As politics, the Anthony Weiner scandal seems like a silly distraction. As a glimpse into sexual culture in the 21st century, however, it’s fascinating — and by “fascinating,” of course, I mean absolutely horrifying.

Every decent and normal person reading the messages between 22-year-old Sydney Leathers and Anthony Weiner is revolted to think that a young woman would feel compelled to degrade herself in this manner, merely to attract and maintain the “romantic” interest of a married (and, by then, completely disgraced) 47-year-old politician.

Who does these things? Where do people develop such appetites, such expectations, such habits? Why would an attractive young girl engage in this kind of “sexting” with a creepy old pervert?

Just to look at Sydney Leathers — and Evil Blogger Lady has a selection of photos, if you’d care to inspect the merchandise, as it were — most people would presume that this shapely brunette with a brilliant smile would have no shortage of handsome young suitors.

Alas, most young men today are cretinous slobs or neurasthenic wimps, lacking either masculine vigor or chivalrous impulses or both. Even if the most gallant, virile specimen of old-fashioned manhood could be reincarnated, however, one suspects there would be a mutual disinterest between him and the Sydney Leathers type of girl.

Lacking any sense of decorum, propriety or personal dignity — indeed, accustomed by early habit to the most disgraceful behaviors and coarse modes of expression — the Sydney Leathers type of girl would be bored to death by a steady, decent and responsible man. And of course, such a man would never desire her companionship.

Utterly corrupted, Sydney Leathers had a very accurate (that is to say, quite low) estimation of her self-worth: No good man could possibly want her, so she sought out a notoriously bad man, and felt herself compelled to perform for this vile pervert:

The woman who told her story to Richie said, “I was 22 and in a bad place. … I really admired him. … I thought he was misunderstood. Until I got to know him. … I was young and dumb.”

Yes, “young and dumb” — a Democrat — “22 and in a bad place.”

Could someone ask Sydney why, at age 22, she was “in a bad place”?

That is to say, could this progressive activist provide a sort of itinerary of the behaviors that led her to that place? Because it seems that far too many young women are in the same place, and America’s parents might like to know how to keep their daughters from going there.

If many of America’s daughters are in that place, why? How did we get to the point where this kind of behavior — really, you should read the sordid details of the Weiner-Leathers “romance” — is not really that surprising? The intersection of culture and politics:

What we know of Weiner’s latest shame is that, in the wake of his 2011 scandal, the married Democrat began an online correspondence with an Indiana girl, identified by BuzzFeed as Sydney Leathers, who says she worked on President Obama’s re-election campaign. To give you an idea of Ms. Leather’s partisan and ideological commitments, after a maniac’s shooting rampage in Tucson, Arizona, she created an online petition that blamed this deadly crime on Sarah Palin, whom Ms. Leathers condemned for “inciting violence.” (In fact, the Tucson gunman was a schizophrenic inspired by a leftwing conspiracy “documentary.”) Only a liberal girl could admire a creep like Weiner. And in one of his creepy sex messages to Ms. Leathers, the 48-year-old Weiner employed a vulgar term for the female genitalia to ask whether she was “smooth” down there.

  1. Thanks to the institutional Left, our social DNA has been completely warped to the point where one’s humanity is conflated with whatever happens to give one a thrill at any given time. It has been a deliberate effort to dehumanize individuals and to remove any vestige of self-respect, individual responsibility, and rational thought from the body politic, to allow shmucks like Weiner to exercise power over the multitudes. I’d wager a lot of money that this young woman will continue to vote for people like him, her abasement notwithstanding.

  3. I think people who behave in this manner have experienced very weak parents, assuming both parents are even in the picture. Strong fathers and strong mothers setting limits and being examples minimize, if not eliminate the chances of these sorts of behaviors. As I read your piece and that at AS, I kept thinking, “Where was this girl’s father? How could he fail to instill the basic concepts of self-respect and God-given self-worth in his child? Did he not point out some miscreant to her and say simply, “You’re better than that?” And the same goes for boys, as well.

I know a lot of people like to hammer “Doctor Drew” for various reasons, but he used to say one thing over and over that seems to ring true: the vast majority of women who end up in the p0rn industry or as “sex workers” were molested or raped by a family member–or more commonly these days, their mother’s boyfriend.

    Easy Divorce in the 1960’s and the growth in new-deal, leftist policies (especially welfare) led to a massive growth in single mother households.

    The degeneracy attending people whose entire lives revolve around public assistance leads to heavy alcohol and drug abuse. The statistics on this are full of shock-yawn! — surprisingly unshocking, while being shockingly high. As we all know, alcohol and drug use is the best possible way to overcome natural barriers to immoral or indecent acts. This was known clear back in Old Testament days, (which is illustrated in that the bit in Genesis about Lot and his daughters).

    Given all of the above, what is more and more surprising these days is finding young girls who have not been subjugated to this overwhelming societal problem of childhood.

    …And the NEA is complicit. Instead of instilling a sense of self control and propriety in young girls, they have taken the opposite approach and try to treat the incredible promiscuity that has evolved in this population–a population with a high percentage of molestation and rape victims–as a sign of virtue itself. All of which leads young mothers to think of it as natural for their boyfriends to want to “spend time” with their daughters.

    Parenting and marriage. Such a simple concept. Remove it, and all hell literally breaks loose.

  8. Something else: Corruption is contagious. Imagine a middle school with 200 seventh-graders, half of them girls, half of them boys. Suppose that 15 of those girls are victims of sexual abuse and are (as often happens in such cases) precociously promiscuous. How many of the 100 seventh-grade boys will have sex with the 15 abused girls? And what will be the general influence of the promiscuous girls (and their boy partners) on the other, non-abused girls?

    Peer pressure of this sort, and the way in which sexual experience fosters sexual habits, can be very difficult for kids to resist, especially when popular culture is so saturated with sexual messages.

  10. I wasn’t joking about the sandwich. There is too much narcissism and focus on fulfilling ones own needs. Think about your spouse, your partner, your kids and DO small things for them that show them you care and that you love them. It does miracles for putting one in a good frame of mind and on the right track.

The incredible promiscuity was created the moment the Left began spouting that teen sex was “normal.” Then, having created the problem, the Left then proposed the solution which was making it easier to be promiscuous. And so, we wind up where we are with young people sending naked selfies to all hell and creation.

  12. Isn’t it interesting that, in the name of “equality,” schools have done away with teaching home economics to girls, even while insisting on the urgency of providing comprehensive sex education. So it would be sexist to teach girls how to make a sandwich, but it’s considered empowering to teach them to put a condom on a banana.

    Feminism makes perfect sense, if you’re as stupid as the average Democrat.

  19. I teach middle school. There is no innocence there anymore. 11 year olds are having sex with each other, getting pregnant, having abortions…all because society has glamorized (purposely or/and Inadvertently) such behavior. The 1960’s told women, and rightfully so, that we could be much more than Stepford Wives, or someone’s assistant. However, the message was quite clear as what kinds of sexual behaviors we should engage in to “prove” that we had “come a long way, baby.” The need for free love meant marriage was “squaresville baby” and so was the idea that a baby was God’s way of saying, “relax, settle down, make a life worth living.” That baby was opTIONal! Or, so said the court in Roe v. Wade. And, because marriage was passe, babies were optional, men were empowered to “go for the gusto” without any repercussions. (Especially since the use of antibiotics took the sting out of syphilis, and gonorrhea–and herpes?? Well, as long as you didn’t have an active outbreak, why tell anyone??? Your partner would find out soon enough. Aids/HIV. Had folks fooled into thinking it was a gay disease…but what about those who swung both ways? Condoms were our savior…safe sex, ok—but still sex as usual.

    Only one problem with all of that. It leads to a lust for more. And, more often means “beyond the pale” like molesting a 15 year old and exploiting them…to be models for other impressionables. Makeup on babies in beauty contests, and teach them how to “shake that butt.” Culturally, women have always been driven to perform–as mother, wife, daughter–we merely shifted the audience. The dirty little secret is that its not men who have done this to us. Liberal leftists, disguised as “Mama Rose” have pushed us out to degrade ourselves for their agenda. All the while telling us how much more “sophisticated” we have become…and it’s killing us.
