‘Is He the New Tiger Woods?’

Posted on | June 4, 2011 | 59 Comments

The title quote is from Andrea Lafferty of the Traditional Values Coalition in a story by Matthew Boyle of the Daily Caller:

Conservative columnist Michelle Malkin told The Daily Caller Weiner’s “long history” of “skirt-chasing” raises more questions about the New York Democrat’s Capitol Hill sexual secrets and expects more women with similar stories to come forward.
“Stories about his hot pursuits of young Capitol Hill interns date back to 2001,” Malkin said in an email. “At least one young woman told liberal Vanity Fair magazine that Weiner hunted down her e-mail address, bragged about riding on Air Force One, and extended an invitation to visit his office in person. The photo gallery of his select group of young female followers/followees on Twitter suggests a continued hunt.”
Andrea Lafferty of the Traditional Values Coalition expects this emerging pattern to get bigger and clearer soon. “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” she told TheDC on Wednesday. “How many other women are going to come forward? Is he the new Tiger Woods?”
Malkin worries about the young female staffers and interns in Weiner’s office and in nearby offices. It’s a possibility they could feel threatened or pressured by Weiner’s advances.

Read the whole thing. While a good reporter never burns his sources, trust me when I say that these kinds of questions are now the subject of intensive scrutiny by journalists, who are checking off names on lists as possible objects of Weiner’s amorous interest. Laffety’s hunch — “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire” — is shared by a lot of people, both in the Beltway press and the New Media.

There may be other high-heeled shoes dropping, if any ladies on Capitol Hill have tales to tell. The press-corps piranhas smell blood in the water and Weiner deeply offended Washington journalists by trying to stonewall his way out of this mess, and called a CNN producer a “jackass,” to boot. I wonder if Emily Miller of The Washington Times thinks Weiner might be the kind of guy who would sexually harass attractive young female staffers.

UPDATE: The Lonely Conservative: “In all fairness to Tiger, I don’t recall him appearing before the media to tell crotch jokes.”

UPDATE III: A new story today by Daniel Libit at TheDaily.com says circumstantial evidence is consistent with Weiner sending the photo in question.

The Tiger comment will leave a mark…ouch.  Weiner must feel like he just took a drive off to tee right into his wiener.

Most of Weiner’s escapades were undoubtably when he was single.  So short of him really being a pig or a stalker, consenting sex between adults under those circumstances is not a news story.

But engaging in shenanigans a year into a marriage is a very bad sign on a personal level and is a strong evidence of a complete lack of judgment on a professional level.   And given his wife has a professional profile, that lack of judgment is just doubled.

Well color me shocked……..  And Stunned!  Yes.  Shocked, and Stunned.

Who would ever have expected it from a Leftist Congressman who thought he was something else?

I’d be surprised if it’s not true actually, but I never trust any Congressman any further than I can throw them into a force 5 hurricane.

It’s usually sex or money, but it’s always something.  Nobody would spend a half million $ or more on a job that pays $150k, give or take, unless there was something else there to make it pay off.

    Money, marbles, or chalk.

There’s got to be some kind of payoff, or they wouldn’t be there.  Which is why I trust none of them as far as I can thrown them into said Force Five Hurricane.  (And I”m only a Middleweight.  So there you go.)

Joe, I married at age 29 after what you might call an “active bachelorhood.” And I know that the psychological adjustment to marital monogamy can be quite difficult.

Weiner was a bachelor until he was 44 or 45. How much more difficult must that adjustment be for him?

Furthermore, if you will read the the 2001 Vanity Fair article (it’s linked in the Daily Caller item), you’ll see that Weiner had a particular style in regard to approaching women — a quite assertive, persistent style.

Well, OK. Different guys, different styles. My own style — that is to say, my best style, once I was in my 20s and had my game down — was a sort of “stick-and-move” approach: Flirt a little bit, back off, evaluate the reaction and, if the signs were good, flirt some more. Also, I used more of a “shotgun” than a “rifle” approach, flirting with lots of different women in a bar or at a party, rather than zooming in to focus on just one. The thing I learned to avoid was to “crowd” a girl and put the pressure on, because that high-pressure approach makes girls feel uncomfortable.

Whereas, if we take that Vanity Fair story at face value, Weiner didn’t hesitate to focus on one target and use the high-pressure approach. As I say, different guys, different styles, and if that worked for him, OK. However, if we extend this whole hypothetical speculation thing a bit further, we might wonder if Weiner’s asssertive style reflects a certain personality type, and further wonder how that might be implicated in this whole situation.

    Just sayin’ . . .

I should add, I hung up the spurs more than 20 years ago, and my memories of bachelorhood certainly may be less than accurate due to the rosy glow of nostalgia. For all I know, my “game” was crap and girls just took pity on me because I was such an obvious loser.

I found that the high pressure approach never worked, that the stick and move approach you describe (I called it keeping one’s options open and paying attentiont to signals that the girl might actually like you) worked best.  I also made the transition around the same time you did and I dated my wife exclusively for several years before we married, so there was a transition.

But getting back to Weiner.  Whatever his dating bachelor style–Cowboy Weiner should not be breaking out the spurs on maverick mares.   I have no idea if their marriage is real or not (I will assume it is real)–but this is a very bad sign.  This behavior by Weiner is never acceptable in any marriage, but Huma Abedin is a serious high profile person and certainly not one who got married to Anthony Weiner to be made a fool of.   The public humiliation factor only makes the implications of all of this worse.

Bill Clinton was always the awkward kid in big boy jeans.  It seemed he needed conquest as some sort of affirmation.  From that twitter-facebook picture, I am guessing Anthony Weiner is still that awkward 13 year old bar mitvah boy hoping to get laid with the hot girl.  It does not seem he is serious about making a life with Huma.

Yes, flinging yourself against the bar on Ladies’ Night and shouting to the crowd “Take me! Take me now!” could be considered a ‘shotgun’ approach… it’s just a shame most Super 8 cameras back then didn’t have sound, because from the expression on your face you were really selling the line…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1385852725 Richard Mcenroe

Unfortunately, Tiger’s transgressions only affected himself, his family and his sponsors.  Wags Weiner’s embarrassments, on the other hand, reflect on the judgment and character of a man who thinks he should have a say in running the country or at least NYC…

  • Anamika

We are not interested in Weiner’s dating habits, or yours.

Eagerly awaiting your coverage of Herman Cain back in full swing at ToM after Weiner’s distraction.

  • Anamika

…or of the  congressman who is trying to get rid of medicare, who is bein broadsided by opposition from the religious community.

He (as well as many fellow republicans) are being challenged to read the Bible:

    Paul Ryan’s Ayn Rand Problem

Mid-way down the article is a video ad being run in Congressman Ryan’s district — which no doubt will go viral on the internet.

After the video the ‘next’ video offered is a 3 part interview Mike Wallace did with Ayn Rand back in 1959. Very interesting!

Finally, the republicans who have for 30 years co-oped the Bible as their authoriity for action and values are being challenged to face their contraditions based on their support of Ayn Rand’s ‘philosophy of self-ishness’.

It will be interesting to see what follows.

But alas, RSM doesn’t find this news worthy or a topic of interest yet.

When any Leftist can find me the verse where Jesus recommends coopting Caesar’s troops to steal money from all and sundry at spear or gunpoint so that alms can be distributed with great fanfare to the Roman mob, I might be interested in their religious opinion.

Until then, I’ll go with what He actually said, which is that charity is an act of personal religious faith, best accomplished anonymously.

Incidentally, Mrs SDN, the yeshiva educated daughter of a Conservative rabbi, agrees that that injunction to private charity is in accordance with Jewish understanding as well.

I wonder how many other dic-pics the Weiner has sent out.

I wonder how many of them did and did not have it covered by underwear.

  • Joe

Anamika you are almost cute in your lame attempt to steer the conversation.  Almost.

  • JeffS

Time to start your own blog, Anamika, if you’re going to start dictating content on Stacy’s.  Even if you are trying to prove you aren’t obsessed with the human penis.

Besides, Weiner’s own obsession is not a distraction, no more than was Bubba’s penchant for getting serviced by interns in the Oval Office.   And for the same reason:  it’s a discussion on how politicians pose as being intellectually elite and above the unwashed masses, but are only human.  This becomes absolutely clear when they attempt to hide their not-so-trifling ways using their power and influence…….and get all pissy when that fails.

  • Anamika

You obsession with Weiner’s penis is going into dangerous underwear sniffing territory.

  • http://thepagantemple.blogspot.com/ ThePaganTemple

And “you” obsession with protecting Weiner makes me think you’re his magic condom.

  • Anamika

    Re. SDN

They are relgious leaders/common christians, not card carrying leftists or right wing christsian fundies.

    More here:

  • Anamika

Now you must be wondering if those dic-pics show a condom or not? Your condition is even more actute than previously thought.

  • Liz

My grandfather was a cheerfully amoral man. And even he pulled me onto his knee when I was little, looked me dead in the eyes, and gave me what he said would be the only piece of life advice he would ever give me:

“Nothing in writing, Libby. No, really, look at me: Nothing. In. Writing. Don’t just give people evidence on a plate.”

    (This was before the internet.)

    How freaking hard *is* that?

  • http://2011.ak4mc.us/ McGehee

I’m really starting to wonder if Anamika’s initials are A.W.

  • http://thepagantemple.blogspot.com/ ThePaganTemple

Why? Weiner has probably spilled his brains into condoms many times, so who’s to say one of them couldn’t come to life and talk bullshit?

  • Anamika

Time to start your own blog, Anamika

What makes you think you will succeed where Stacy, Smitty, Wombat et al  had all failed! Hahaha!

Even if you are trying to prove you aren’t obsessed with the human penis.

I’m not. I’m merely trying to help your case.

Besides, Weiner’s own obsession is not a distraction, no more than was
Bubba’s penchant for getting serviced by interns in the Oval Office.

Can’t be a more falser equivalence. What you have is one undie-pic (perhaps sent out by the congressman to a girl friend when he was still a bachelor)  that was very likely hacked using a simple yfrog security loophole that helps post a pic to anyone’s twitter feed.

  • Liz

Anamika, why are you here? You clearly don’t respect the way the conversation is going, you don’t agree with the ethos and you constantly want to change it.

If you’re constantly contradicting people because you see yourself as being, like, totally necessary, because we all just *need* to have your oh so necessary viewpoint, then that makes you a troll.

I do read leftist blogs. I just don’t go on threads about a topic they’re enjoying and start trolling, like you do. “Oh, yeah, well what about the deficit…pathetic rambling…4,000 words of the same…whine…moan…oh god I’m such a loser…” In all seriousness, you need to start asking why you’re trolling a site and people you admit you neither like nor respect.

Again, stop being so pathetic. Why not start your own blog, if you have so many necessary things to say? Oh, right, because that would involve trying to get your views out there without piggybacking on someone else’s hard work.

  • Anamika

    Some wondered/wonder if i was/am GG.

I wonder some of the conservative males who are obsessing over the Weiner case with particular attention to his dic-pics are perhaps closet gays who couldn’t come to grips with their own reality. Who knows this could all end up helping them face the issue.

    Weiner’s story starting to unravel.

Anamika will try to bury it in lengthy boring posts.

  • http://www.redstateeclectic.typepad.com AngelaTC

Ryan’s budget = Ayn Rand? *snort*  You people haven’t actually read anything she wrote, have you?

But facts are facts.  The voucher program would be an immense improvement over the system we have now, but until the GOP gets the ball and runs with it, instead of consistently playing defense, nothing is going to change until the system collapses.  Which is a very bad thing for the small government minded folks like me, because people won’t be looking for freedom and liberty – they’ll be looking for help.

    It’s a liberal wet dream!

The question should be, “Is He the New Tiger’s Woody?”

I doubt that the little Weiner could putt a golf ball very far.

  • Joe

That post above is morning Weiner.

  • JeffS

Poor, poor Anamika.  The stress of simultaneously trying to prove a lack of penis obsession AND distract people from Weiner’s self-inflicted wounds has resulted in terminal cognitive dissonance.

What a shame, such an intellect crashing to the ground, and burning up like the Hindenburg.  Oh, the humanity!

The horny dolphin video is a trip.  That pretty much sums up Anthony Weiner.

  • JeffS

Oho!  Anamika, penis obsessed Weiner supporter, accuses others of penis obsession!

Methinks I doth smell projection, and projection, thy name is Anamika.

  • Anonymous

Anamika, I noticed that you avoided one of JeffS’s more salient points, which is that this is an opportunity to “have a  discussion on how politicians pose as being intellectually elite and above the unwashed masses, but are only human.  This becomes absolutely clear when they attempt to hide their not-so-trifling ways using their power and influence…….and get all pissy when that fails.”

The above lesson applies even if everything about this episode had been the same except that Weiner had sent a tweet to a (male) buddy laughing about how stupid and gullible are his constituents – and then tried to cover it up with the “hacked” tweet and so forth.

The real story is the Weiner is a wiener, not that he has a wiener – as much as you’d like to make it about the latter.

  • JeffS

Anamika, if you just follow Weiner on Twitter, and maybe send him some intimate photos, you’ll get the attention that you truly crave.

  • http://twitter.com/dustbury Charles G Hill

So that’s the equation: Woods = putts; Weiner = putz.

    Works for me.

  • JeffS

PGlenn, the fact is, Anamika doesn’t want us to discuss the all-too-apparent faults of Democrat politicians, period.  Weiner is merely the most recent, and most blatantly self-serving, example of that.

And given how far down in the toilet the ratings for Obama and his flying monkeys are, anything that demonstrates the basic fecklessness and cluelessness of the Democratic Party these days, Weinergate is doing them no favors.

Seriously.  Weiner is one the most ardent defenders of Obamacare, a major cheerleader of the most destructive piece of legislation ever grunted out by Congress.  And here he is, melting down on national TV because he has been exposed as a virtual weinie wagger by his own, ummmmm, digit.

Whatever Weiner does reflects onto the Democrats.  Which is why they want this to end.  He’s dragging them down with him.

Just like the other lefties in Congress: Pelosi, Franks, Wasserman-Schultz, Reid, etc.  At least they try to stay on the Party Message.  And at least the Party Message specifically excludes cracking crotch jokes with reporters.  So, at least, they’re united in their idiocy.  United idiots, which, somehow, appeals to the leftie mindset.  Mind boggling, of course, but, then, I’m not a lefties.

Weiner has invented his own brand of idiocy, and hence is not a team player.  He exposes the Democrats as the hypocrites and frauds that they are.  Which is the basic reason why Anamika keeps on trying to change the subject.

  • Anonymous

JeffS, yes, but we shouldn’t underestimate the Anamikas of the Democrat/progressive universe.

For example, Anamika was clever enough to avoid your point about politicians posing as intellectual elites, not just because of his/her first-level impulse to defend any and every Democrat/progressive, but because Anamika sensed (reasoned would be too strong a word), on a deeper level, where the logic of your point was heading.

(Btw, Anamika, if you’re reading this, respond to the point JeffS made in the 2nd paragraph above, i.e., the “not-so-trifling” paragraph, and we can pick up the discussion from there . . . ).

The Anamikas out there are brilliant when it comes to preserving their worldview against incompatible realities, using an ideological defense ”platform” that includes cognitive dissonance, but many other devices as well.

  • Poteen

Sad  commentary on our culture when a twerp like Weiner, , drawing attention to his tallywhacker, can elicit anything but laughter as a response.

  • Anamika

    Re. PGlenn

“have a  discussion on how politicians pose as being intellectually elite and above the unwashed masses, but are only human.  This becomes
absolutely clear when they attempt to hide their not-so-trifling ways
using their power and influence…….and get all pissy when that
    fails.”–JeffS

Assuming Weiner was guilty of tweeting the pic to the intended recipient, i don’t think he used his “power and influence” as a congressman to hide the issue before or after the said event. If he is guilty, he would be in NOT using all the power and influence he has as a congressman to press for an FBI interrogation.

  • Anamika

I didn’t wonder about it until I saw you carrying on an argument with yourself in another thread.

Why won’t you confirm it with Wombat if it was me?  Oh, wait a sec, he might be as clueless as you.

  • Anamika

Speaking from first hand experience, Jeff?

    No thanks.

  • http://thepagantemple.blogspot.com/ ThePaganTemple

Why won’t you confirm it with Wombat if it was me?

Because I don’t care who are you. I know what you are. You are a Wiener Lover.

  • http://thepagantemple.blogspot.com/ ThePaganTemple

Its always good when an asshat liberal Democrat makes such a fool of himself he becomes an object of derision even in the media.
