#TrayvonGate: How the U.S. Justice Department Abetted a Legal Lynching

While I haven’t followed the George Zimmerman trial closely, I have noticed the widespread reaction to the trial, namely, “Why are they even having this trial?” There is no way in hell Zimmerman will be convicted. Some see it as a clear-cut case of self-defense, but everyone who has watched the testimony sees enough “reasonable doubt” in the prosecution’s case that it seems obvious the jury will acquit.

So, once again: Why are they even having this trial? And the answer would seem to be, because the Obama administration wanted it.

Lee Stranahan writes at Breibart.com:

Welcome to Trayvongate, where the President of the United States used both the bully pulpit, the Department of Justice and sly media manipulation to gin up charges of racism in the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin shooting. Now that the trial is almost finished and the only act of racism mentioned so far came from the victim–Martin called Zimmerman ‘a creepy ass cracker’ according to testimony–the cynical and repeated use of the race card by the White house is even more abhorrent.
Judicial Watch revealed documents today that proved what Breitbart News reported in April, 2012: that Eric Holder’s Department of Justice took an active role in racially charged rallies in Sanford, Florida and that the Community Relations Service helped force the temporary resignation of Sheriff Bill Lee. That resignation made it appear that Sanford authorities were suspect and possibly complicit in covering up something. . . .

Read the whole thing.  Welcome to the New Normal. And if there are riots when the acquittal is announced, you’ll know who to blame.

  1. Zimmerman was an overzealous idiot, but he shouldn’t spend the next 20 years in prison.

I think the DA overreached due to the misinformation at the beginning of this story.

Zimmerman should get some type of penalty for being reckless….but that isn’t the charge.

  2. The sentence would be virtually the same. In Florida there are mandatory minimums which escalate 10-20-Life, for using a gun in a felony, discharging a gun in a felony, and a gun death in a felony. So whether he were convicted of second-degree murder, manslaughter (the lesser included offense), or even aggravated assault (not a LIO, but one being suggested by some as a “compromise”), he would still be looking at 30 years.

Of course “being reckless” in and of itself isn’t a crime, but nothing Zimmerman did can be characterized that way going by the evidence. He was in common area of the community in which he lived, where he had every right to be, acting as part of the Neighborhood Watch known to the local police.

  3. I’m not “White Hispanic” except by “family lore,” but I need a new TV, so if there is a demonstration near a Best Buy or something, I’m down widdit.

  4. The evidence certainly points to Zimmerman being a reckless idiot.

However, that isn’t necessarily the point.

The media made more of this than it was. Of course, the police department fouled up by not doing a thorough job at the beginning which would have cleared the air and none of this zaniness would have ever happened.

Zimmerman was a reckless guy with a gun, and Martin was a dumb kid with skittles.

    That is all.

  5. You use that word, reckless, but have no clue what it means.

And exactly what did the police miss in their initial investigation? What specific facts have subsequently come to light?

  6. You know who was “reckless”? The dumb thug who jumped a guy in a state that allows concealed carry.
