What’s Another Harmless Lie Between Friends?

Little Miss Attila points to Real Clear Politics where, under the skilled hand of Robert Gibbs, Operation Assclown staggers forward, at a medium pace*.

But, in a rare moment of musical oversight, LMA’s “What Are a Few Broken Promises. . . between friends?”, sadly, misses the correct musical linkage:

Helmet: “Just Exactly What You Wanted”
I’m not so good realizing
Who I can or cannot trust
It’s best to keep what matters vague
With harmless lies I can adjust

I get a D for disappointment
Now there’s nothing to regret
Everybody’s good for something
At least you know what you won’t get

I let you down again
What’s another harmless
Lie between friends?
Now you can be disappointed
I thought I gave you just exactly
What you wanted

If you don’t mind tunes of the rather crunchy variety, here it is on YouTube:

*Adam Sandler is just a bit too vulgar for a link, sorry.

Personally, I’ve always been a big fan of the Billy Joel song _Honesty_:

Honesty is such a lonely word.
    Everyone is so untrue.
    Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you.

    I can always find someone
    to say they sympathize.
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve.
But I don’t want some pretty face
    to tell me pretty lies.
All I want is someone to believe.

I was so sure you were going to go with Johnny Rotten’s Public Image Limited. Disappointed works so well here.

Wow, that rocked. I believe the only thing by Helmet I’d heard before was “Just Another Victim.” I want more.
