The New O-Phone Is Here!

Many people are excited about Apple’s latest upgrade to the iPhone, but this Obama voter was even more excited about the free phone she got because (she says) of President Obama:

Rush Limbaugh says this is the “new model citizen,” and liberals have predictably rushed to condemn this as RAAAAACIST:

The Obama Phone video belongs to a genre popular on conservative blogs in which poor people, usually black, confirm conservatives’ worst 47-percent fears by saying they can get something for nothing because Obama’s in office. The message is, “Here’s what Obama’s supporters really look like.”

That item, by the way, is by Elspeth Reeve, whose career was launched in disgrace by the Scott Beauchamp scandal, and who has yet managed to fail her way upward to the Atlantic, proving once again that liberalism can excuse any sin committed on behalf of the liberal cause.

Fabricated stories and shabby ethics? No problem!

Exactly how Reeve got this gig as the expert mind-reader of conservative bigotry — The Racism Whisperer — I don’t know, but I agree with Patterico’s defense of the free-phone video:

Conservatives should not have to shy away from such amusing examples of entitlement mentality simply because the particular proponent of that mentality happens to be black.

By the way, I was waaay ahead of the curve on this free cellphone issue, having first reported about it in October 2008. That’s right — the free cellphone program pre-existed Obama’s election.

So the Democrats have their usual defense: Blame Bush!

The program is called Lifeline, established in 1984, originally created to subsidize landline phone service for low income Americans, funded by government-collected telecommunication fees, paid by consumers.
In 2008, the program was expanded to support cell phones which quickly escalated the cost of the program. In 2008 the program cost $772 million, but by 2011 it cost $1.6 billion.
A 2011 audit found that 269,000 wireless Lifeline subscribers were receiving free phones and monthly service from two or more carriers. Several websites have been created to promote “free” government cell phones, including the”The Obama Cell Phone” website at Obamaphone.net.

Yes: Taxpayers are forced to pay $1.6 billion — billion, with a “B” — to provide free cellphones for Obama voters.

And if you don’t like it, you’re a racist!

    -FACT: There is no Obama phone. Never has been.

    -There is a government program that will provide low-income people with a free or low cost cell phone.

    And guess who started it?

    It was started in 2008 under George W. Bush.

    -Even more–guess who originated it?

    The idea of providing low-income individuals with subsidized phone service was originated in the Reagan administration following the break-up of AT&T in 1984.

    -The program is paid for by telecommunications companies through an independent non-profit, not through tax revenue.

    I know truth is hard. But that’s what you’re screaming for, right? Truth?

    Think. Don’t be manipulated–they expect you get aroused like enraged fools.

    Who gives a flying fuck who started it. She (in the video) believes Obama gave her that phone for FREE. Hard working tax payers are paying for that phone, so she can follow the demi-god around. She is, like many people who vote for this crappy precident are moochers.

    As for manipulation, there actually is a website called “Obamaphone.net”; if Obama has a problem with it, he ought to shut it down. That could be done if the webmaster of that site is using Obama’s name without permission.

    As this has been around for a while, and Obama has some fairly savvy tech people on his campaign staff, it’s hard to believe the Obama campaign doesn’t know about the site. So it’s a safe assumption that the campaign IS aware of the site.

    Without action, Obama allows the association to continue. Regardless of when the program, Obama is clearly allowing people to THINK it’s an Obamaphone.

    So, he owns this program….until he personally denounces it. It’s too late for leftie spinmasters like yourself to try and contain.

    Deal with it.

    yeah fiscal year 2008 started in 2007, just as the arsonists known as the conservative republican GOP where getting their act together to really attempt to bring this country to its knees….and you know what unlike Osama Bin Laden they were successful. The conservative republican GOP lacerated this country and we bled and Mr Obama and the US people put it back together. It is quite easy to slice and dice, it is much more difficult to build.     I love the way lefties play momma vs. daddy when they argue. You see REAL conservatives do not care who started the program we don’t want the program at all. We didn’t vote for a Republican so HE could give out free shit. We held our noses while GW was spending money along with the Dem controlled congress which is why Obama was able to win in the first place. McCain was a lot like GW and we weren’t excited about it. Fast forward nearly four years and we are seeing how much worse the lefties are and we now need to wake the hell up and get him out for someone who has a real concept of money and fiscal responsibility. Don’t you worry we’ll be holding Romney’s as well as those Republicans’ in congress feet to the fire. Progressivism isn’t just A democrat disease. It seems many of the Repubs have been suffering from it as well.

    If the USF is being paid for by the telecom companies then why do I get a USF charge on my bill every month? That’s called indirect taxation my friend. You are the one who isn’t thinking but lets not allow the truth to get in the way of your rhetoric.
