, your ‘political career’ is what it’s all about, yes? Reform in this country will take root when almost all have such, elected or otherwise, to the point the phrase is oxymoronic. Here’s the book: your thumb wrestling match with George Allen for the seat led you to run on the Democratic ticket. Fine. I hoped you might be a voice of reason to the Democratic caucus, USNA grad and Vietnam veteran and all. But, in the main, you’ve consistently been a tool. Perhaps these strange masters of yours have subverted you totally.

Or, this editorial could mark some renewed consciousness. Moe Lane says ‘flame out’. Yeah, JW did that in his SecNav days.

Unrelated: I’m catching a flight back to Virginia. FMJRA will be up later Saturday. Everyone come to the Patrick Murray event on Monday in Alexandria. JW’s political career is on the archery butt in 2012, but we have to do our Ted Nugent impression with Jim Moran’s in just three months.

Tim Daniel Makes The Daily Caller Without JournoList Membership

Tim Daniel, a.k.a. the Left Coast Rebel, has a solid piece in The Daily Caller, rounding up some of the wretched excess that is plaguing a local government near you.

With no evidence of any kind, I sort of wonder how many of these outsized salary payments are, at least partially, going places that would trigger embarrassment and lawsuits if fully understood.

The Daniels solution: the cloning of Chris Christie. Such a feat is readily obtainable by promoting legitimate local leadership and holding it accountable. Consider the effort involved a cost of doing business. You thought liberty was free? The best you can get for next to nothing is low-cost enslavement.

Christine O’Donnell Campaign Catches Fire, National Media Taking Notice

Posted on | July 23, 2010 | 12 Comments

LAS VEGAS — In the three days ago since I reported on Christine O’Donnell’s grassroots conservative Senate challenge to Delaware RINO Mike Castle, more national media have been paying attention. Today, Kyle Peterson of the Daily Caller reports:

Christine O’Donnell is going on the offensive in her bid for the Delaware Senate seat vacated by Vice President Joe Biden, in a race that could open up a new front in the war between Tea Partiers and those they describe as ‘RINOs,’ or Republicans in Name Only.
O’Donnell, considered an underdog for the GOP nomination, took a swing at her opponent, Republican Rep. Mike Castle, in a release sent to supporters and the media Thursday.
“Mike Castle’s voting record proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he is for special interests, against the free market, anti-Second Amendment, pro-abortion and he’s even for sanctuary cities. It’s a preposterous record,” O’Donnell said. “Calling himself a Republican is borderline schizophrenic, confused about his own political identity.” . . .

Read the whole thing. Christine O’Donnell is here at Right Online and making a strong impression on the activists in attendance. Of course, she had us at “hello,” but it’s nice to see others begin to acknowledge the significance of the Sept. 14 primary in Delaware.
