‘There Are These People in This Country’
Posted on | October 14, 2019 | Comments Off on ‘There Are These People in This Country’
How our media overlords see us:
On Sunday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” former ABC “World News’ anchor Sam Donaldson accused President Donald Trump’s supporters of having a “fixation” on returning America to a “white Christian country.”
Donaldson said, “The Trump rallies are Trump’s strong supporters. I mean, ‘lock her up,’ all the things he says, all the vicious, mean things he says, they love it. There are these people in this country. They’re good Americans otherwise. They’ll probably give you the shirt off their back, they’ll help you if you need it, but they have this fixation. They want to return this country to the white Christian country that they believe it should be again. They don’t want the diversity, and they follow him for this, but they’re not the country. We are a diverse people, we are good and strong because of that, and we’re going to come back to that. I assure you.”
Let me say this: I like Sam Donaldson. He was not born to the moneyed blueblood Eastern elite. He is the son of a West Texas farmer and got his education at a second-tier state college (now UTEP) before joining the Army where he served as an artillery captain. So he is not like some of these young punks with their Ivy League degrees and arrogant sense of entitlement. What then explains Donaldson’s attitude? I blame two things: Partisanship and generational blindness.
Sam is a Texas Democrat, plain and simple. He was born and raised in an era when there was no such thing as a Republican in Texas, and in that sense resembles Dan Rather — a native of Wharton, Texas, three years older than Donaldson — and also his late ABC colleague, Cokie Roberts, the daughter of Louisiana Democrat Hale Boggs. To such people, the offspring of New Deal Democrats, and themselves old enough to recall the JFK “Camelot” era, the Democrats are and always will be the natural rulers of America. They instinctively act as cheerleaders for the Democrats the way I cheer for the Alabama Crimson Tide, expressing a sense of inherited loyalty, as it were. No fact or argument can dissuade them from this partisanship, because it is inherently irrational.
The other factor is that a rich old white guy like Donaldson cannot be made to understand what “diversity” means in practical terms for the young white person from less privileged circumstances. While his own four children are probably doing all right for themselves, it is the offspring of the white working and middle classes who are watching their communities and life prospects destroyed in the name of “diversity.”
What would Sam Donaldson say to the young white person in Minnesota, for example, who cannot go to downtown Minneapolis for fear of being assaulted by Somali street gangs? It’s impossible to make many people of Donaldson’s generation come to grips with such problems, or to make them understand that these problems are a result of policy decisions which could easily be amended or reversed without harming any lawful immigrant. It is only because our current crazy-quilt pattern of immigration laws act as perverse incentives — a magnet for illegal immigration — that we have the problems we now have, and most elders in both political parties are blind to the scope and nature of the situation.
Sam Donaldson’s accusation that Trump’s supporters are merely nostalgic reactionaries is typical of a certain class of people who, for various reasons, refuse to consider the possibility that America is now facing problems without precedence in our history, the solution of which will require us to alter or abandon our established pattern of politics.
Trump does not represent a return to some beloved status quo ante, but rather an attempt to shake off the legacy of what, for lack of a better term, I call Bushism — a go-along-to-get-along attitude of “bipartisan compromise” that makes Republicans not the opponents of Democrats, but rather their accomplices. In an age when Democrats are beholden to the likes of Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, conservatives can no longer imagine that we are dealing with people of good will, who want the best for America’s future. Today’s Democrats hate America and want to destroy it, so that they can preside over the wreckage and ruin.
Her Royal Majesty the Queen Declares Brexit Parliament’s Top Priority
Posted on | October 14, 2019 | Comments Off on Her Royal Majesty the Queen Declares Brexit Parliament’s Top Priority
Somewhat of a formality, but nevertheless important:
The U.K. government is still determined to see Brexit through by October 31 — and you can take that from the queen.
The monarch opened her speech Monday, which sets out the government’s legislative plans, by making it clear that Boris Johnson’s top priority is “to secure the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union on 31 October.”
Speaking from the throne in the House of Lords, the queen said her government intends to develop a new partnership with the EU “based on free trade and friendly cooperation.”
The ceremony marks the beginning of a new parliamentary session and lays out the government’s new legislative agenda, with 26 bills announced on domestic policy areas including crime, immigration, health, and the environment.
However, since Prime Minister Boris Johnson does not command a majority in the House of Commons these plans are unlikely to become law quickly and instead are an indication of what the Tories would promise if they secure a general election.
Too bad the Queen didn’t demand the beheadings of Remainers.
Rule 5 Sunday: Revolution Calling

It’s been a disappointing week on the Rule 5 front. All the actresses and models who normally get all excited about great social movements have fallen oddly silent this week, which I guess is better than the disgusting slurping on Chairman Xi’s microwiener currently being performed by the NBA and Blizzard, and as an ongoing perversion by Disney, Nike, Apple, and other supposedly American corporations. I don’t know, maybe while I was suspended from Twitter last night I missed Alyssa Milano’s heartfelt plea for freedom in Hong Kong, but somehow I doubt it. So this week, we’re going to again choose cute over pretty, and present the newest mascot of the Hong Kong protesters, Mei from the game Overwatch, which is very popular in America and Red China both. Mei’s background is Chinese, so it was almost inevitable that she’d be seized on as a symbol of freedom. Here’s one of the propaganda posters whipped up by online supporters of the Hong Kong protesters.

On a happier note, Ninety Miles From Tyranny brings us Hot Pick of the Late Night, The 90 Miles Mystery Box Episode #769, Morning Mistress, and Girls With Guns. At Animal Magnetism, it’s Rule Five Persistence Hunting Friday and the Saturday Gingermageddon.

Leading #NeverTrump ‘Expert’ Has Just Now Noticed the Democrats Are Crazy
Posted on | October 13, 2019 | Comments Off on Leading #NeverTrump ‘Expert’ Has Just Now Noticed the Democrats Are Crazy
It’s possible you have no idea who Tom Nichols is, but he is The Expert™ who wrote The Book™ about being The Expert™ and he is one of the #NeverTrump contingent frequently mocked by Ace of Spades.
Despite his exaggerated sense of his own importance, Tom Nichols is actually such a dime-a-dozen nobody that you can ignore him completely (as is my habit) and never really miss anything of value. Nevertheless, because he is an ex-Republican who hates Trump, The Expert™ Tom Nichols has access to media platforms that are usually off-limits to actual conservatives, and so at times he becomes impossible to ignore.
In USA Today, Nichols takes issue with his new Democrat allies:
When we watched CNN’s LGBTQ town hall for the Democratic candidates Thursday, we had very different reactions. This is the event, you remember, where former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas said he’d punish religious institutions for refusing gay marriage, and where Sen. Kamala Harris of California started by informing us of her pronouns, and then host Chris Cuomo, after a mild and dopey joke, had to go on Twitter the next day and apologize for making light of it. This is where Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts fielded a question about traditional marriage with a sneering, smug insinuation that the only people who would ask her about that are men who can’t find a woman.
You thought it was great. You saw a ringing defense of LGBTQ rights and a reaffirmation of what Democrats stand for.
I saw it and thought: Are these people insane? Are they trying to lose the election? . . .
Yes, Mr. Nichols, the Democrats are insane, and if you hadn’t been so busy with whatever it is you’re so Expert™ about, maybe you would have noticed before Thursday night. But ignore me. I’m just some guy with a blog, and USA Today would never let me publish a column there.

Illegal Alien Who Admitted Transgender Shooting Turned Loose by Dallas Judge
Posted on | October 12, 2019 | 1 Comment
Once again, the anti-American principles of the “progressive” Left produce consequences contrary to their expressed goals:
The man accused of shooting a transgender woman in Dallas last month was deported in 2010 and is committing a felony by being in the U.S., according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Domingo Ramirez-Cayente, a 29-year-old Mexican citizen, was arrested Sept. 24 and charged with aggravated assault. According to an affidavit, he admitted to police that he attacked Daniela Calderon, 35, who was shot six times in the abdomen, hip and chest. Days later, Ramirez-Cayente posted bond and was released from the Dallas County jail.
The judge who set his bond did not order Ramirez-Cayente to wear an ankle monitor.
On Thursday, ICE confirmed to The Dallas Morning News that Ramirez-Cayente is undocumented and was deported nine years ago. Immigrants who reenter the country after having been removed can be charged with a felony, punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison. ICE is encouraging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact local immigration enforcement officials.
“On March 18, 2010, immigration officials apprehended Domingo Ramirez-Cayente, 29, Mexico, near Brackettville, Texas, after he illegally entered the U.S.,” ICE spokesman Timothy Oberle told The News in a statement. “Ramirez-Cayente was processed as an expedited removal and removed to Mexico on March 27, 2010. ICE has not encountered Ramirez-Cayente since his 2010 removal. ICE urges anyone with information regarding Ramirez-Cayente’s location in the United States to contact their local ICE office.” . . .
Turley set the bond at $25,000 and told Ramirez-Cayente he could not drink alcohol, possess a weapon or have contact with Calderon. But the judge did not order electronic monitoring.
The district attorney’s office disagreed with that decision but was unable to stop it in time, a spokeswoman said. . . .
An undocumented immigrant from Honduras, Calderon hopes to secure a U visa, which allows victims of certain crimes to stay in the U.S. and eventually apply for a green card if they provide information about what happened to them to law enforcement.
In an interview with The News on Oct. 4, Calderon said she was thrown into depression when she heard that Ramirez-Cayente had bonded out.
“Who does justice serve, if by paying a bond a man can leave and this crime can go unpunished? Or, what if he had killed me? It’s unjust. In these moments, I feel courage, lots of frustration,” Calderon said. “He shot me because he hates gay people. I never had contact with him. I never touched him, nothing. Then, why would he shoot me without knowing me? This is a person who is bad in the head and those people should not be on the outside.”
She said her attacker yelled homophobic and transphobic slurs at her. The FBI will conduct its own investigation, according to the Dallas Police Department, but it’s unclear whether any state or federal authorities will charge Ramirez-Cayente with a hate crime.
So the victim, an illegal alien from Honduras, wants a green card, but is surprised that the judge set his/“her” attacker free? Oh, and the United States can’t even enforce our own border — because that would be racist — but yet we’re supposed to be enforcing “hate crime” laws?
Do those who advocate on behalf of the soi-disant “LGBTQ community” imagine that criminals from Latin America share their sentiments? Or are these contradictions not apparent to them?
Biden Accuses Americans of Ignorance, Warns of Anti-Gay ‘Terrorist Groups’
Posted on | October 12, 2019 | 1 Comment
Democrat presidential candidates shamelessly pandered to the advocates of sodomy in a televised town hall Thursday on CNN, and Joe Biden did not ingratiate himself with the Left when he joked about “coming out” and then made a gaffe that’s weird even by Biden’s standards:
Think about it. The idea it’s normal. It’s normalized. It’s not anything strange. It’s not strange. That’s the generic point.
And the more people know that, the more they understand it — remember, Anderson, back 15, 20 years ago, we talked about this in — in San Francisco was all about, well, you know, gay — gay bath houses. And everybody — it’s all about around-the-clock sex. It’s all — come on, man. Gay couples are more likely to say together longer than heterosexual couples.
Notice the disorganized syntax, the word-salad quality of what Biden said. He had been headed toward making a “generic point” about homosexuality being “normalized,” something people must be encouraged to understand, when suddenly another thought popped into his head. Biden seems to have wished to make a point about “progress” in terms of societal acceptance of homosexuality. Therefore, Biden invoked an earlier time “15, 20 years ago” (which if taken literally would mean circa 1999-2004) when anti-gay prejudice was based on perceptions of widespread promiscuity — “gay bath houses . . . around-the-clock sex.” Or at least, that seems to be what Biden was trying to suggest.
Try to speak in complete sentences, Joe. Finish whatever argument you’re making before interrupting yourself to share some new idea that just popped into your senile mind. His “gay bath house” non sequitur was called “weird” and “bizarre,” and CNN’s town hall was panned as “disastrous” by John McCormack of National Review, but it’s important to note what was truly obnoxious in what Biden said Thursday.
His “generic point” was that anyone who disapproves of homosexuality, or opposes any policy agenda favored by the organized gay-rights lobby, must be motivated by ignorance, and in need of enlightenment. Yet disagreement on this subject does not reflect a difference of knowledge, but rather different systems of moral values. One could have a vast knowledge about homosexual behavior — indeed, one might have extensive direct personal experience with the phenomenon — without believing such behavior should be “normalized.”
It is a fact that there are many people who, in their own inclinations and appetites, are perhaps as gay as Anderson Cooper, but don’t align themselves with the LGBT political movement and its policy goals. Pay close attention to what Biden said Thursday:
The generic point I’m making here is, folks, the vast majority of people in America are not homophobic. They’re just afraid. They don’t understand. They don’t know. They don’t know what to do or say. . . .
If you had a business lunch eight, ten years ago, and there were six or seven people at the lunch, and a gay waiter came up and said something that identified himself being gay, in fact, if one of the people made fun of that waiter, the vast majority of people wouldn’t have said anything at the table. Today you’d all look at him and say, if you’re straight as can be, look at him and say, what the hell is the matter with you? And he’d never be invited back.
The point is, they’re not afraid now to stand up and say — because guess what? We learn.
Again, the adjectives “weird” and “bizarre” are appropriate. Biden is speaking of a time “eight, ten years ago” — i.e., 2009-2011 — when no one at a “business lunch” would have objected if someone made a joke at the expense of a gay waiter. Well, I don’t know, if he was an obvious mincing fairy, maybe someone would have said something, but . . .
What? No, I’m just pointing out the absurdity of Biden’s rhetoric, which involves a few different unstated premises:
- The idea that a valid metric of “homophobia” is whether someone makes jokes about gay people; I make jokes about all kinds of people, and it doesn’t mean I hate any of them;
- The attribution of universal victimhood to gay people, who we are supposed to believe are so emotionally vulnerable that they are irreparably harmed by jokes;
and - The idea that “the vast majority of people in America” are “just afraid” because they “don’t understand” — they are ignorant, and must “learn” whatever it is that cures homophobia.
These are the beliefs Biden was attempting to express in his incoherent gibberish, and the premises of his argument (which are widely held by liberals) simply cannot withstand objective scrutiny. As with every other issue, Democrats are promoting in regard to gay people what Thomas Sowell described as The Vision of the Anointed, the idea that every public-policy dispute involves a contest between the Enlightened Few and the Benighted Many. Liberals consider themselves to be morally and intellectually superior to such an extent that the rest of us are in need of their tutelage. Whatever the issue — high-speed rail in California or “Drag Queen Story Hour” at your local library — liberals think of their opponents as intellectually inferior to themselves, so that your opinion is wrong, and you are a bad person, if you disagree with a liberal.
It is this attitude that inspires Democrats to abrogate the First Amendment freedom of their opponents, by labeling the expression of disagreement as “hate speech.” You will scarcely be surprised that Biden endorsed surveillance of “terrorist groups” that disagree with him:
At the CNN LGBT town hall on Thursday, former Vice President Joe Biden advocated for a kind of terror watchlist to monitor organizations that oppose same-sex marriage and transgender identity, similar to a previous Obama administration effort targeting conservatives groups. This monitoring echoed the Southern Poverty Law Center’s accusations that mainstream conservative Christian organizations are “anti-LGBT hate groups” on par with the Ku Klux Klan. . . .
“What we had before to deal with hate crimes was we had a position in our administration, within both the Department of Justice as well as within Homeland Security, a provision to keep watch on these groups that we know are out there — like terrorist groups, they’re similar — that we know are out there, to be able to follow — without violating their First Amendment rights — to be able to follow what they’re doing and follow up on threats that come forward,” Biden said.
While it remains unclear specifically to what Biden was referring, it seems likely this effort has something to do with a DHS report about “Rightwing Extremism,” which presented a broad swath of conservative groups as “hate-oriented.”
When mentioned in the context of LGBT issues, Biden’s call for monitoring groups “similar to terrorist groups” echoes the talking points of the SPLC, which has demonized conservative Christian organizations like Alliance Defending Freedom (a law firm that has won many Supreme Court cases), D. James Kennedy Ministries (cut off from Amazon’s charity program thanks to the SPLC), and the Family Research Council (which faced an active shooter thanks to the SPLC’s accusations). Conservatives targeted by the SPLC have lost access to their credit cards. Their organizations have been banned by sites like GoFundMe and Eventbrite, and even booted from Mar-a-Lago.
Again, we can only understand what’s wrong with this approach by extracting from Biden’s remarks his unstated premises. Biden implies that “hate crimes” against homosexuals are somehow inspired by the kind of “terrorist groups” the Obama administration made it a policy to “watch.” Good luck finding any evidence to support that belief.
Most actual violence against gay people is not committed by the kind of people who support the Family Research Council. It’s not Trump supporters who are murdering “transgender women of color.”
There is no demonstrable cause-and-effect relationship between the activism of social conservative groups like FRC and the “hate crimes” perpetrated against members of the LGBT community. Biden is expressing a media-generated mythology about a “climate of hate”:
For example, in June 2017, it was reported that 17-year-old Rayquann Deonte Jernigan, a/k/a “Ava Le’Ray Barrin,” had become the “Youngest Trans Murder Victim In The U.S. This Year.” Was this murder caused by a Trump-inspired “climate of hate”? No, according to police in Athens, Georgia, this fatal shooting was “the culmination of a feud between two transgender groups.” A judge dismissed a murder charge against the accused shooter, ruling that Jalen Breon Brown, 21, acted in self-defense during a fight with Jernigan. Or what about the March 2018 murder of Darrel “Amia Tyrae” Berryman in Louisiana? The Human Rights Campaign reported that Berryman, “a transgender woman of color,” had become “the seventh known homicide of a transgender person this year.” Was Berryman killed by a Republican voter? No, the police charged Dedrick Butler, a 22-year-old convicted felon, with murdering Berryman in a $55-a-night East Baton Rouge motel room where “Amia Tyrae” was working as a prostitute.
Pretty sure these perps weren’t on the FRC mailing list.
Oh, and since Joe Biden raised the subject let’s talk about round-the-clock sex in gay bath houses. The era to which Biden refers was the late 1970s and early ’80s (not “15, 20 years ago”), a climate of rampant homosexual promiscuity that gave rise to the AIDS epidemic.
In 1982, the CDC reported that that the “median number of lifetime male sexual partners” for gay men diagnosed with AIDS was 1,160. In other words, a majority of the first men diagnosed with this sexually transmitted disease had more than one thousand partners. The man known as “Patient Zero” of the AIDS epidemic, Gaetan Dugas, estimated that he had sex with 2,500 men from 1972 to 1982, i.e., 250 different partners every year for 10 consecutive years. We may stipulate that Dugas was an extreme example, but his behavior was the tip of a very large iceberg of gay promiscuity during the Disco Era. But oh, you’re just an ignorant bigot if you disapprove of such behavior.
